Best

I've been with Olson Energy for 5+yrs. When I bought my home, I called around. Their prices were middle of the road. They came out & explained their service, my contract at lengt...

Worst

Okay, Olson Energy gave me a "really?!" moment today. Just under a month ago they replaced a part in my furnace (wasn't a cheap part apparently) and also replaced the carbon monox...

not very helpful 7/21/2009

I contacted Olson, as they were listed as a Carrier agent, for advice on my Carrier HVAC/ heat pump system. Not only did they leave me waiting (no show on an appointment, pleading ignorance when I followed up), when I did reschedule, they were obviously not interested in my project. I will not recommend this service provider. more

Another side to the comments 5/6/2009

I've been with Olson Energy for 5+yrs. When I bought my home, I called around. Their prices were middle of the road. They came out & explained their service, my contract at length, how my furnace works and what I needed to do to keep it going. I have a 51yr old furnace and I have told them I will eventually replace it and they have keep it going till I could replace it. To address other comments: (1)When I had a concern with a service the owner addressed it and it's never happened again. (2)When I had problems with my furnace, they didn't charge me a DIME if it was in the service contract (3)The person on call returned urgent phone calls within 30min at 5am and (4) when my furnace DIED in February they came out and worked on it for 4 hours till 8pm so I could have heat that night. more

dirty sales tricks 12/9/2008

When I first moved into the house I was renting I called them because that's the last place my landlord had rented from. They wanted a 150 gallon minimum and I had to sign a contract. I called their competitor who gave me a better price, no minimum and no contract. When Olsen found out they called my landlord and threatened to sue, saying my landlord had signed a contract, which is total BS on several levels. We told them to go to h*ll and never heard from them again. more

Questionable practices and refused to honor service contract 2/1/2007

I ordered oil and service from Olson and they sold me on their $160 annual service contract with attractive discounts on oil. The contract specifies that they will give you various discounts on parts and service throughout the year (basically an warranty instrument), but the important thing that you get is an annual service where a technician comes out and “inspects, adjusts and completely services” your furnace. Their tactic, however, is to send you reminder postcards about the annual service during the hot summer months when you aren’t thinking about heating. They then go quiet until your contract expires/renews and then they keep your money without ever servicing your furnace. I called to schedule my annual service visit in January – still within my coverage period, and I was told that they had no schedule opening for three weeks… until I was beyond the fully paid contract period. They said I would have to pay for another service contract or they would not come out. I spoke to the service manager, Jim, and pointed out that the contract is black-and-white on the topic of being entitled to a service visit, but he refused to honor the terms of the contract ("We sent you a postcard in May") and then began ducking my calls. I recommend avoiding this company on the basis of how they choose to handle billing issues that are not in their favor. more

still waiting 6/1/2006

I've been researching an oil-to-gas furnace conversion. This is about a $4000+ job so I've called about 5 companies. Olson is one of the companies that came to give me an estimate (and of course I had to take time off from work to meet with the various furnace contractors) but they never followed up with a bid. They may be fine but the lack of followup is worrisome--I'll be using one of the companies that seemed to want my business instead... UPDATE: it's several weeks later and I never did get that bid from Olsen! But I got comprehensive and detailed bids from Ballard Natural Gas, Greenwood Heating, and Seattle Natural Gas. I did pick one of these, but the work won't be done until later in the summer, so this is only a report on the front end customer service--stay tuned! more
