I went to the very glitsy NYKB showroom for remodelling of my very small coop bathroom. Next week a NYKB designer came to apartment, asked my preferences, photographed my bathroom and another bathroom I had renovated to understand my style. I communicated very specific preferences regarding style, tile color and type, a soaking tub, etc. He claimed he would produce three designs to choose from and charged $2500. He called me back to showroom but had nothing to show at all - no designs, no suggestions, nothing! He could not remember my preferences or my bathroom, did not have the photo's, and told me I could go to an associated hardware store to pick components for the bathroom. He asked me to sign a standard contract for labor only to install tiles, comode, sink, etc for $19,875. plus $3850. for plumbing and $2685 for electric for my tiny bathroom. I would need to find the appropriate tiles, fixtures, etc and pay for them. I left the showroom in aneffort to cut my losses and 30 minutes later received a telephone message stating that they now had designs for me to see and that the prices could be discussed. My loss: $2500. for the non-existent designs. I suggest that prospective clients question the excellent reviews they read about NYKB. They should approach NYKB with extreme caution and pay them nothing until they produce specific designs and the price quote and speak with real references.
