I have to say Novo makes great drinks in general but there mojitos and margs are amazing and the variety is pretty dam good. You can ask the bartender or the waiters and any flavor you ask for they will get it done ! Food is very tasty specially there grilled Skirt steak more

Horrible night crowd 5/18/2009

I've been to novos during day hours when is a restaurant but it wasn't till last friday that I stopped by at night with a couple of friends that I realized that this restaurant is a complete diferent place at night. The crowd is very young and rowdy.there is absolutly no dresscode, there is no security.. During the night someone fell down the stairs and the owners didn't even seem to care. Then later there was the biggest fight I've ever seen. And when the cops showed up the crowd started fighting the cops as well. Horrible experience. I will never go there again, at least not at night. more

A Culinary Gem for Jackson Heights 5/8/2009

I have patronized this establishment for several years now but of late I have noticed the cuisine here has been taken to another level. Take, for example, my dinner the other night: to start, shrimp tostaditos beautifully aligned on an elegant platter, so simple yet packed with flavor (there's more to the avocado than meets the eye here), a simple homemade corn tamale drizzled with what the server explained was in-house herb-infused honey. Delicious, I would come back for that alone and order it with a nice glass of their verdejo. As my main I opted for the seafood moqueca, another unique treat, unlike any i'd had before, with a velvety broth sprinkled with peanuts for depth of flavor, and seafood both sauteed and seemingly chargrilled for an unexpected and delightful range of textures. I will even be bringing my picky mother-in-law (she's from the City) here because I know she will love it. Pros: outstanding food more

Corona crew 3/11/2009

Horrible place. Full of local thugs and chicken heads from corona and jackson heights. There is no dress code t-shirts hats and timbs required to fit in. The only way i'll go back is with my latin king ms-13 freinds. I'll feel safer. Pros: Chicken heads Cons: Chicken heads more

I loved it!!! 10/27/2008

\r the drinks were amazing, all cocktails were made with fresh berries, none of those sugary flavor syrups. The food was awesome too- especially the paella, which contained some of the most flavorful rice I have ever tried! Service was great - owner was very attentive and pleasant.\r \r Pros: great food & service more

Gross!!! 10/17/2008

Last Friday I went to Novo with my friend, we sat at the bar having an o.k. time drinking our apple martinis when so guy who I later find out was the owner came up to me and started talking to me. He first started to embarrass the bartender by telling him my drink wasn?t made correctly but I actually asked for club soda and my drink was fine. The owner was rude to say the least . I will not go back there anytime soon. Pros: the drinks Cons: Creepy guys. more

Aviod this place at all costs!! 8/14/2008

Ok, so me and my girls went to Novo last Thursday...big mistake. The staff was nice and my mojito was fine as well but some guy with a somewhat raspy voice seemingly the manager could not help but scream, loudly at the employees. I was so turned off. My goat chese salad took about or over 30 min. as well, howeve, the just manager stood over my table giving the employees dirty looks, pacing back and forth and again could not compose himself from yelling in spanish. The employees although helpful, seemed over-worked and generally upset by the manager. The manager did go up to one table to say hello or something so I?m guessing just from reading previous reviews that only if you know him will you be treated well however, I will never not go back, not even for a mojito. Pros: good mojitos Cons: the manager more

Jazz and food - It's a start but could be great!! 5/25/2008

\r Great Jazz...Mondays. Wednesday & Fridays.\r \r If you are going to compare NYC's and Puerto Rico's top places you will be somewhat disappointed.\r \r Stick to the steak and if the ceviche is fresh you will be in for a treat. Empanadas are average (again P. Rico comes to mind) Their wine list is extremely limited and stay away from an overpriced appetizer called tostadas (rip-off) They used to have a really nice entre called chori-pollo and I couldn't find it in the luch menu last time I went (duh). I couldn't get coffe during lunch time (the coffe maker was down...WHAT???\r \r Still a nice place but the owner seems to have many issues, The food is not bad overall but the ambiance is nice and the jazz if great. I think with the right partner it could improove.\r Friday is the worst time to go there. The services is poor and the employees are totally disoriented and untrained. Pros: A pioneer in the neightborhood Cons: Inconsistant more

Outstanding service and food 4/29/2008

I just read the review from someone who claimed to go Friday night and I was shocked. I was there for my first time on Friday with 6 other people and my experience was nothing short of excellent. The food was outstanding from appetizers to desert and the thing that stood out the most for me was how hard the owner/manager was working to see to it that we had everything we needed. Perhaps this other reviewer was at a different restaurant because the Novo I went to was a place I am more than happy to recommend. In fact I am going back this Friday with 6 other friends with whom I dine with on a monthly basis, specifically because of the food and service. We like to try different restaurants every month and this month I insisted we go to Novo based on the experience I had. I have been to a lot of restaurants in my time and I have to give this place 4 stars on atmosphere, food quality and service. The owner even sent over some tequila shots on the house to show his appreciation for our patronage. Who does that? Definately a keeper on our list of places to eat drink and be merry. Pros: Close to subway, great food, excellent service Cons: Lack of parking is the only issue more

Unpleasant Experience 4/27/2008

This review is based on several visits. The last was the worst.\r The manager is bad. His aloofness to customers and conditions is notorious. If he knows you ? he will take care of you, otherwise he will treat you as a wall. He doesn?t greet you, never comes to your table to ask how things are. He does nothing but chats with his buddies at their table or outside. \r We came for dinner on Friday evening and were ?greeted? by a grumpy overworked waitress. Meanwhile the manager was chatting with a group of middle-aged men at their table. Manager was standing between their table and bar stools blocking the way. Despite of excusemes manager did not bother to move an inch and we had to force our way in. \r He was the worst dressed employee wearing a washed out light blue t-short looking like he just got out of bed. This signifies that he has no desire to represent this place or make it any good. Or, may be, the place is how he is dressed and how he treats the customers.\r The waitress was running like crazy while the manager was doing nothing when the place was not ready. He tried to give her orders in between chats and sittings at his buddies? table. She brushed him off.\r The empty tables (including our) were only partially ready. Our table had only one glass, paper napkins and knives and no forks. Even when food came they did not bother to provide forks until we asked for them.\r Waitress asked if we were ready to order without asking if we wanted any drinks. \r We ordered mixed ceviche and beef carnitas for appetizers. It took quite awhile for the appetizers to arrive. Carnitas came cold; ceviche - way over salted. Was it fresh?\r For main course we had stuffed chicken breast and filet minion au pouvre. Food came just warm. Chicken was rubbery and dry. Filet minion (although ordered as medium) was almost well done, meat was flaky and rough rising questions about freshness and the method of storage. \r The bill ran to $97 for two. Cons: Unwelcoming environment, bad management. more

Worst service 4/7/2008

On sunday we decided to go for a late brunch. We passed by Novo couple of times, and decided it would be a great place for brunch. What a mistake that was. We ordered eggs, and some fruit platter. Right next to us, a couple that came to the restaurant at the same time as we ordered dinner/lunch. After 15 minutes they received their food, which i might add did look appetizing. After 30 minutes, our food was not there, we asked the waitress where it was, she said its coming, after 10 minutes it will be out momentarily. After 50 minutes of waiting for us, my boyfriend asked again, how long it will take for our food to arrive, the waitress gave us a tandrum that we should not speak to her like that and that she will get us the manager. For god's sakes a simple, sorry there will be a mix up would be enough. The manager did not come to our table, but told her to give us free drinks, but did not tell us how long until our food is to be served. Needless to say, we got up and left. Definetely the worst service I had encountered in a longest time. Pros: decor? Cons: waitress, very long wait, over 50 min for brunch! more

GREAT MOJITO AND LIVE MUSIC 2/15/2008

Monday Nights are great at Novo...live music by a wonderful Jazz Trio. One of the best Mojito's in the neighborhood. They have flavored Mojitos as well as Classic. Its a great place for a drink after work, a great neighborhood joint to go grab a drink and a bite to eat with friends. Manhattan flair with Queens prices. So for the best Mojito in this neighborhood go to Novo. Pros: AMBIENCE, SEATING, SERVICE Cons: LIMITED SEATING AT BAR more

delicious mojito, good food 6/23/2007

After walking around Jackson Heights and enjoying all the sights and smells, we walked past Novo and found the menu to be appealing. It was a great choice - the prices were so easonable and the food \r was quite good. All four of us were please diwht our entree, especially the pork chop special. The blackberry mojitos were delicious. The service was pleasant - it was definitely a serendipitous find. more

Best Mojitos Ever 5/15/2007

This place is amazing!!--tons of character, great food, and I love the owners!! The music is great too, lots of variety--some nights Jazz, then Samba on Wednesdays and of Friday and Saturday nights its packed and everybody is dancing until all hours of the night so if you're in the mood for something low key go on Sun night-Wed night and if you want something with a little more Club/Lounge Scene go Thurs-Sat. You must try this place!!. Pros: food and music more

Jazz in Jackson Heights! 10/30/2006

Jazz in Jackson Heights, Queens, NYC! Real jazz every Monday night 7 to 10pm! This is big news - there is a tiny sign in the window, so you could miss it. I know I did. But this is the real thing, Jim Hershman's Trio is the band. I was there 10/30/06, and even tho' another guitarist was sitting in for Hershman, it was great, real jazz by hip young players in Jackson Heights!\r \r Casual atmosphere, great music!
