I don't know how authentic the ramen is but I think it's way over priced for ramen noodles and the service is aweful! I was barely aknowledged when I entered and I felt like was ...

Gross 4/14/2010

We decided to try this place after it was featured in 5280 Mag and it is NOT GOOD. It is VERY VERY dirty. So dirty that after a few bites of my food I got too grossed out to even finish. I ordered the chicken noodle bowl and my friend's comment was ""how do they even get chicken to look like that?"". It is WAY overpriced too. It is just gross, the food is gross, the establishment is gross, just GROSS. We ended up leaving after about 3 bites and going somewhere else for dinner. Cons: Everything more

Tasty but lacks. 2/1/2010

I don't know how authentic the ramen is but I think it's way over priced for ramen noodles and the service is aweful! I was barely aknowledged when I entered and I felt like was intruding. The food was tasty but I won't go back. more

two stars b/c you feign authenticity 1/10/2009

Let me start off by saying the food is actually okay at Oshima. Not great, but good enough that I have gone back more than once. Also, the very existence of a ramen joint in the denver area is meaningful and worthwhile (even if it slightly misses the mark). Pros: it's a ramen noodle shop in Denver! Cons: the ramen isn't very ramen-like more

Decent for Denver 1/8/2009

Very homey cafe, and good noodles at a good price. Most of the Japanese people in town, including my wife, aren't fans. But of course, they're used to ramen restaurants in Japan. For Denver, it's pretty much the only ramen you're going to get, except for the 17-cent packages at Safeway. Pros: Good food, good price, nice homey atmosphere Cons: Not good ramen compared to Japan, but hey, this is Denver more

What a joke!! 1/6/2009

I guess the owner/manager couldn't succeed in Japan so he came here to open lousy ramen restaurant that caters to clueless gringos? I'm here to tell you that ramen shouldn't taste that bad as Oshimas!! If you have a chance can you go to Japan someday. If that's out of your budget, then just go to Downtown LA ( Japan Town) or any of ramen joints in So. Cal. You will know the difference immediately. If you still disagree, do you see any Japanese customers go to Oshima ramen?? Pros: None. Your own cooked ramen tastes better than Oshimas! Cons: Too many things to list. more

Best Japanese food in America 1/4/2009

This place is perfect. The only reason anyone should go here is to taste the food. The noodles are like nothing I have ever tasted. So full of flavor, and stretchy, which makes them perfect for wrapping up the broth. I eat here at least once a week and it is one of my favorite places to eat in Denver. Pros: Best Japanese Resturant in the USA Cons: Should be located Downtown or next to DU more

Best Ramen in US 11/1/2008

I used to live in Japan for a while so I was really excited to find this place. I have been going there for the last few years and the food has always been great. more

Great Ramen 10/14/2008

What is up with all the ""dirty restaurant!"" reviews? I haven't been to Oshima in a couple of years, since moving to Boulder, but I remember it as a terrific place to get a bowl of ramen and I really miss going there. I think some of these people must've been expecting a fancy restaurant or something. Look, Oshima is a little hole-in-the-wall noodle bar. But it has tasty, authentic ramen, and is clean enough. Highly recommended, and don't worry about these ""dirty"" reviews. Just don't expect anything fancy. more

Needs a thourough scubbing! 10/10/2008

I was embarrassed by the filth...everything is coated with a layer of grease/grime. more

Terrible 8/25/2008

Dirty, dirty, dirty! I hate to think of what our food was prepared on! One worker (sitting at a table in the front of the restaurant) was prepping the gyoza with her bare hands while eating. I have been to restaurants all over the world and this is the most unsanitary by far. Can someone get this place inspected? Pros: Fast service Cons: filth everywhere! more

Disgusting - do not eat here! 8/25/2008

My girlfriend and I took a chance and tried this place yesterday - it is FILTHY and I don't know how it passes health inspections. The tables, counters, condiment jars, pretty much everything were sticky. The register area was disgustingly grimy. Unfortunately, my girlfriend lost her lunch within 30 minutes of eating. The other reviewers that describe how dirty this place is are 100% accurate. I don't care if some think it's cleaner than places in Japan; we're not in Japan and we have health standards for a reason - to avoid experiences like my girlfriend's! I actually emailed the department of health to look into this place, something I have never done before. Also, the gyoza was the absolute worst I have ever eaten. I do NOT recommend anyone eating here. There are other Asian restaurants nearby that are MUCH better and cleaner. Pros: fast service Cons: disgustingly filthy more

Oshima Ramen - Good Food 7/22/2008

If you want authentic japanese ramen go to Oshima Ramen. I found the food to pretty good aand at a very good price. Yes it is a little dirty, but if you were a world traveler you would have seen dirty places then Oshima Ramen. Some people are way over the top. Pros: Good Food more

Authentic, but still lacking 7/20/2008

As someone who has lived in Japan, I can attest that this is authentic tasting ramen. But that said, the ramen they serve here is more like what you?d get in an a low-key noodle shop in an industrial part of town versus the higher quality you?d get downtown (I almost fainted the first time I had kurobuta or ?black pig? ramen in a popular shop in central Osaka?it?s one of the best things I?ve ever eaten in my life). I agree with the other reviewers that the place is pretty dirty, but no dirtier than some places I?ve eaten in in Japan...I didn?t get sick from my meal of original miso ramen and gyoza. The noodles were cooked perfectly, but the broth and the pork lacked flavor. The ?big? Kirin (beer) are a plus, however. This place needs to turn on some (or get some) AC! Pros: Authentic ramen Cons: Lacking strong flavors, dirty, needs AC more

Way Overrated 4/3/2008

After hearing rave reviews of this place, I was really disappointed. I'm not a snob about restaurant atmosphere, but it is incredibly, distractingly dirty. And the food was not good enough to make up for it. The ramen was just ok, and nothing about it tastes fresh - in fact the meat added in was gross processed mush. And the gyoza is awful - the menu says you get 5 but you really end up with a mushed flattened mass with no flavor. more

Disgustingly dirty restaurant 3/25/2008

I could not agree with the previous two reviews more. As a world traveler and adventurous eater, I have been wanting to eat at this restaurant for months... As soon as I walked in, I was put off by the grime and dust everywhere. There was dust falling off the lights onto the tables. The glasses were filthy. The man making the soup was cleaning dirty dishes with the same bare hands that he used to make the soup. When we paid for our sub-par meals, the cash register and calculator were black from all of the grime. Again, the cook in charge took our money, touched the filthy register, and went straight back to working with food - with his BARE hands. I have eaten from street vendors in Mexico and Africa and found them to be 100 times more sanitary than this place. Other than that - the food wasn't even good! However, it could be that I felt so nauseous from looking around the restaurant that I couldn't bear the food. Pros: easy parking Cons: dirty restaurant, rude servers, bad food more

Food could be good, but restaurant is filthy!! 3/25/2008

My husband and I tried this restaurant after reading very good reviews in a local magazine. The first thing I noticed as we walked in the door was it was very small and extremely filthy. Despite how noticeably filthy it was, we still sat down and ordered because of the reviews it had received. There are two people running the place, which I assume is the owner and his daughter or granddaughter. We were handed two glasses of water, and I noticed right away that the glasses were dirty. I was starting to question whether or not to leave, but my husband wanted to be polite and stay. We both ordered and within less than 10 minutes we received our food. The food looked good and it tasted good (I guess), but honestly I couldn't get past how filthy the place was to really enjoy what I was eating. My husband and I both agreed that we will not go back nor will we recommend this place to anyone!! Pros: Food could be good, but too unclean Cons: Very filthy restaurant more

Tasty but... 3/8/2008

Undeniably the best ramen in the central US. However, please clean the restaurant. I was completely distracted from the tasty food by the grease and grime build-up all over. Also, gyouza is so much better when served fresh, not reheated in the microwave. Pros: Authentic ramen Cons: Condition of the restaurant more

incredible ramen! 11/22/2007

Ramen is not freeze dried and packaged in a bag. At least not real Ramen. Real Ramen is big long noodles fresh made, lots of vegetables, spices, and if your lucky a nice brown egg, whole. more

Go To Tokyo Without Flying 6/1/2005

After living in Japan for a year, I have searched all of Denver for the most authentic Japanese restaraunts. Oshima Ramen is like stepping into any urban ramen house in Okinawa or mainland Japan. The food is amazing, the smells, sounds, and environment is great! For those who read this review and go to Oshima Ramen you may be suprised by what I am saying. Just trust that the food will WOW you. Here is a tip. . .watch Lost in Translation and head to Oshima Ramen and you will have a great time! more

Ramen Delights 11/18/2004

Who would have thought fresh Ramen noodles would taste so good (and different from the instant dried kind!). One of my favorite lunch spots. The gyoza's are amazing, the best I've had anywhere actually. They are a little pricey for Ramen noodles but I've been back several times and it's always been consistantly good (and that's saying a lot). Give it a try, it's good stuff on a cold day. Pros: Delicious Food, Quick, Gyoza's are amazing Cons: , Ambience more
