Take out. Don't eat there. Take it home and eat in front of the tube with your own booze. The service is lacking, the ambiance is just okay.

who cares if the place isn't owned by japanese people?? 5/18/2011

I'll agree with what Chafood said below for the most part but the thing is.. Come on people, we live in UTAH. We can't expect super fresh A++++ quality fish all the time. This place has pretty decent quality fishes for being in Utah. Other hand I'll totally have to disagree with what Ericsky said. I mean seriously, does Japanese restaurant have to be owned by Japanese people? Who cares?? As long as the food is pretty decent with good service, that's all it matters. Probably not the smartest thing you can say about some places! Also don't expect sushi to be cheap because it isn't cheap instant food. Plus if you're going to call the place weird... How about you spell the word correctly first... geez One more thing.. reizoku was saying something about the togo menu and the gratuity. They stopped charging togo gratuity fees forever ago and those menus online(grabtakeout?) are very very old, super out dated. They got rid of those color picture togo menu at least 2-3 years ago.. If you want to have no trouble with the total, ASK how much it will cost after you order on the phone. I love this place and I will always go there no matter what. How do I know about this place so much? Well because I've been here since 2003. I don't work here and I never did. I even know the owners family very well and they're really really nice people. I hope people would stop giving negative reviews about this place because the owners aren't Japanese or anything dumb like that! I give this place 4 stars because I'll agree with some server service issues sometimes, but for the most parts, this place is fantastic. more

Usually Pretty Good 1/6/2011

I have been here several times. It is usually pretty good sushi. Every once in awhile the fish is not at fresh as I would like or a server isn't great. But for the most part I usually like to eat there. more

Average Taste w/ poor service 10/25/2010

I belive this is not a Japanese owned Japanese Restaurant. Atmosphere is totally wierd and Sushi taste below average w/ still highly priced.\r Poor service as well especilally if you order low price items.\r Unpleasant experience. Wouldn't be back. more

Hidden charges for take out 9/7/2010

I decided to try Osaka Sushi today for lunch. I found their information on this site, called them and asked if they had a menu available online. They said they did, and gave me the web address. I decided to try something from their lunch menu (oyako donburi) priced at $7.25. I called, and ordered with no problems. When I went to pick up my order, they told me the cost was over $11. I told them that their online menu said it was $7.25. The cashier said ""Oh, the prices have changed from the online menu."" I then looked the item up on their current takeout menu to find it priced at $7.99. I pointed this out to them and they reluctantly tried to figure out how to reprice. The cashier then said ""That will be $9.53."" I questioned the price again to which I was told that they add 10% for takeout orders. It doesn't say that anywhere on the takeout menu I had in my hands or anyplace else that I could see. At this point, I knew that, no matter how good the food might be, I wouldn't be back. more

Great Sushi - Secret Location 2/18/2010

My husband and I found Osaka by mistake one day and we decided to try it. Sushi is one of those items that can be really good or really bad and Osaka definitely delivered. I was surprised to find authentic sushi in Layton. The sushi chefs are all older Japanese gentlemen, and they do a fantastic job. Their prices are reasonable, and service is ok. If you want good sushi, I would recommend going there. Pros: Authentic sushi with experienced chefs - great food Cons: Small dining area, not intimate. more

great sushi 12/14/2009

The sushi is my favorite in Layton. They also have a great lunch special. Some have said the service was bad but when I've been there I haven't had a bad experience just not above and beyond. Pros: great food Cons: average service more

GREAT SERVICE AND AMAZING FOOD 2/23/2009

I have been to Osaka quite a bit and i still can't seem to find sushi quite as good as theirs. I love going in and having the smiling faces of the servers as i walk in they are just so happy to see me come in and do their very best to take good care of me. I am amazed at how good the food because of the fact that we don't live next to an ocean and yet they still seem to have fresh fish. Those of you who complain of getting sick from the food but yet no one else did then that should show you that it was not the food but you as a person was just getting something. I do however know that sometimes if you go to the same place over and over agian it will never be the same it will either be better or not as good but yet I still keep going back for more. Pros: service and food more

good food, one of the waitresses should be FIRED 2/19/2009

food is great, but the blonde waitress is rude!!!!!!!!!!! Went there for valentines day and she just threw everything on our table like she didnt care, not to mention she had an attitude even though we were very polite. Another waitress ended up taking over-she was alot nicer!!! more

Best Choice in Northern Utah 1/14/2009

This restaurant offers some of the best westernized sushi in all of northern Utah. As a huge sushi fan I have ate at several restaurants in Utah and honestly this one has some of the best tasting! The only thing this pleasant place lacks is private dining rooms. Their place is nicely decorated and the hours of operation are choice! Pros: Food! Decoration! Friendly waitresses! Cons: No private rooms- more

Can we not get good service anywhere these days? 12/24/2008

My husband and I went to Osaka for my birthday. This used to be one of our most favorite restaurants. We were excited to go back since it had been a while since we had eaten there. We sat down at the table and my husband said we would just be ordering rolls throughout the night meaning we would be there for a while. I don't know if this set the waitress off, but she had quite the attitude. We ordered miso soup and rice and the dynamite appetizer- which wasn't as good as I remembered it being. We had still not received our plates or ramekin dishes for soy sauce. My husband asked for the plates and the ramekin dish and the waitress, no lie said with a lot of attitude, ""Yeah I know what you're talking about... I work here."" We were stunned! We later asked if we had offended her somehow and she said no she was just joking. Ha! Not a very funny joke. From then on another waitress had to come take our order and help us the rest of the night. When the tall, blonde, and rude waitress came back she basically threw the roll down on the table and walked away. She also did the same thing with the check. All I can say is bad service makes the food taste not as good, and when you end up leaving with a bad taste in your mouth, chances are you're never going back. I think this restaurant needs to give their employees a little etiquette training. Pros: Pretty good food Cons: Service, price more

I Did Not Know That Was On The Menu! 9/29/2008

I have had bad sushi 3 other times in my life and trust me I know it when I see it. We have eaten at Osaka two other times and the food was always great. The first time the service was fast and friendly. The second time my fiancee who had ordered something cooked from the kitchen was nearly finished by the time my sushi was brought out 15 minutes later. I mentioned to the server I thought the restaurant needed a lesson in meal pacing and she apologized and was very nice but not even a free drink or anything was offered. I thought it was a little ridiculous. This last visit was on Friday September 26th. The food was great but I woke up the next morning and y head was spinning. The trouble is with how fast this kind of food is digested. By the time I was able to purge...less than 12 hours later all that came up was liquid. It made for a very concentrated case. It kept me down all Sunday and today I feel fine enough to hop on the lap top and try to save you fine people from the experience I endured. In the restaurants defense I did eat there with 2 other people and they were just fine. I got the lucky piece I guess. Beware! Pros: Good vulue Cons: sloow service and more than you bargained for more

Best Sushi around 9/3/2008

One of the top Shushi restaurants in Utah and surrounding states; in this geographic location we don't care if the chef is Korean, Japanese, or American, as long as the food is better than anything else we have access to. I've spent twice as much for half the quality at most places in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming. If these guys made their food so it tasted authentic Japanese, they would be out of business in a week. I'm going back again tomorrow. Pros: The food. Cons: Ambience is acceptable, location is acceptable. more

Loved it! 8/21/2008

I'm so glad my husband and I ignored the bad reviews for this place. We have been here twice so far and have had an awesome experience both times. We have tried several of their rolls and all of them have been nothing less than delicious. I agree with the other reviewer about the nationality of the chefs... WHO CARES! If the food they make is good, why does it matter where they're from? This is a great little place with a great atmosphere and excellent food. We will definitely keep coming here! Pros: Great atmosphere and great food for a good price Cons: I wish they were open earlier on Sundays more

Delicious 7/19/2008

First of all this place is delicious, try the picoso. I have been to Japan numerous times and to quite nice restaurants too. (dont want to toot my own horn but I have been to restaurants and seen famous folk like Yoko Ono). This places food was really great. People have been complaining in their comments that koreans are the chefs, yes that is true but why does that matter. They are expert chefs and very friendly, why is it any different to have a korean chef as opposed to an american chef. And the New York guy is a jack@$$ he probably is a fry cook, he is just a stuck up tool. I would recommend this place to anybody and the price is amazing too. The service was excellent they noticed it was our first time in there and gave us a complementary appetizer free of charge. I thought that took a lot of character and I will always give them my business. All the bad comments are rediculous and written out of their @$$ Pros: Food, Service, and Price Cons: New Yorker's comment more
