Old Calypso has an airy open ambiance, with nice old fashioned florida decor. Rattan chairs with comfortable cushions, deep mahogany woods, even fancy tiled ceilings. Waitstaff very attentive one visit and slow the next. But the food is consistently good and the crowd is local. Restaurant is on the intercoastal so has nice views.
I got the crabcake ($15) which was excellent - came with choice of fruit, fries, a twice-baked potato, spinach greens, a lovely sauce, and sauteed and excellently seasoned snow peas. My friend got the three seafood salad plate and was pleased.
Menu options good for vegetarians, dieters, or meat and potatoes types. We came for lunch when entrees averaged about $12-$15. A menu is available on the website. New Orleans food is their claim to fame.
Be careful if you are in a hurry here. The place can get packed, especially on Fridays, with business people and senior citizens and a lunch could take one and a half hours with all the waiting to sit and then to get the check.
