Best

i must say.... the sushi is pretty good! :)

Worst

Not what I thought it would be at all. Neither pretentious nor chic. Just kind of a glorified sushi bar. The service was excellent but I thought the food was very overpriced. I...

If you have the money to spend, this is a great place to eat tasty sushi 6/27/2007

It is no secret that nobu is good, but other sushi places are just as good. If you want simple good sushi with very high quality fish, this is the place. But, if you want more exiting and innovative sushi, you may be left wanting more. A Dinner for 2 is around 80 bucks here to prepare to SPEND! Pros: The fish quality, the location Cons: $, very simple sushi more

celeb frequented and great food 2/13/2007

Nobu always has good food and the best sushi but the waitress who was serving us was a little rude and had some attitude. And when STING walked in and sat right next to us, our waitress basically ignored us for the rest of the night. Despite the not so great service, the food AND seeing Sting was AMAZING and they have THE best desserts, try the chocolate springrolls! Pros: good food, Sting was there Cons: bad service more

Great for sashimi and cooked items. 8/20/2006

Nobu offers fresh sashimi, innovative cooked items and great desserts. Also a nice place to take tourists for the glance at an occasional celebrity. For a die-hard sushi fan though, there are places that offer better enjoyment per $. Pros: Great sashimi and cooked items more

Ehh.. 2/25/2006

This place was quite disappointing. First off, this place can't be defined as romantic; its crowded, loud, and doesn't even have a view. Secondly, service was marginal....sure the waiter knew what was on the menu but just from the sheer quality of the service that was provided...it was probably on par with a place like Olive Garden. I'll say that the sushi was decent, but I've had much better. Been there once...and probably not anymore Pros: decent food, good desserts Cons: price, crowded, medicore service more

Nothing Special 1/13/2006

I live in Malibu, and only go to Nobu when I don't feel like going far from home for dinner. The food is not much better than a take out sushi restraunt. The service is a bit less than mediocre, it's crowded (as are all Malibu restraunts) The sushi is prepared poorly, although the fish is fresh. (but so is the fish at ANY other ""nice"" sushi restraunt. Pros: Malibu, Stars Cons: Poor sushi, bad service, crowded more

Great local sushi place 10/19/2005

Nobue is a great local Malibu sushi restaurant. The food is always good and I highly recommend the Taradito and Black Cod with Miso which melts in your mouth. Service is good and the people watching is great. If you like to see lot's of ""industry"" people, actors, etc. Nobu is definitely the place to go. Make reservations at least a week in advance unless you want to show up when the door open at 5:45pm. The bar is a first come first serve only with no reservations. Nobu has become much more difficult to get in without a reservation since the paparrazi have continuosly snapped shots for People, Us and other magazines. Pros: Good food, Great People watching, Good parking Cons: Expensive, Reservations more

Not at all up to the hype 9/25/2005

for as much ink as this place garners, the food was mediocre at best. not much better than a run-of-the-mill strip mall japanese restaurant. the service was horrible, with the wrong dishes brought to the table, drink orders forgotten, and a serious lack of attention to detail(s). i can't recommend this at all. for the prices they charge, the food and the service should be flawless. Cons: Food Quality, Service more

Diners looking for eel rolls, or those wanting to penny-pinch, should definitely go elsewhere. Nobu caters to diners looking for creatively delicious food. Hence, the hefty price tag. However, those who are willing to indulge will be very pleased, as some of the dishes on the menu are the best one can ever have! The Omasake is well-worth it! The black-cod miso in lettuce cups is simply to die-for! The yellowtail jalapeno is the best I have had, the rock-shrimp tempura (though common in most resturants) is delicious! However, the best dish on the menu is the kobe steak that melts in your mouth!!! Pros: not as pretentious, scrumptious food, large omasake Cons: expensive more

The Best Nobu I Have Tried 8/23/2005

I have been to Nobu NY, Miami and Matsuhisa and I would have to say I enjoyed my experience at the Malibu location the most. The portions here are substantially larger but of not lesser quality. I am not sure if I just tried it on a lucky day or what but the omakase was absolutely huge! The atomosphere at the Malibu outpost is noticeably much more casual than the other locations as well. Jeans and flip flops were a common sight. Nobu opens at 5:45pm so if you don't have a reservation, get there as soon as they unlock the door to ensure yourself a seat because it will filled up by 6:30pm. Pros: huge omakase, creativity, casual vibe Cons: pricey! more

Get a clue 8/13/2005

As a local, Nobu would be my first choice for dinner. Period. You could go for the sushi, I suppose, but I go because no matter who you are, you will be treated like royalty--which I am certainly not. Eat inside, not out. Order the passion fruit sake. Ask for Tim, but thank Erica. Pros: Erica, Tim, Ian Cons: Expensive more

yummy... 8/7/2005

I'm not a big seafood eater and definitely not a sushi eater but I had some fish thing here (cooked) that was simply amazing. Also for dessert a giant plate of goodies. Many celebs as well. The patio was a little stuffy/humid but, it's Malibu. Also, plenty of free parking. Pros: food, celebs, parking Cons: stuffy on the patio more

Simply the Best 3/21/2005

First off, Nobu is amazing...it is worth every penny. The food is some of the best in Los Angeles and well worth the drive into Malibu. Now I must say that I go out a lot and I want to pay a compliment to one of the best bartenders in Los Angeles. Dave behind the bar at Nobu is awesome. Simply the best drinks, great personality, good to look at, funny and Ive never seen a faster bartender. He is one of the top 5 bartenders in all of Los Angeles! The bar is the place to sit at Nobu. Pros: Food, Bartender, Service Cons: The Drive, Hard to get in more

average experience 12/19/2004

The food is ok. I think the restaurant is a bit overrated. The sushi is fresh, I give it that. The maki (rolls) are a joke. We ordered the eel and cucumber roll and you could only taste the cucumber. I've had better at a local Pasadena sushi place if you can believe it. The soft shell crab spring roll was good as was the chilean seabass. Again, pretty much what I expect from a highly rated restaurant, nothing more. Service was BAD. We asked for green tea and sake and neither came but we were charged for both. The table was rickety and they couldn't seem to fix it. I'd rather head to J-town for a better value! Pros: good parking more

Typical Nobu Matsuhisa....... 10/18/2004

Like Nobu Malibu's counterparts in New York and Beverly Hills (Matsuhisa), this place never fails to disappoint. I would highly suggest ordering the Nobu special hot and cold dishes, while skipping the sushi. The sushi's good, however, you can find sushi of the same or better quality at places such as Takao in Brentwood or Hamakawa. Try the blackened cod with miso! It will melt in your mouth. The fruit sake is a definite must! Warning, it might not taste like much, however after a feel shots, you'll be feeling awfully happy! Pros: Food, Atmosphere more

Worth the trip 10/3/2004

I am not sure why citysearch rates this as unromantic--we found the patio to be cozy and intimate. I've been drooling over Nobu since eating at his other restaurant Matsuhisa, and I can say it was everything I dreamed of and more. The albacore sushi melted in my mouth, and the sea bass with black bean sauce had a buttery flavor that was simply to die for. Our server knew nothing about wine, but he was attentive (as was all of the staff) and kept a perfect balance between hovering and ignoring. The food is tapas style and meant to be shared so you can try a bit of everything. Pros: parking lot, great food, cozy atmosphere more

Nobody can do it better than Nobu 12/31/2003

Yes this place is expansive, yes you will see a star or two who get much better service than you, there there are many people who are there to burn money and yes you will only get their okay sushi. BUT, the okay sushi from Nobu is SOOOOOOO much superior to that of other sushi places in LA. There is a reason why Mr. Nobu is world famous. Try the special yellowtail and the teredito and the octopus. They all are to die for. Pros: Sushi, Sushi, Sushi Cons: price more

Bonnie and Jerry 7/25/2003

It certainly was a tasty treat foraging through the fanatically fresh and unusual maritime fare. My most important suggestion is to eat BEFORE you arrive since the portions are Lilliputian, to say the least. IF you are set on spending $100 each for food only, your hunger will be satisfied.... Pros: a flavor extravaganza, Trendy Cons: Very expensive, meager plates more

very good isn't good enough 6/12/2003

okay, so the fish is very fresh, and there are some exotic choices. The presentations are nice, too, but simply not worth the price. Throw in eager, friendly but far less than professional informed servers you find at outstanding Italian and French restaurants, for example, and average service isn't worth top dollar, either. I prefer Zuma Sushi up the street about six miles. Terrific sushi, very accomodating service and half the price. Pros: good fresh food, nice decor Cons: price, service, value more
