Amazing cakes! 1/11/2012

I just moved to Cary a few months ago and these cakes are TO DIE FOR! I needed a small cake for my 4-year old's party last month, and picked the razzberry one. All the kids loved it and it was a huge hit. Earlier in the year I had the margarita cake for a work party and it tasted like a dream. Great go-to for parties! more

Disappointed 9/15/2011

I have always heard good things about this bakery, but those folks must have been referring to cakes and pies and not pastries and other ""breakfast eats."" There wasn't much of a selection, and the cherry pastry I settled for (no apple?) was big on the pastry (which was great and not too sugary!) but not so much on the ""barely there"" fruit. Next time, I'll just wait for Fresh Market to open -- much better/broader selection and higher quality. more

Not worth it 7/22/2010

I custom-ordered a birthday cake from here and was quite disappointed with it. It looked nice and cost a lot, but was dry, bland, and worse than what I could have bought at a grocery store for half the cost. So I have never bought from them again. Sorry that a local small business can't compete with the chains. Costco has delicious moist cakes, BTW. Pros: Locally owned? Cons: Cake was dry and not worth it more

the BEST bakery in NC!!! 10/26/2009

YES!! it's even posted on their walls, they've been voted Best Bakery over 5 times!! I called Blue Moon this past week for a cake for my Dad unsure what I'd be getting into because they were reffered to me. I called because their website seemed out of date, however who has time to fix their website when they have SO much buisness! When I called I got to choose from so many flavors, the options were endless. I wasn't sure what to expect but believe me when I got to the bakery I was pleasently surprised! the college and high school students that work there are just the nicest people! (GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!) but the best part was my cake! My cake was GORGEOUS & well worth the cost! The strawberry mousse was heavenly and the butter cream (made with REAL butter!!!) was outstanding!! All my guests and even my picky Dad LOVED it!! I should have gotten a bigger cake! OH, I even had an AWESOME lunch in their cafe! Which was great because they had 2 vegetarian options. So, I highly recommend Blue Moon Bakery! Not only are their cakes absolutely delicious, but I spotted some huge yummy looking cookies and brownies!!! Pros: wonderful customer service & desserts!! Cons: NONE! more

Too expensive 9/2/2009

I used to patronize Blue Moon many years ago and was never disappointed. However, just today I visited and made a purchase and most likely will not be a return customer. The Ranger Cookies tasted like the only ingredients were the coconut, shortening and rolled oats. The lemon cake was very tasty, i must admit, but I have tasted many Southern homemade cakes that put Blue Moon's too shame. There was more to be desired in the lemon butterceam frosting.\r \r Sorry-too over-rated and over-priced. Pros: The cakes DO look delicious Cons: Too expensive for taste more

Love their eclaire 7/20/2009

My coworker only orders cake from Blue Moon for her kids' birthdays, so I decided to try. I absolutely love the display. Cakes look sooo beautiful. To sample as much as possible, I bought slices of cakes and a few other individual treats. All are very good, especially Lemonstar. I read all the 1-star reviews. Those folks must have had some unfortunate experiences or their reviews made the Bakery improve. My cakes definitely used butter for the butter cream. I just hope my luck with Blue Moon will keep on!!!! Pros: great cake Cons: price more

Their ""butter cream"" is made without butter? 6/3/2009

Although they advertise their ""butter cream"" they use Crisco, not butter. Their customer service is terrible and they have no artistic ability. Just buy something from the case or go to the Harris Teeter. Pros: Lots of flavor choices Cons: Use Crisco, not butter more

Amaturish 5/24/2009

First when I was checking out the bakeries around Cary, I was intrigued with positive reviews and fell prey to marketing gimmick ! Now with the real experience I 100% Concur with negative reviews. They name the cakes that they don't know how and what the originality of those cake recipes are. We ordered a Toasted Almond Cake. The contents mentioned something about Almond butter cream. And to our dismay what we had a blob of sugar cake, with regular icing with cherry flavor !!!.... Yakk ! I will never recommend anyone this bakery. Now I know why the call ""Once in a Blue Moon"". Certainly a disappointing experience ! Next time save money and head to Sams or any local grocery for the cake Cons: Lousy Customer support, Inexperienced, Fakery more

Beautiful cake for a beautiful birthday girl! 11/11/2008

At 8:45am yesterday morning, my new neighbor came over to invite my children to her daughter's first birthday party that evening. They are Indian Americans, and moved here only this summer for jobs at NCSU. Many of their new friends are professors, and none have small children. We were delighted to be included in such a special event! She asked me where to find a bakery that would sell her a cake on such short notice. As an avid home baker, we rarely get things from an actual bakery, and I had no idea what to tell her. Then I remembered having read reviews about Blue Moon when I was searching for a donut shop that makes apple fritters. So I told her, based on reading reviews, to try Blue Moon. At 5:30 pm we were at the party... and when they brought out the cake... there were many ooo's and ah's from the guests. Blue Moon had a raspberry themed cake ready, and personalized it with the birthday girl's name. Because of the raspberries in the creamy icing, the cake had a natural light pink color... very beautiful! Such a tall cake required very slim slices, and the 10"" cake was more than enough for the group. Often a pretty cake isn't much good to eat... not so with this one! The cakes were of a fine crumb, moist and soft. The raspberry fluffy filling was full of raspberry flavor, and the plain icing on the sides of the cake was tasty as well. Now, while I will still build our childrens' birthday cakes at home, I am very much looking forward to my own visit to Blue Moon to check out their other offerings! Oh and versus a grocery store cake... suffice to say that twice the price gets you 4 times the cake... both in quantity and quality! Pros: Great cake, great service! Cons: Depends on your budget, but with cakes so tall, you can probably afford a smaller diameter! more

I've found a new favorite bakery! 8/11/2008

Just used Once in a Blue Moon Bakery for the first time, for my sister's baby shower. Awesome customer service and awesome cake! Our guests not only praised it's appearance, but couldn't get enough of it! We got a 10"" round chocolate cake with four layers, with hazelnut cream filling, and this was the first time we've actually been left with no leftovers after a party! Way to go, Blue Moon! The 40 min. drive to Cary from our home east of Raleigh was well worth it! Pros: great customer service and great quality product! Cons: Wish they were closer to my house! LOL more

Great variety of cakes! 11/7/2007

Our office uses Blue Moon for our monthly birthday celebration. I am the ""cake lady"" at work and order a different kind each month. The After Dinner Mint cake is really good! You'll have to check out their website to read all of the descriptions. I really like icing, so overall, I think the cakes are great! The icing haters in our office insist that the cake part is too dry. I've never paid much attention since it blends well with the various kinds of icing they have. This is also the least expensive of many of the upscale and specialty bakeries in the area. Your dollar goes a long way as do your taste buds! Pros: variety of cakes, great flavors of icing, great price Cons: dry cake more

Unbelieveably Creative and Amazing Customer Service 5/1/2007

I was very impressed with Blue Moon's ability to recreate our daughter's desired birthday cake in the shape of a treasure chest for her pirate theme birthday. Some years later, when our younger daughter also wanted a pirate theme for her birthday, we went back to Blue Moon and they gave us an equally impressive creation. On the way home to North Raleigh, the cake began to fall apart in the car. When we called Bue Moon, they sent someone to our home to fix the damage. Amazing Customer Service!! Pros: Amazing Customer Service and creative creations! Cons: Far from our home in Raleigh! more

Shame on you, Blue Moon. 3/12/2007

After finding out that a dear friend was planning on baking her own wedding cake due to budget considerations, I insisted on getting one for her. I was thrilled to discover that Blue Moon Bakery in Cary sold wedding cakes. For many years, they have been an enduring favorite of mine- not only for their excellent products, but for there customer care. Imagine my surprise when I was told, hands down, that no one could meet with me on any Monday or Tuesday to discuss or order a wedding cake. Explaining that Mondays and Tuesdays were my only days off did not matter to them at all. I was saddened that having become a success, Blue Moon has lost all concern for their customers' needs. more

Best Birthday Cake 8/27/2006

A friend of mine bought me a Milky Way Cake from Blue Moon Bakery, and I nearly passed out from pure euphoria. Or maybe it was the sugar rush. Either way, it was scrumdillyumptious. They have an impressively long list of specialty cakes that will have visions of sugarplums dancing in your head. I think I'll make it a tradition to buy everyone I know a Blue Moon Birthday cake from now on - as long as I get a slice! Pros: Great Cakes! more

Great Wedding Cake 12/1/2005

We ordered our wedding cake from Once in a Blue Moon and we were very happy with it. The staff was friendly at the consultation where we tried every conbination of cakes possible and decided to get 3 different kinds of cake- one for each layer. The cake was beautiful and delicious. It tasted even better than in the sampling (and it was nice and moist) They even matched the colors on the cake to the color accents on my dress. They also make you a fresh cake for your one year anniversary... so we are looking forward to it next month! Pros: Delicious cakes, Friendly staff, Hassle free Cons: cant think of any more

Great Everything! 10/13/2005

Everything that we have tried from Blue Moon is great - bakery and food, but the bakery is unbelievable. The staff is wonderful. I always special order cakes for holidays, birthdays, etc and they always accomodate my request and even duplicate artwork on cakes. I have been told I must bring a cake with me when I fly to Florida to visit my mother. more

Beware of the Italian Rum Cake! 8/23/2005

If you are used to the kind they make up in New England and/or New York, you will be very disappointed. Theirs is more like a banana nut bread. It bears no resemblance to Italian Rum cake and they make no apologies for the disappointment caused by the confusion. That's the way they make it and that's that. Pros: Internet ordering., Lots of cake choices., Good parking. Cons: Customer isn't right. more
