Editorial review from Citysearch 7/11/2014

In regards to the kitten mentioned below that was ""killed"" by Tamara D. Lynch, DVM. Yes it did have severe ringworm due to a compromised immune system. This was obvious since not only did it test positive with a simple free test (Wood's Lamp), every human member of the household had severe ringworm lesions, which I also contracted. The ringworm fungal infection was previously overlooked by another veterinarian. The kitten also had severe diarrhea from a mixed protozoal parasite infection called coccidia and giardia. The kitten was treated by myself for the intestinal infection in addition to the ringworm in hopes that the immune system would recover. The kitten did start to form normal stool. Unfortunately, due to a birth defect called atresia ani (where the anus wasn't fully formed) the kitten was unable to defecate. This was not recognizable while the kitten had diarrhea. The owners waited over 72 hours after the kitten last defecated and over 24 hours since the kitten last urinated before bringing her back to see me. The kitten was in complete renal failure due to urinary tract obstruction caused by the accumulated stool. No amount of veterinary care, skilled or otherwise, could have saved this kitten. I'm sorry the owners were angry enough to write the review they did. Hopefully anyone else reading this will understand.\r \r Tamara D. Lynch, DVM more

For my first visit here I waited 30 3/12/2012

For my first visit here I waited 30 minutes without speaking to a single staff member. Once I hit the hour mark I walked out. NO VET IS WORTH WAITING THAT LONG! The people there were rude and not informative. They acted as though it was normal procedure to have people waiting. Pros: null Cons: null more

Tamara Lynch the other vet that works 11/27/2011

Tamara Lynch the other vet that works there should not be allowed to practice anymore. i had a 5-6week old kitten that was energetic healthy loving kitten. We took her in for a check up and when we left she had 4 different meds Supposivly for ring worm. Turns out it was anti diahrea medication that backed her up and killed her within 48hrs and the last 24 hrs spent fighting for her life on a IV. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PETS DO NOT TAKEN THEM THERE. Pros: null Cons: null more

Awesome! 5/19/2010

If you are looking for a great practice and low cost, use this vet. I've been going to North Gratiot for the last 10 years and they are awesome. I work in animal rescue and have been to vets all over town - west side, east side, all over and there is no other vet that can compare. Their office calls are pretty in line with other vets but most of their services are cheaper than any other vet I can find. The doctors are very caring and the girls that work the front office are incredible. Can't rate them high enough. If you're looking for a great vet, you will find it here. more

GREAT DOCTOR/HONEST DONT TRY TO JUST SELL PRODUCTS! 9/26/2008

Thank you Dr.T\r he is very honest. Dr.T referred me to a surgen when he could put pins in but it would be better to get plates and pins on my 3# 7oz Toy yorkie. He called around to get a fair price. Thank You Dr.T for you honesty!! You will be my vetrinarin for Ever!!! more

The best vet EVER! 6/7/2008

We have been seeing Dr. Theuerkauf for awhile now, and he just recently saved my dog's life. We thought he had a lump that was cancerous, and Dr. T suggested we remove the lump and scheduled him the very next day. During the surgery, we were called and told that it was not cancer, that my dog had eaten a shishkabob stick and it was sticking out of his side. Had it not been for the expertise of Dr. T and Dr. Malburg, I honestly don't think he would have survived the surgery. They had to suture a hole in his esophagus and in his stomach. We did not care how much we would be charged, but they were very conscientious about the price, we were charged less than $700. for everything. He came home the very next day doing really well. Did I mention he is a 13 year old beagle? As for the review earlier on the Rimadyl medication, I ask a lot of questions when my dog is put on any medication, it is very unfortunate the owners did not ask for the information themselves. As a matter of fact, 3 or 4 years ago, Dr. T repaired Hunter's (that's my dog's name), ACL on both hind legs and he was put on Rimadyl right after. Since he was a puppy he has had high liver enzymes, Dr. T told us about the side effects, but said they would monitor him closely. He had no problems with the medication. I completely trust them with my pet's life, as I feel Hunter would not be here today without them. I cannot say enough great things about them!! Pros: Doctors and staff are the best Cons: very busy, but worth the wait more

Reall Good Vet Clinic 5/3/2008

I switched to North Gratiot from another local 24/7 well-known vet in the area because I wanted a second opinion on my pooch. We saw Dr. Malburg, and he was an excellent, caring and competent vet. We have since been back a few times for various minor problems, and we have always gotten the best of care and the most concerned doctors and techs. Also, their prices are so much more fair. Dr. Malburg has returned my calls after hours to address a concern I had with aftercare of my dog. He is a really kind and concerned vet. It's hard to get in to see him though. He's a busy guy. Pros: Excellent vet and tech staff, really fair pricing. Cons: Very busy, sometimes hard to see the desired vet more

very caring and thorough 3/19/2008

I have been going to North Gratiot Vet for over 10 years, spanning 2 cats and 3 dogs. I have never encountered anything but caring and thorough vets and support staff. Every time I have taken an animal to them for a problem, they have been sympathetic to my feelings while giving my pets undivided and complete care. Currently, my 4 year old lab is having some problems, and they have called every day to get an update and are obviously truely concerned with her well being. Pros: Excellent care for your pet Cons: They are busy, so you may have a wait more

Great doctors here! 3/15/2008

I read the last review posted and was highly distressed by it. Rimadyl is in a family of medications called non-steroidal anti-inflammatories which includes our wonderful over the counter aspirin. Have you ever taken aspirin? Have you ever read the potential side effects of aspirin? It includes "acute fulminating hepatic failure" Pros: Excellent medical care, reasonable prices Cons: Long waiting at times, very busy practice more

They ended my dog's life with their incompetence. 2/29/2008

I went to this place to get something to help my dog move around, I have a 10 year old yellow lab. She was slightly overweight, and had a bit of arthritis in her back hips. Other than that she was perfectly healthy and normal. These guys prescribed Rimadyl. They said it was safe and effective. After 2 weeks my lab is now being put down. She is suffering from lack of appetite, partial paralysis, excessive thirst, and constant urination. Even when she's lying down and sleeping. She cant walk straight anymore and appears very unhappy. On the advice of a friend, after having her put down, I checked up on Rimadyl online and found out about all the side effects of it. Feel free to check it yourself, theyre all on the list. Dr. Tharekoff (SP?) Did not bother to tell me that Rimadyl might have any of the side effects, If he had, I would have caught the early symptoms and known to stop giving my dog Rimadyl. They did not bother to include any paperwork with the stuff which typically has the symptoms listed. I trusted this guy, and he basically murdered my dog with his incompetence. She has NO chance of a full recovery, and is sadly spending the last night of her life in a cold cell waiting for the dawn that she will never see... I can still see her eyes staring up at me from the floor as I write this review... Begging me to make the pain stop and end the embarrasment as she lays there unable to move... Unable to feel the urine puddling up underneath her... Asking why I continued poisioning her with the very thing that was supposed to make her better... All because I trusted the wrong guy... Who told me that the stuff he gave me was safe... If you'll excuse me now, I have to go look into my wife's eyes and explain all this to her.... Pros: Wanna get rid of a pet? Good place to get it poisoned. Cons: Wanna keep your pet alive and happy? If your goin here, I didnt think so. more

Dr. T. has taken care of my babies since he opened his practice . He's a very compassionate man, and his entire staff are very friendly. greatest most compassionate vet in the world 10/25/2007

I live almost 30 miles from North Gratiot Vet, I pass half a dozen vets office on my way to North Gratiot. These Vets have seen me throught three animals. The last being Vicca, who developed a vascular disease and had to be put down. Dr. Tharekoff (I hope I spelled it correctly) was the most amazing Dr. I have ever encountered. This man never gave up hope on my sweet girl, he gave me all the facts he had, yet did it with such compassion and caring. Once he had exhausted all possibilities he was honest with me and gave the option of going to a specialist. Not only did he help me through a very emotional experience, he gave me more than a fair price. I feel indebted to him and I will never forget how caring he was to me and my sweet girl. Thank You so much ! Pros: everyone in the office was concerned for me and my animal Cons: Not one more

What can I say....EXCELLENT 11/19/2005

Dr. T is a caring, kind, sensitive, and very cute guy. He has a friendly and caring staff there. I have only been with him for the past 6 months, but I have liked him from day 1. I am a certified veterinary technician and have worked for a few veterinarians and I recommend him!!! more

Take good care 11/18/2005

They take good care of my baby cocker spaniel. If I think he has to be seen right away, they let me bring him in. So kind there. You can take your pet in just for shots too and they don't charge you more than the shot fee. more
