We at there yesterday. This place is nice inside, overlooks the Intercoastal but when it comes to the basics it keeps struggling. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich which was dry, dull tasting and i only ate half. (I threw out the rest when I came home. My girlfriend had the chicken A La King which she said didn't quite taste right and then we spent the rest of the afternoon on the couch because she was sick from the food. i have eaten here several times over the years and sometimes on holidays and they ususually pass w/ "That was just OK" but they seem to be slipping. If it wasn't for the large birthday party behind the place would have been deserted. more

The service was terrible. our food took forever our check took forever and the place was almost empty! a friend of my mine was gluten free and the waitress couldnt have been more unaccommodating and the food wasn't even that great and completely over priced. Stay away from this place more

Six of us decided to have our meeting over dinner. 5 of us at the table have been customers at Calypso for several years. All hoping with every revisit that something had to give. Well last night it did. From the greeting at the door the same employee seemed to be talking to each group at tables through the evening. When stopping at our table she asked how everything was when we mentioned needing a sauce we saw she handled that too. Remembered our company from a previous visit and even handled the next table next to us when they complained about our blinds down blocked their hot sun. Dispute over. Then the food was just right. Not too much heavy sauce that makes you forget what you're eating. Not too much butter. Fresh nice and healthy. The server was constant motion though she was juggling several tables. Server may have been (jenn) not sure but close. She was always greeting us with a smile and made the evening relaxing. Then heading out he door we were actually asked how was everything, what did you have as an entree and please come see us again soon. (same person that interacted with us from the greeting through the evening. Long dark hair) And we will. Looks like the bad is gone and true friendly hospitality has breezed in. Visit was 7/7/12 more

Shame, Used to love going here, but they need to get their act together if they want to stay in business from the wait staff to the kitchen..too many other restaurants downtown with better food...and to a previous writer who came here because the wait was too long for Deck 84, their menu is not that great..especially for dinner.\r Bar menu for happy hour or lunch is a better deal at deck 84.....Hope Old Calypso gets their act together,\r too nice a place to allow it to close. more

My wife and daughter dined with a friend and was treated badly by the manager (Susan) when my daughter tried to send back an un satisfactory rendition of their crab cakes the wait staff was great but the manager insisted that my daughter was required to take the dish and eat it ,my daughter ended up not eating, the next day I went to the general manager (nick) who told me this treatment was not the usual practice and after 1 week he refunded the cost of the dish ,but the offending manager remains on staff, more

This place is not cheap, but the food and service are excellent. The crab cakes were moist and flavorful. The salmon special was perfectly prepared. The roast duck was crisp on the outside and moist inside. The sauted scallops in a scampi sauce left us craving for more for more bread to sop up the sauce! All in all, the service, the food and the atmosphere make this a place to enjoy special events. more

The food here is pretty good. Younger guys this is not the place to take your lovely girlfriend on a date. The one manager who goes by the name of Nick is disgusting. On top of making sexual references to bartenders and servers on the floor he is rude to patrons especially the men. If they could get rid of him since he always seems to be there this place would be a gem. Old Calypso if you are listening this guy is doing nothing but hurting you there. more

It's on the water. Yay. Ok... we got that out of the way, so let's focus on why you would come here. Good Service: check. Nice atmosphere: check. The menu: ok. Prices: a bit too high. Flavor of food is just ok. if you are going to charge 25+ per entree... it better be outstanding. It was troubling to see the restarurant nearly empty at 7:30p. Even more curious to be handed a 15% coupon for my next visit so I'd come back. trouble in paradise? maybe. So I give this restaurant a rare JoJo on the GoGo rating: Meh! more

We ate at Old Calypso as the wait at Deck 84 was too long. You get the same nice view of the intracoastal - but that's about as far as the comparison goes.\r The fish was bland, the steak hard - the veggies regular frozen fare without special flavor - even the salad was boring. The only decent fare were the frog legs...\r \r I will not go there again. Deck 84 would have been worth the wait... more
