WORST computer repair experience EVER 1/12/2012

The WORST excuse for a business ever. My computer (a 2 year old HP laptop) began shutting off randomly and then went to not turning on at all. I took it to Norman Computer because I had read online that they were good. I took the computer in at the end of September. They told me it was an update that hadn't been completed, so it seemed to be running fine in the store, paid $39 for the service, and took it home to have it do the same exact thing again. I took it back the next day and they ran some diagnostics on it. The motherboard had failed and it was a $150 part + $50 labor -$39 failed diagnostic = $200. The new part came in, didn't work. By now it is November. I am frustrated because I had an online class that was very difficult to complete when I had no laptop. The new motherboard came in and it still doesn't work. The manufacturer they used will not refund them for the part, therefore, not refunding me for the wasted grand total of $200, 4 months time waiting, and having to purchase a new laptop elsewhere. They NEVER called me back for updates on the thing. I always had to contact them for information about it (the motherboard) being shipped in, worked on, etc. I had to go to the shop several times to ask where the darned laptop was and it was always ""in pieces, sorry"" or ""we are working on it"" or ""oh, we didn't call you?"". Now I can see that they do not know what they're doing. Obviously it is not the motherboard that is wrong, but they can't figure this out! This is why I paid them. I can understand that they have no control on the manufacturer place, but at least have the decency to call your customers back and correctly put the information into the system. I will NEVER do business with them again. They have wasted my time, money, and my patience. more

A Biased Opinion 1/8/2012

First off, I am the owner of Norman Computers, so my opinion is obviously biased. It has come to my attention that we received a negative review on this site and I thought it best to address the issue. First off, we do a FREE DIAGNOSTICS. This means you can bring in your computer and we will give you our opinion at no charge. If you don't like what we have to say, or if the computer is not worth fixing, there is still NO CHARGE! Second, all projects that get checked in are entered into our database system. If you have any questions or concerns about your project, we are always happy to go over the notes with you. If your project is not in our database system, and if we do not have a signed authorization form to work on your project, then it was never checked in at our facility and you probably have us confused with another company. Finally, most projects are completed within 24 hours unless we have to special order parts. Due to the volume of computers we service, we do not have room to store a project longer than necessary. It is important that customers write their contact information clearly on our check-in form and verify the information so we are able to contact you when your project is completed. Norman Computers has been around for 11+ years (more if you count my private consulting service i ran in college). Over the years, we have had both praise and criticism and constantly work to improve our service. This is why we have outlasted many failed competitors. I do not claim our service to be perfect, though we are organized and very careful about what we do. In many cases, we will attempt very difficult projects that have a significant chance of failure since we guarantee our work and only charge for work completed successfully (which can save the customer a lot of money), or transfer the data to a new system if unsuccessful. The most common cause of delay is a customer not signing the authorization form since my technicians will not perform unauthorized work. It is true that there have been computers left at Norman Computers for many months... though never because we do not call since we only get paid if the customer picks up their system. I find it completely unreasonable that a person would not stop by to check on their system were it in the shop for more than a few days after the promised delivery time, yet we have accumulated dozens of abandoned computers over the years. Usually, this is because a person decides it is not worth fixing and forgets to tell us or something happens and they can't afford the repair last minute. (though it is our policy to work with people on their repair costs as best as we are able) I cannot stress this enough... If your computer is in the store more than a couple days past the promised completion date, please call us. We probably have incorrect contact information and would really like for you to pick up your computer. Feel free to call with any questions (405) 292-9501 more

Unprofessional and incompetent 6/8/2011

I brought in a hard drive to be installed in a laptop. Should be simple right? They had it over a month before I got the laptop back. Where to start... They never called me back to ket me know the status of my laptop...I always had to call them. Even when it was ready for pickup, I still found out about it when I called them. Another time the person I had talked to said it was readynfor pickup, and when I arrived the hard drive was not installed. Seemed incredibly unprofessional. Anytime I came by or called, they always had some excuse and blamed somebody else. They lost my power cord, although an employee gave me one of the universal ones they sell. And maybe this is my fault for being ignorant, but the price seemed really high for what I received. I brought in a 5 year old laptop and had to purchase a $100 hard drive. Their installation cost me $100. It seems that a good business would have been more concerned about having a happy customer and tell me I can just buy a better computer now for $300-400 rather than fixing the old laptop. If they had done that, I would've been ecstatic and been likely to use them again. But that $100 was so important that they didn't look out for my best interest. Again, that's partly on me for not knowing any better. Would never use them again and would never recommend them to anyone. more
