The bartender is very talented. He made a coconut martini that was excellent. Chris our waiter was very attentive and friendly. He earned a big tip. The mussels were delicious. Recommend calling beforehand because the restaurant could be closed for private parties. The ambience was warm and chic. If you need a romantic date place - this is highly recommended. I had dinner at Cool Fish last night and will not be going back. While the meal itself was average, what led me to my decision was the attitude of the hostess. She was aloof and rude in insisting (or should I say DEMANDING) that we leave our jackets at the coat check. When I told her I prefer to take my jacket with me to the table in case I was cold, she replied ""management wants you to check it."" That, to begin with, made me vow never to come back. I am old-fashioned enough to believe that the customer's wishes should always be complied with. The next debacle came when she directed our party to a poorly placed table all the way near the restrooms (keep in mind that it was early (6:30), we had reservations, and the restaurant was completely empty). When we refused to sit there she grudgingly escorted us to another table that really wasn't much better. As far as the food goes, it was adequate, but once again, you received those tiny, ""artfully arranged"" entrees on huge plates. All in all, I would not recommend this place. Went to Cool Fish with the family for the first time tonight for my birthday. I had the Maryland Lump crab cake (one cake for $12) which was salty and not so much lump crab as it was shredded crab. For the main course, I had the Chilean Sea Bass with Lobster Fricassee and spinach ($28). The dish was artfully presented and tasty, but the portion was very small and I could barely find any bits of lobster in the dish. For dessert, I had the vanilla creme brulee, which was delicious. My mother's cinnamon pork chop was undercooked and had to be sent back--but was still undercooked, so she had it wrapped up to take home and cook herself since we were all done eating by the time she got it back. The waitress was not accomodating, helpful or polite and didn't even apologize. Customer service means a lot to me, so I will find somewhere else for my family of four to drop $250 on dinner (4 appetizers, 2 glasses of wine, 4 entrees and 1 dessert).
