you gotta be kidding! 10/6/2011

I've heard about this place for about 40 years and finally went. It was AWFUL! Everything was over-cooked. OK, maybe it was a big deal back in the 1960s when it was about the only exotic place around -- but I don't see how in the world this place is still open. It's like a time warp with the plastic leaves and flowers, little fountain trickling in the corner...... Never again more

Great Food, Cool Place 10/22/2010

One Word 6/15/2009

I have been eating here going on 30 years and even with all my travel, this place keeps drawing me back! No words describe the food, just go and enjoy! Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Staff more

Loved it for Forty years!!! 11/12/2008

I grew up in Rutherford County and have been going to the Omni Hut for forty years! I simply love it, the food is great. We love to get a huge group of friends and get the Tahitian Feast. The waitstaff is wonderful and the atmosphere is really fun. I have taken several out of town guests and non-Rutherford County natives and they always ask to go back. In reference to the person who lived in the South Pacific......it probably isnt authentic especially if you lived there, but it is truly a one of a kind place to eat and the food is outstanding. Pros: food, atmosphere, Hawaiian tea, Tahitian Feast!! more

ALOHA BABY...THIS IS THE PLACE !!!! 3/8/2008

Being a native Nashvillian growing up in the 60's , I very vividly remember my parents going to Omni Hut for their anniversary or with other couples and leaving us with my Grandmother for the night. I forgot about it for years....then I discovered it for myself and saw why. \r \r Since that first visit... from dining with friends or a date (it's sweetly dark atmosphere is very romantic) I just can't get enough of the place. While a a family dinner there recently, Mom and Dad recalled that its truly authentic decor that is nothing short of stellar , ' hadn't changed a bit.' Now how cool is that !!! \r \r From the Tahitian Treat to the Volcano (share dessert if you must , but just do it ) and don't forget their special rice in between , (you can get a baked potato anywhere)....it's all a super fun experience for the taste buds. Don't worry, there is no 'wrong choice' on the menu...have fun, order several entree's and everybody SHARE !!!! \r \r The friendly and attentive staff is decked out in traditional Tiki threads to add to your oh so fun evening at Omni Hut . Don't forget to BYOB...my suggestion is bring Myers rum, your fave vodke and Malibu coconut rum...order their Hawaiian Tea ( free refills, oh boy!) and mix your own tropical cocktail. \r \r When entertaining the boss and everyone from the office (they have party facilities for large parties) or impressing that hot date you've been working your nerve for 3 months to impress, or any occasion in between...Omni hut is the place. ...Oh yeah, don't forget how hip your gonna look, 'cause you found it first :)\r \r Definitely worth the drive from Nashville...TRUST ME.\r \r Had Gilligan and his pals had this place .... they'd never wanted off that Island !!! Pros: Super cool Tiki atmosphere...lots of parking...friendly service Cons: Closed Monday and Tuesday more

two words-Tahitian Feast 2/23/2006

I live about 35 miles away and would eat here every week if I could. We order the Tahitian Feast, which will easily feed two or three. This has a sampling of everything. You just have to experience this place. Appetizers are brought out in this little lazy Susan type thing with a flame in the middle, steamy hand towels for sticky hands, food is to die for...can't get enough. If you want something different, for instance, for a special occasion, this place is great. Buy some teriyaki sauce to take home with you!! Pros: atmosphere, food Cons: wait, no reservations more

Best reason to drive out to Smyrna. 1/13/2006

Everything is so good you'll go several times before you lock on to a favorite. For me it all starts with the dinner salad served in a chilled bowl with home made honey mustard dressing and the warm loaf of bread. Then either the jumbo fried shrimp or the teriaki ribs or both! All the chinese food is excellent to, chow mein, bamboo chicken HOT!, the soups are wonderful and the best homemade teriaki sauce you'll ever have. You can buy it at most Krogers too! Do what ever it takes to try this wonderful place. Pros: delicious food, nice people, fun decor Cons: the wait can be, long more

Omni Hut - Worst food I've ever eaten! 8/4/2005

I was looking forward to enjoying a polynesian meal when my husband and I headed for the Omni Hut. The decorations are reminiscent of the South Seas but the resemblence stops there. I lived for two years in Samoa - a close neighbor of Hawaii - and the food served at the Omni Hut is absolutely the farthest you can get from polynesian food! I was expecting taro root and seafood but was instead bombarded with the worst Chinese food I've ever had. If you like grocery store LaChoy entrees, don't get your hopes up because this food - while resembling LaChoy - was worse! From the tasteless and tough ""riblets"" to the crunchy Chinese noodles (yes, the kind you put in a green bean casserole) covering the chicken chow mein with a Campbell's soup base, nothing was edible! Save your $40 and eat at a real Chinese restaurant. Pros: Absolutely none Cons: Everything more

Cheap Take Out Chinese In Tacky Tiki Hut! 4/2/2005

While we were amused by the 70's Hawaiian Black Lit Scenery, this was absolutely the most disappointing dining experience I've encountered. We payed 42.50+ Tip for what amounted to a Pu Pu Platter from your local chinese delivery store, plus a small portion of straight from the La Choy Box Chicken Chow Mein. We would highly recommend that you stay home, order Chinese delivery and use the money that you'll save to buy a Don Ho Greatest Hits CD & a tiki torch. Pros: Fruit Tea, Private Cons: Overely Expensive, Poor Quality/Value more
