My Rescue Dog Biggie 1/10/2017

I rescued a dog named biggie. He was 110 pound brindle blue nose pitbull. Totally abused and neglected before he came to me. So after I washed him and clean them up on the outside I took him Ocean Veterinary to have him checked out. Plus I suspected there was something wrong with one of his ears like an infection. Turns out the doctor found a serious ear infection. One of the worst ear infections I've ever seen in a dog. Not only was a doctor through and very informative. He was also polite and not scared of 110 pound Pitbull Terrier that was obviously in a lot of pain. Also told the doctor that I was recently unemployed because of the economy and he worked with me on the bill. My boy biggie is no longer with me. May he rest in peace. If you were still with me I wouldn't take him to any other veterinarian. more

I can tell that the doctor is serious with his job and wouldn't settle to just giving little advice. If I need a doctor for my pets in the future, I will definitely come back here. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/10/2013

Well, San Francisco pet owners... you are very lucky indeed! Ocean Avenue Veterinary Hospital will very soon have a new doctor from New York on staff. His name is Dr. Shikher Singla and he is the most professional, competent and confident vet I have ever known, and the kindest and most compassionate as well. I believe my 10-year-old cocker spaniel ""Mushroom"" is healthy and happy because of Dr. Singla's care and expertise. When ""Mushroom"" had to have a serious teeth cleaning recently, you can imagine how scared I was. He would have to be asleep for this procedure. I was terrified that he wouldn't make it through or that he would have a bad response to the anesthesia. I was also worried that he might pick up an infection as the hospital is not a brand new spanking clean environment. Dr. Singla made me a solemn promise that he would take complete responsibility for my dog's care; in addition, he promised to schedule the procedure early in the morning so that ""Mushroom"" wouldn't have to stay hours in recovery at the hospital. He promised me that he would be the person who administered the anesthesia and that he would be the only person to touch my dog until he was ready to be taken outside after the whole procedure was over. He was true to his word: ""Mush"" was finished in 45 minutes and woke up with no side effects at all. His teeth are beautiful! He is the kind of aging dog who intermittently develops various problems that require medical attention. In each and every instance, Dr. Singla has diagnosed and prescribed perfectly. He has done such wonderful work with my dog. He is so kind and loving that ""Mushroom"" and I consider him to be more than our doctor; he is our dear friend and we love him. So! Our loss in New York is your gain... make your appointment right now and you will never again have to go in search of the finest doctor for your pet. \r ""Mushroom"" and I guarantee it!\r \r more

high cost treatment 1/6/2010

I wish I had checked the reviews before taking my cat to Dr. McElroy. He recommended cleaning her teeth, which would have required anesthesia, risky in an older animal. I opted instead to teach her to let me brush her teeth. It took some time, but is much less risky. Pros: kind. friendly staff Cons: greedy doctor more

A Good Vacination Centre 12/10/2009

It's a great place to get check-ups, shots, and anything for your pets. The staff is great and well-trained.It's pretty easy to find parking and at a nice location. I have taken my oldest dog is a Tuffy little witch that doesn't like the vet and, even though she is only a 10 lb min-pin, had to be muzzled by all the previous vets.I recommend bringing your pets here. more

Vaccinated our dog 4/15/2009

Dr. McElroy had been our primary veterinarian until our dog developed cancer. Following a diagnosis by a veterinary oncologist, we had our dog successfully treated. She was undergoing chemotherapy and had good quality of life. When it came time for her annual check-up, we returned to Dr. McElroy, who insisted that she had her annual ""shots."" At that time we did not know that a dog undergoing chemotherapy should not be vaccinated because her immune system was compromised by the chemotherapy. As a ""professional,"" Dr. McElroy should have known this. Our dog died within weeks of being administered the shots by Dr. McElroy. We took her to the oncologist one last time, who could not understand the dog's state of deterioration, given her previous check-up, which she had passed with flying colors. The only explanation was the shots that Dr. McElroy had administered, and from which he profited by charging the fees for them. Dr. McElroy operates a very greedy office. Cons: Greed more

Great Vet! 8/29/2008

I have been taking my dogs here for the last 8 years and have to say that it has been the best of any I've gone to. My oldest dog is a snippy little witch that doesn't like the vet and, even though she is only a 10 lb min-pin, had to be muzzled by all the previous vets. This is the only place I have taken her where she was calm and seemed to like the vet. So I brought in my other dogs, and continue to go back. They offer great services and do have private consultation offices (the only time you're in an open space is if you go to the back for nail trims/shots from the techs). more

Not sure about this place 1/22/2007

I just read the good reviews here but have to say that I took my dog here a couple of years ago and would not go back. The place looked very dirty and I didn't like how you were not directed into a room for the consultation - but in a back area open to other people working - where there was no privacy. The vet seemed to be rushed and not very communicative. I just didn't feel comfortable that my dog would get the best care there. more

Pet-cetera 9/28/2006

The staff is great. I have been going to Ocean Vet for 10+ years to take my "kids" (2 dogs and a cat). They are very accomodating and friendly. I sometimes you their "day-care" for a day and my kids always come home happy (unlike some other places I've tried in the past). Their Vets are very thorough and explain everything in detail - they are really concerned about your pets. I would highly recommend them. more

Well-trained staff 6/28/2006

I've been coming here for years with my pets. The staff is well-trained. It's a great place to get check-ups, shots, and anything for your pets. The bills are reasonable. The staff is excellent. After work, it a quick place to bring my pets in and then get home. It's pretty easy to find parking and at a nice location. I recommend bringing your pets here. more
