Best

We have been to Oba 3 times now, and every Filet was savory and amazing. They change the preperation frequently so we had different styles each time which makes it easy to go bac...

Worst

Let's face it. When Oba opened, it was unique and that alone was worth the visit. It attacted the ""in crowd"" and was the center of where everyone wanted to be. But newness ru...

Well run joint 10/31/2002

Oba continues to be one of my favorites and at the top of my restaurant list. Wonderful well executed food and service in the dining room and still a very fun and hip bar to hang at! Now that they are totally non-smoking, I can eat dinner in the bar without a gas mask. I've had two occasions to eat in their private dining room - WOW. Well done Oba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: fun creative food, service, non-smoking bar Cons: can be loud in bar more

Oh, so Oba-rated ! 10/28/2002

Another overrated Pearl District restaurant. If you want to get a taste of Cuban fare, head over to Canita. True...you need to brave a scary area on Burnside, and the ambience is less polished than Oba...but if great Cuban food is what your after Canita is a better bet. Pros: Lush decor Cons: Overrated, Over-hyped more

STILL GREAT! 10/20/2002

I've been eating at Oba for the last several years, and I'm continually impressed by how it keeps getting better over time. The menu has kept some of their best items, like the crispy prawns, and I always have a hard time chosing what to eat for dinner because everything is so good! The last time I was there, I had a fantastic lemon-chipotle chicken. The bar is a fun place to have a great drink (but too busy for me on First Thursday). Pros: Great Food, Great Drinks, Non-Smoking Cons: Loud bar more

Food is......ehhhh. 10/14/2002

Oba has great service and great ambience. It's food, however, leaves something to be desired. While presented beautifully, the food is lacking in taste, especially for a Spanish themed restaurant. There is just nothing spectacular on the main menu. I've tried most of the fish dishes(quite bland) and the ribs(decent). The one thing that was out of this world was the baked alaska type dessert. I can't remember the excact name of the dish but it was awesome. I would recommend for drinks and dessert. Pros: Great Drinks, Good desserts Cons: Uninspired dishes more

Awesome! 10/12/2002

I have eaten all over the US and can say Oba is something Portland can be proud of! Very creative and varied dishes. Good wine list with everything from the high end to a handful of tasty South American reds in the twenty dollar range. Overall one of the best resteraunts in the whole NW. Simple yet elegent. Pros: food, value, ambience more

Fusion rules 10/4/2002

Cool, hip and happening. Decor just understated enough to allow patrons' luminance to override. Did I mention cool? more

i love it!! 8/24/2002

you will love your expierience with the oba! crew. it is a welcoming and easy place to be. i have always had a pleasent expierience while dinning here!!! Pros: what can i say bad? Cons: nothing bad to say more

what went wrong with the last ones! 8/15/2002

I don't know what the last couple of reviewers had, or didn't have, but our experiences at Oba! have been outstanding. Most importantly, my wife loves the food and atmosphere and can totally relax here. And with 4 kids at home, thats just what she needs. So, Oba! always starts our night out right, and we know what to do to finish it all off...!!! Pros: Makes her happy, Makes me happy more

Naysayers Know Nothing 8/14/2002

Despite overstretched servers - does this place not hire busboys? - and slovenly management, Oba remains one of the best nights out in town. Great food, great wine list, great bartenders. Reviewers failing to enjoy themselves here clearly lack imagination and spirit. Pros: cocktail list Cons: no smoking more

Owhy? 8/12/2002

This place is perfect if all you care about is who sees you. Food is interesting; but service is slow and snotty. Actually asked ""is this your first time here? (yes) God, where do you usually eat?"" And she wasn't kidding. more

Truely amazing! 8/8/2002

I guess they only except great reviews, or whitewash ones. The service was slow, the manager was not very concerned, and I would not recommend going there. Nice enough? Cons: parking more

lousy, expensive drink, icky people 8/4/2002

This place sucked. The bar was crowded, the people were loud and obnoxious, and my drink was overpriced and awful. I had a chocolate martini and it was barely drinkable (though for $7 I figured I had to at least make the effort). The waitstaff was rude, it was so loud I could hardly hear my date, and I can't think of a worse place to get a drink. Stay away, stay far away. Pros: none at all Cons: everything more

Great bar--ok restaurant 8/3/2002

Fun place for drinks!! Very hip and fun to hang out in the bar. Good drinks. Been twice. The restaurant: Good food, decent service. Interesting wine list, but not very memorable. Pros: lively atmosphere, hip crowd, good food/drinks Cons: loud, crowded more

Those are real limes! 8/1/2002

These Margaritas have real limes in them and you have a great selection of Tequilas to choose from. Dinner and quenching thirst at Oba is always a good event. more

Breathless! 7/26/2002

My boyfriend and I came away from Oba! amazed! The service was perfect... the food was awesome and the ambience was a great compliment! I recommend Oba! all the time to my friends! more

STILL GREAT AFTER 5 YEARS 7/26/2002

Oba just seems to continue to reinvent itself. The new lobster bruscetta is fabulous, along with the guava bbq ribs - my vote for best in town. Great scene, timely service and constantly evolving food. Even more exciting - it's now all non-smoking Pros: atmosphere, food, service Cons: loud bar, crazy on 1rst Thur. more

Oh my nosh! 7/24/2002

Ordering at Oba! is easy, just try something that you have never heard of before and be delighted. Pros: Service, Inventive Food, Good Bang for Buck Cons: Parking, Noisy more

Home run latin-style! 7/18/2002

Went to OBA for the first time and WOW!! Love the variety with the Tapas and Platos...so many great choices and tastes. Fun mixed drinks that really quenched my thirst from the ""heat"" of my delicious dinner. Service was great! Relaxed atmosphere. Definitely a place for the more refined palate and not necessarily for the ""Olive Garden"" crowd. Hats off to OBA! Pros: Friendly service more

Has not changed 7/11/2002

One of the things people always say in defense of Oba is, if you can't fit in deal with it and go elsewhere. I say maybe Oba doesn't fit in and needs to change. more

Always a favorite 6/30/2002

Oba always ranks up there as one of the restaurants that we take guests to. The ambience is great. Food is fantastic. And there is always a high energy feel in the place. Yes, it may be one of the few places in town that your hippie friend with dreads may feel a little out of place, but if you are looking for a change of pace this is the place. Pros: Great Food, Great Bar Cons: Parking, OK service more
