Editorial review from Citysearch 3/21/2013

I visited Onion Creek Kennels this weekend, and I was extremely impressed. The entire kennel is spotlessly clean. The dogs have indoor kennels at night, but they are let out 5 times a day to run. There are several large, fenced-in, grassy areas for dogs to be outside.\r \r There is a strict procedure for letting dogs in and out of their runs for safety's sake.\r \r I was impressed with the Cat Room, equipped with aquariums for fish watching and kitty condos for climbing.\r \r In addition to the immaculate kennel, Onion Creek also offers pick-up and drop-off service in a delightful van, adorned with photos of kennel clients.\r \r Manager Jaime is calm, collected and efficient.\r \r I would send my dogs here without hesitation. more

Confused and Disappointed 3/19/2012

We've had our 3 year old lab/pit mix since he was a puppy. In that time, we have boarded him at 2 other facilities, all of which raved about his sweet behavior. Onion Creek Kennels, however, told us our dog bit one of their staffers and that due to his aggression and dominance, he could not come back. I was shocked, appalled, and worried when I heard this- at least until I asked them to tell me how it happened. Their story was fishy and forced. The woman's description of my dog changed moment to moment. One minute the woman would say my dog was a sweetheart, and the next minute she would said that he was dominant and aggressive. She alleged that the staffer had gone to a minor emergency clinic for her ""wounds""... but I received no fees and the woman spoke of it as if it were nothing. She was also very calm about the whole situation, and kept reiterating that my dog is ""very sweet, but too strong for our staffers"". What really upset me though was the last thing she said to me. ""I think he was just excited by the other dogs. He's very sweet and gentle, but they're just so strong and you can't trust them"". I've asked for a video of the incident and a better description of what happened, but received nothing. My worries are that they somehow mishandled my dog to cause him to act this way, or that they are greatly exaggerating the truth. more

Beware 8/11/2010

We have boarded our bulldog at Onion Creek several times over the 2 1/2 years that we have had her. At first there were minor things that we noticed that were not being done per our instructions, but since the kennel had come highly recommended and was a convenient location we let these things slide. We boarded her this past weekend for two nights and it will be the last time we use Onion Creek Kennels. This is the third time they have blatantly ignored our feeding instructions. We always send a daily snack because she doesn't eat her meals as well in the kennel and then when we go to pick her up they give us back her snacks, still wrapped, and never given to her. I don't even think they are reading the instructions. What if this had been medicine that she was supposed to receive? This was brought to the staff's attention the time before last, but apparantly that did not make a difference. This last time when she was dropped off I handed her bone to the staff member and said please give this to her now, but two days later they handed it right back to me when I picked her up. They obviously have little regard for the animals they care for since they do not read or adhere to instructions. For all I know they haven't been giving my dog her food either or taking her outside for walks more

Kind Warm Staff, My Dog Loves Onion Creek Kennels 12/28/2008

I was extremely nervous to leave my dog Buddy while going home for Christmas. The staff at Onion Creek Kennels were so comforting! The girls knew just how to calm my nerves. I left knowing that he would be loved and spoiled just as I do at home! After boarding him for six nights, I came home to a very happy puppy! He was excited to see me, but I think even a little sad to leave all of his friends. He lingered at the door with the girl who brought him up. I know he can't wait to go back. As a student, the cost of services were very affordable! They even have this frequent boarding card that they clip for each night you board at Buddy to any other kennel. He was so so happy, and I know they took care of him like he was their own. Pros: Very clean facility, friendly/knowledgeable staff more

Disrespectful and irresponsible kennel 12/16/2008

Since early 2007 our dog has stayed about 100 days at Onion Creek Kennels. In September 2008 we scheduled a Christmas 2008 stay for him and believed everything was set. Then in late November they told us the appointment was cancelled. When we probed further they said our dog had been agressive towards their employees and had nipped/bit on at least 3 prior stays. Never once had they informed us of this behavior during a previous stay. We found that to be very disrespectful and irresponsible on their part. And second, to cancel a long stay less then a month from a very busy holiday schedule exacerbated the situation. We were lucky to find another kennel!\r \r Because of their irresponsible and disrespectful behavior towards the safety of our dog, their employees, and our trust, we will never return to Onion Creek Kennel and we will never recommend it to anyone.\r \r You may want to consider your pets safety and security above the inexpensive costs to kennel here. Pros: Price Cons: disrespectful, irresponsible, dishonest more

Great combo boarding/grooming facility 6/10/2008

I recently had our Schnauzer spend a few days boarding at Onion Creek Kennels while we were gone on vacation. She is fairly coddled at home, and I'm sure somewhat needy, but when we picked her up she was very happy and well-adjusted. The staff must really have been able to make her feel at home and comfortable at the kennel. As well, she was groomed while being boarded, and she looked great when we picked her up! Per our request, her face was left longer but neatly groomed, but her feathers were trimmed shorter than standard as she loves to run out in the grass with the kids. She was also sporting a cool bandana, and we could tell she was very proud of her new haircut. We were very happy with our entire experience and will definitely be back in the future. Pros: Great customer service, seems to take great care of the pets, nice grooming job. Cons: None that I can think of more

Great grooming at reasonable prices 4/22/2008

We have used Onion Creek kennels for grooming since around 1998. First for our Cocker and now for our mixed breed. They have always done a first-rate job and have listened to how I want my dog groomed. They also have an excellent pick-up and delivery for those of us who are too busy to drop our pets off. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a caring and capable staff. Pros: Friendly staff (my dog is usually shy, but went right to the new groomer) Cons: Can't think of any more

Great Buda-area dog groomer 4/21/2008

We have been customers of Onion Creek Kennels off and on for years with various dogs. Our most recent dog, Gracie, gets a grooming several times a year. The staff is courteous and smiling and we've always been pleased with how our dog looks and act when we pick her up. Sometimes she is so happy to see us that she pees a little on the floor, but the staff cheerfully takes it in stride. It's great to have a competent, pleasant place in the neighborhood. more

Day at the Doggie Spa 4/15/2008

Jonah has been going to Onion Creek Kennels for grooming since 2004. And she loves it! I'm impressed by the personal attention she receives when she's there. The staff always greets her with a cookie...Jonah is always looking for a bribe! And the groomer always keeps me up to date on her skin. Since she was a puppy, Jonah has had a skin disorder that requires regular bathing and short haircuts. If I keep her on a regular schedule with the groomer, her skin stays clear. They bath her in a Doggie Jacuzzi, called the Hydrosurge I think. I am so thankful that I don't have to reach over the tub at home to bath her myself. And it gives Jonah a ""Day At The Spa"". I would refer anyone to them for grooming services. Oh, and their prices are fair too! Pros: Great Customer Service, Quality Care more

A place I know I can trust 4/9/2008

In early 2007, I needed someone I could trust to take care of Senora and Sam while I was in Germany for a couple of weeks for work. Onion Creek Kennels really came through. I spent some time talking to the staff and touring the facility before I chose them. I couldn't believe how clean the kennel looked and smelled.\r \r Their service was everything I could have asked for. Their quality care was evident when I came to pick up the kids from ?camp?. They greeted me with a big lick and wagging tails. The manager, Jaime, even e-mailed me pictures of my dogs playing in the doggie pool. \r \r Since that first stay we've become regulars. As glad as they are to see me when I pick them up, S&S are always just as excited when we drive up to Onion Creek, doing their ""happy dances"" on the way to the door. I like that, and the fact that my kids can board together in a large run and get a discount, and also the discounts for frequent boarders.\r \r I usually also get them bathed and groomed during longer stays, which has been a big relief to me because Senora can be a little difficult about getting beautified. Pros: Very clean, friendly staff, my dogs love it, rates are good Cons: None I can think of more

disappointed customer 1/30/2008

I have an almost three year old cocker spaniel that I had groomed in July in which she was severely nicked several times. In fact many of the nicks appear to be more like severe razor burns and look like open sores. Being an owner of a dog that has to be groomed several times a year, I have never felt so disappointed by her injuries. I know that this can happen (nicking) but not injuries like her. You think the groomer would have stopped the first time they realized there was a problem but continued on injuring my dog. Now I am sure my dog was probably not being cooperating, since that is how nicks or razor burns can occur (although she has never had a problem anywhere before), but shouldn't they have contacted me in letting me know she wasn't groom able that day? Or if they realized that they hurt her that maybe they could have at least told me about it? The lack of honesty is what upsets me. Most people consider their pets as their children and I have always felt that Onion Creek Kennel have provided that kind of care to my current dog and the previous family dog (a kennel customer), but this was horrendous. All I ask is honesty. I am left town the next day and what if I had not noticed her injuries and they got infected? I was going to see if she could be kenneled but now i am afraid to send her there, not knowing really what kind of care she gets when I am not there, so she will be staying with family. I really don't like to complain, especially with the great service and care in the passed, but she really was hurt, and now my soon to be husband doesn't even want his dog kenneled there for our two week honeymoon. To make this whole situation worst I called several times and emailed them three times with pictures attached of my dog's injuries. Do you think I ever received a phone call or email back? Nope. What does that tell you about service? All i wanted was an apology and an explanation. Pros: reasonably priced Cons: terrible customer service, and caring for animals more
