Huge Disappointment! 9/2/2009

Maybe Monday's are just not good for this restaurant. I took my wife here for her 40th Birthday - we had the 9 course chef's menu with wine pairing. The service was excellent throughout. The food was a great disappointment. The raw scallop dish smelled exceedingly fishy and was slimy - why we didn't send it back, I can't explain (at least we didn't get sick). The filet mignon was very mealy, maybe over-seared or worse, re-heated - we did send that back. The lamb, rabbit and cheese dishes were good, albeit simple. Other dishes were lame to uninteresting and things anyone could do at home (e.g., quarter of a tomato with a splat of wasabi on top and sea salt on the side). All of the wines were good, but none paired with the dish(i.e., the taste didn't alter at all after sampling the food) - no bottles were brought to the table, just the glass, so we could not confirm what wines we were actually getting. Based on other reviews, maybe we just chose the worst day possible - we were the only people in the restaurant. Based on the $$$$ for our meal, for fish, I'd recommend Providence. Spago has the best chefs menu (this is our benchmark), followed closely by Hatfields. Ortolan and Grace are also highly recommended. Unfortunately, Noe is now at the bottom of our list. Pros: Service Cons: Food more

Unbelievable Food! 3/26/2008

Was at Noe last night with my sister and cousin Diego for dinner. He is a manager at the hotel and had told me about this restaurant for a while so we decided to go. We had the 6 course dinner and it was unbelievable. The pairing of wines were on the spot. The service was great. They brought us 3 different kind of fresh rolls every 5 minutes with truffle butter that was very delicious. The manager Charles Lee introduced himself and asked if we needed anything or had any questions about the menu or wines that he would be happy to help. The waiter gave us a little bit of an introduction to every wine and why it was the perfect pairing with the next course. Also met the chef Glenn Ichii after our excelent dinner. Will be coming back for another great experience shortly. Pros: Experience you will never forget! more

DineLa reveiw of Noe's Omni Hotel 1/29/2008

My husband and I heard about the three course deal in LA which is called\r DineLa. There are about 100 Restaurants participating. We chose Noe at\r the Omni hotel in Downtown, LA. Service was OK. Food tasted OK but there\r was so little food that we left hungry. We had a choice of two items for each\r course and we got different items so we can share and sample each others food.\r \r On our main entrees I had Cornish Hen Roulade with Foie Gras. There were only three walnut size chicken breast on my plate. I did not even taste any Foie Gras on my chicken My husband had Bouillabaisse with wild fish and shellfish, his dish only had one shrimp, one mussel, one clam and two pieces of fish each only two inches long.\r \r Needless to say we left hungry having spent over $100. We will not go back to Noe's again.\r more

Great food. Great Decor. Horrible Customer Service. No warm fuzzies. 8/27/2007

Great food. Great decor. But the service is horrible. The staff walks around like robots. No expressions of emotions. No smiles. Nothing. My party of 13 went there recently to dine. You would think, people would be happy that you selected their place to spend their money. The manager never came by and said hello or even asked what the occassion or how was the service. The executive chef did not out per my request at the end of our dinner and talked to us. That was cool. \r \r Bottom line is the food is really good but they do need to work on the warm fuzzies for customer service. Pros: Valet Parking was $5.00. Beautiful decor. Cigar lounge. Live music. Cons: Service was horrible. Need warm fuzzies. more

Great Spontaneous Tasting Menus! 2/7/2007

Chef Gadsby did an amazing job creating an on the spot menu! Wines were paired by the steward with skill and many by the glass options were unique. I've been several times and reservations are recommended during peak dining hours. However, if you can't get in, the full menu is served in the sizable lounge. more

Elegant, Delicious, and Friendly 1/7/2007

Just went last nite. All-around great fine dining experience without attitude and lame-o industry types. Go during the weekends when downtown LA is quiet, magical, and romantic...! Pros: friendly service, non-intrusive, detail-oriented, delicious food more

Don't believe the hype 8/21/2006

Beautiful lighting and decor lure you inside, but over priced offerings with a seemingly unconcerned staff await. This restaurant is perfect for the visiting business person with an expense account, otherwise it's a waste of time and money for anyone who has been to one of the better restaurants in Los Angeles. The foie gras sampler was boring when it promised so much on the menu, the mimosa salad was fine but hardly anything special. The entrees were the best thing on the menu. The service was inconsistant. We were served someone else's entrees before receiving our appetizers. In addition, it took the waiter 20 minutes to inform us that the bottle of wine we had requested was unavailable. I was very disappointed that a chef of Gadsby's caliber was obviously not monitoring the quality of the food and the service. Too bad we didn't stop by when he was visiting as I'm sure it would have been a different experince entirely. Pros: Ambience, lighting, romantic Cons: Poor service, overpriced for the experience more
