Oak Park Abbey

I love going to the Velvet Rope on Friday Nights for Karaoke with Creoke! The Dj is fantastic and everyone really gets into it. The food is fabulous as well, they just added some new things, like the Baked Lobster Macaroni. Its delicious and creamy with large chunks of lobster. Yummy. As for drinks, I highly reccomend the Pomegranate Martini or a Velvepolitan. Both are delectable. Prices are fair and the staff is friendly and enthusiastic. The atmosphere is just all around fun. Its definitly a great place to relax or party, regardless of the night. If you've never been, ask to go upstairs! They also reserve space for parties which is nice. Just wanted to tell everyone that the Abbey has closed. I personally was very disappointed since everytime I went there, I had wonderful service and I just absolutely loved the place. more

We were quite excited to try this place based on reviews plus it would make a nice end to a day doing cultural stuff in Oak Park (FLW). We were the only customers but this did not prevent the staff ignoring us completely. It makes you wonder sometimes whether these people are really interested in building a business. The wine list is quite good and reasonable value but not exceptional. The decor and space is attractive. It's clearly not a go-to place since no one else came in over an hour. Pity. Not sure why the previous person had a bad experience at the restaurant. I can not make that claim whenever we go we have a great time and the food is outstanding. The wine list has a lot of variety to chose from. We love the live Jazz on Saturday since it changes every weekend. We hope that previous reviewer don't deter people from this little gem in Oak Park. more

Sure they were short staffed, but that did not entirely explain the poor wait service. The worst part - when the bill came our party was surprised there wasn't a 2 for 1 special as was adverstised on MetroMix. When this was explained to the owner, we were simply told the special was no longer in effect (even though it was still being advertised!), and the owner did NOTHING for the inconvenience. I was excited to frequent a neighborhood wine bar (my husband and I had been here several times over the last few months), but I have to say we will never be back. It's sad to see what poor service patrons can get at a neighborhood venue, and as an Oak Park resident I was embarassed by this in front of my out of town guests. One more thing - the food isn't very good. It's mediocre at best, and my husband and I are done giving it another shot and holding on to hope it will improve.
