Seems like a keeper... 12/4/2010

we like the dim lit area and my husband loves the brews. other patrons make it pretty loud and obnoxious but the pub cannot help that. overall great experience. more

funky atmosphere 9/15/2008

I've been there twice, once for brunch and once for dinner. I really enjoyed the food at brunch and the bloody marys, and the live jazz music. Sandwiches for dinner were good, not the best. Fries were okay. I'm literally addicted to the sauce for the fries. more

nice beer 11/10/2007

This place is good for an after shopping beer with friends. Basic bar food with good beer. like most places it can get crazy at night or on the weekends get there early and don't plan on staying long. Pros: beer more

i originally came on Citysearch when someone suggested Nodding Head to me. I read the bad reviews like ""arrogant Scottish waiter, too dark, too noisey, too loud, etc..."" and thought ""this is MY kinda place"". great homebrew beer for about $5 a pint, great fries, and a decent atmosphere if you're into a dark beer and a darker bar. one of the better pubs in the city. Pros: brew/fries Cons: parking, but its sansom. what do you expect? more

Worst Service in the City 2/12/2007

I took a few friends here, a couple of beer people like me, and Nodding Head was a disaster. I attribute this mostly to the waiter who was a rude, holier-than-thou type industry guy that turned the night a special kind of worthless. He blathered cloaked-insults at us through his scottish accent, and, when we joked back at him became nasty. He was, as the bar is, worthless. I'll never go to Nodding Head again, guarenteed. Pros: you might find a beer you like, but probably not Cons: the waitstaff more

Monkey Knife Fight 11/1/2006

If you like Monk's, you'll like Nodding Head. The food is very similar, outstanding muscles and sandwiches. The only difference is that here the brews are in house. Having tried many of the micro-breweries in the area, I would say that for beer alone, this gets the prize. more

Right on Target 6/7/2006

If Nodding Head were a round of darts, it would score a few bulls eyes. Not only are the darts fun with a few home brewed beers, but the jukebox rocks, the mussels and fries are delcious, the crowd is friendly, and best of all the staff has zero attitude...that's a first for Philly. The cute ""Nodding Head"" collectible dolls on display also add to the charm and ambience of this local watering hole. Pros: Darts, Home Brewed Beers, Zero Attitude Cons: No outdoor area, Table for dinner only more

Take it or leave it 2/12/2006

While I admit that I left Nodding Head with a satisfied stomach there isn't much more to write about the place. My boyfriend and I went for a Monday lunch and both ordered burgers and beer - he enjoyed his beer and so did I, but the food was nothing to write home about. While the french fries are probably homemade, the burgers are run of the mill. Pros: French Fries, Home-brewed beer Cons: Parking more

ok burgers, awesome fries... 6/2/2005

Everyone raves about the burger, so i had to drop by and try it. It's not too bad (i had better), but the fries were freakin' GOOD! Not the fries itself, but the dippin' sauce. It was a Sunday, so they had live jazz band. Pros: FRIES! more

During the day, this place is great. The service is dynamite and very very friendly. At night, this place blows. Avoid it like the plague. The food is slow. The service is rude. And it's ridiculously loud. The sandwiches are very good and the fries are excellent. The bartender during the day is a pip (that's a compliment). Go for lunch. You won't be dissapointed. Pros: Good Food, Good Service(day) Cons: Loud, Bad Service(night) more

still so good 1/23/2005

Its been awhile since i was a regular. I still love their awesome pork sandwich, their strip steak, and try their real muffaletta!!!!! Check out the fries here! Oh so good. And still great service from my peeps. Always love to come back to the 'Head! Pros: food and drinks more

nod the hed 1/1/2005

Nodding Head is one of my favorite pubs in the city. Tasty beer, great food, reasonable prices. One of the very few pubs that actually brews their own. Usually you can find a table pretty easily, though it gets inexplicably crowded sometimes. Yes, their policy of not letting you sit at the tables unless you're ordering food does suck. And yes, they have an occasional ""off"" night where the food or service is subpar. But on the whole, after maybe 20+ visits, I like this place. Pros: good beer, good food, usually not crowded more

Nodding my Head ""No"" 12/16/2004

I celebrated my friend's birthday with 12 people here a few hours ago. It took forever to be seated. We waited at the overly crowded bar and had 60 Shilling beer. It took the waiter about 30 minutes to get us our drinks. Then we gave our orders and it took even longer to receive them. We had Sample Starters; tasty but very oily. I had Fish and Chips (God Save the Queen!). Everything was overcooked. I was losing my appetite since it took so darn long to get our order. I asked for a drink and didn't receive it until minutes before we left. I wanted to like NHB but the service was the slowest, food was overcooked and greasy, and it's TOO noisy. I'd go here for the bar only. Check out the cute display of nodding heads. Parking is a pain; the nearby parking garage's EXTREMELY expensive. Pros: Beer Cons: , Food, Noise more

Excellent Beer 8/3/2004

What an awesome place to cap a night on the town! Great beer, friendly bartenders, and a frelaxed atmosphere make this a great place to wind down an evening with friends. And what is cooler than a showcase full of bobbleheads! Pros: Beer, Ambiance, Beer more

Terrible Service! 6/30/2004

The food is OK, but the service is horrendous. Once I was there with friends for late night drinks, and we wanted to sit at a table. We were informed that the tables were for people ordering food only. We protested due to the fact that there was NOBODY eating in the restaurant and that every booth was just sitting empty, but to no avail and we actually left and went somewhere else. I've been back since for lunch and received similarly rude service...totally unacceptable. Pros: Decent menu, affordable more

Top shelf service 7/25/2003

Being a Travel agent it's my job to find the hidden treasures for my clients, and I have definitely found one in Nodding Head!!! From the time I arrived until the time I left I was treated like a Queen. The staff was not only informative about the wide verity of delicious food and homemade beer, but they were extraordinarily attentive to every need that arose. The light beer has little flavor, however the dark ""Grog"" is absolutely amazing! Nodding Head is now at the top of my short list of Best Brew Pubs in the Philadelphia area, if not the country. Pros: Service, Beer (Grog), Food Cons: Lighter Beer more

NOT THE SAME! 7/21/2003

I VE BEEN GOING TO SAM ADAMS/NODDING HEAD SINCE IT OPENED.ALWAYS LOVED IT.UNTIL THE OTHER DAY,THE BEER WAS AWFUL,AND WARM.THE RESTAURANT WAS HOT,NO A/C. THE PLACE EVEN LOOKED UNKEPT AND DIRTY.SO I WASNT GOING TO ORDER ANY FOOD.I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED.I CAN ONLY BLAME THE OWNER/MANAGEMENT FOR THIS. Pros: GOOD WORKERS, NOT CROWDED Cons: BAD BEER, NOT CLEAN, HOT more

Good for Groups 5/28/2003

Went to lunch here with a large group (20+ individuals). The upstairs room was adequate for our group. The food was inexpensive. more
