Best

We have been to Oba 3 times now, and every Filet was savory and amazing. They change the preperation frequently so we had different styles each time which makes it easy to go bac...

Worst

Let's face it. When Oba opened, it was unique and that alone was worth the visit. It attacted the ""in crowd"" and was the center of where everyone wanted to be. But newness ru...

Quality! 5/2/2003

Oba! has some of the best cocktails in the city because they've heard people don't want canned juices or mixes any more. Their drinks are creative and delicious. The quality is equally evident in the food. Try the ruby colored ""Seared Ahi Tuna""appetizer with the mango-cilantro salsa. If the variety of margaritas aren't your thing, try a Mojito or a Momo Verde. Pros: Drinks, Atmosphere, No Smoking! Cons: Parking, No Sundays more

One of my favorites 3/3/2003

I ate at Oba last weekend, and it again proved to me why it has been an interesting, innovative restaurant for the last several years. Food is delicious and service is consistant and generally friendly. Great cocktails too! I'll be back soon! Pros: Fun, interesting food, Great drinks Cons: parking, crowded bar more

Best Lemon Drop EVER 1/24/2003

Oba is my very favorite restaurant! They have wonderful food, the best of which is a salad called the Oba Caesar. They also have great drinks. A little on the spendy side but so very worth it. Pros: Bar, Food Cons: Parking more

Overrated, noisy 1/9/2003

Food Was beautiful but the service was mediocre and the servette was surly. Pros: food appearance, dessert Cons: noise, service, server more

Great Find! 1/3/2003

Food was great. Look was great. Desserts were great. All that was missing from our romantic night was a volume control. Found the place to be a little noisy, but I would definately go back again Pros: Great food, Reasonable price, Great Service Cons: Little Bit Noisy, Parking difficult more

Fun drinks- fun to go w/ girlfriends 1/2/2003

They have fun drinks, great place to go with the girlfriends. Leave the husbands at home. Good appetizers as well! Service was a little slow, lost our drink ticket. The appetizers are a bit expensive for what you get Pros: Good drinks, fun people watching Cons: slow service more

One of my favorites! 12/28/2002

I love oba's! I go there for cocktails and appetizers a lot. The bar food menu is about the same as it has been the last couple of years, but I don't mind when they have such great crispy coconut prawns and seared tuna. I've only eaten in the restaurant part a couple of times, but I had great food and great service. The atmosphere is really nice in the restaurant. Pros: great food, good service, nice atmosphere Cons: parking, sometimes crowded bar more

Good but slipping 12/22/2002

Oba's started out great but the food quality has been slipping. So good but not great food in a cool, fun atmosphere. You could do a lot worse. Pros: Funky look, Great staff Cons: Loud more

Meet market 12/12/2002

Great drinks, great place to watch interesting people, decent appetizers (tapas?). However, food from the main menu is not very good, consistently. Very good service, very noisy place. Pros: great bar, decent starters, service Cons: noisy, avg food, main menu, crowded more

bad bad service! 12/10/2002

I have been to Oba! before and have love the food, drinks, and even the service, but on the recent visit on 1st Thurs. that has all become a lost memory. I only had drinks and was seated at a table in the bar. My server virtually ingonred me. I had to go to the bar to get all of my drinks as she served every table around me. Is it my cloths, age, color(this is a spanish restaurant?) well she made a mistake. They still have good food i just hope you can still get good service. more

Whatever happened... 12/6/2002

Ok, a good place can't stay good forever. So Oba started going down perhaps about two years ago. Yes, it is still pleasant, offers an interesting yuppish zoo, drinks are good but expensive, food is better than ok although the menu has not changed much in five years. Service has never been particularly personable, at least at the bar, but the really troublesome feat is... did they really have to make one of the few cigar havens NON SMOKING? more

Look good, eat good. 12/6/2002

Oba is a nice place to eat with a group as I've been there a few times and have enjoyed the experience each time. more

stellar 12/4/2002

I am new to portland and have tried many fine dining resturants in the metro area. May I say that none of these so called fine diners have anything on oba. My date was so impressed. The atmosphere was so splendid and romantic, the mood was perfect. The servers were very kind, and engaged my every request without hesitation. The food was awsome my favorite the vaca frita, the presentation was so beautiful I was amazed. So over all my experience at oba was one I will never forget, I recommend oba to anyone deserving of a wonderful experience. Pros: food, presentation, execution time Cons: noise, parking more

Definitely an amazing experience! 11/21/2002

We had the best experience! Food was excellent, service was excellent! Great atmosphere. A little loud, but the lighting was still low enough that the experience was romantic... Pros: great food, good drinks, great service Cons: a tad expensive, parking more

What happened 11/18/2002

Its too bad when a good place kills itself. Unless you like overintoxicated want to be ???. I don't know what they want to be. But I don't want to be whatever it is. Honestly foods been consistently tasty and innovative for latin in portland. The prices of drinks have gone up and the service and personality of the staff and customers has gone down. If you eat dinner dine with Gene. Pros: Beautiful building Cons: Inconsistent, impersonal more

Mighty Tasty! 11/17/2002

The best I've had in Portland. Try the Baked Argentina. Yum! Pros: Baked Argentina more

My Favorite! 11/16/2002

This is my most favorite restaurant in downtown. The flavors are different and the atmosphere wonderful. Go! Pros: Food Creativity Cons: Expensive more

Pleasantly Surprised 11/15/2002

I went to Oba for a work dinner with a fairly negative attitude based on the reviews I had read here and my previous dining experience 4 years back. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the food. I had the rib eye steak, which had a good flavor and was very tender. The appetizers of coconut shrimp and the ceasar salad were outstanding. I would definitely go back at this point. Pros: Menu Choices Cons: Noisy, Parking more

Fantastic 11/13/2002

In order to vote, I have to write something....I am not much of one for words, so all I can say is that I highly recommend this restaurant. Sure it has the snobbish feel of the Pearl, but as long as you expect that, you'll do just fine. They didn't treat me any differently for wearing jeans and a t-shirt btw. more

Overrated! 11/13/2002

Pretty to look at, but the food's silly and pretentious. Oba's a fun place to hang out and have a few drinks but let's face it, they're just not that serious about the food. Pros: warm, pretty, active Cons: loud, mediocre food, overpriced more
