My husband and I came for happy hour for the first time thinking to spend some time trying tapas and having a glass of wine while waiting for the Rockies game to start. It was NOT...

Wonderful for a drink and a small premeal treat! 10/3/2006

We were quite early for a reservation next door, so we stopped here and we were glad we did. Me and my wife ordered a drink and a tapas plate, a three different cheese combination. We enjoyed both quite a bit and the service from the bartender was great. The food/drinks didn't seem overpriced either. We liked the ambience, it seemed like quite the upbeat, trendy place. We really enjoyed ourselves. Pros: Tapas, Drinks, Service Cons: None that we could notice more

great food, great atmosphere 8/12/2006

The 9th door is right on as far as spanish style small plates, drinks and atmosphere. I very much suggest stopping in for an hour, or two, or three! Pros: food and drinks are authentic, great atmosphere Cons: can get fairly crowded more

Wonderful for a night out on the town 8/5/2006

10 of us went to the 9th door for a birthday celebration, and it was the best choice we could have made. The sangria is the closest that you can get to actual sangria served in Spain. The food was incredible - the salmon wrapped asparagus, the tuna ceviche, and the figs with blue cheese wrapped in ham were truly outstanding. Our server was wonderful (I wish I could remember her name!) - she was attentive without being intrusive, was extremely friendly and personable, and took great care of us and her other customers. All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience and started our evening off fantastically. We will very definitely be back! Pros: Food, service, ambiance more

The service really is below par 3/30/2006

I have been to the 9th door 5 times now and I return for the food and the food alone. On my most recent visit the hostess was not quite hostile, but almost. The server seemed to be either confused, or maybe overtired- he never once offered to bring us another drink and we were drinking expensive wine! He actually dropped some silverware while clearing it from the table and put it back on the table. And, he gave us the check before we'd asked, after we said we planned to order more food. Too bad- owners/managers please pay attention and do something or you'll start losing business. Pros: great food Cons: service, slow, rude more

Great place for groups! 2/12/2006

We went there on a Sat. night. We had a reservation and our table was ready promptly...even though half our group was not...so we sat at the bar while we waited. The bar was well-staffed and friendly and the drink selection is very good. We sat in a back booth which was a little cramped for 4 couples but not terribly so. The variety and quality of the tapas was wonderful. With such a large group, we cut the dishes into 8ths and ordered more if everyone liked it. The calamari was delicious, as was the steak/potato/bleu cheese dish. Food ran about $15 pp and drink was about $20. We will definitely be back! Pros: Price, Food, Location Cons: Parking, Table size more

Service must have gotten better 1/20/2006

We were a little worried about the service, based on previous reviews. Either we got lucky (not that way!) with our server Sky, or they've fixed the service problem, because it was great. Food was great also, although we expected it from the previous reviews. Sky also recommended items that turned out to be the best of the bunch. No problem with all the tapas coming at once as previously noted, everything was pretty randomly spaced. Happy hour appetizer menu outstanding. Only drawbacks to ambience were the occasional blast of arctic air from the outside (we were near the door) and the music, which was just a bit too loud. Pros: Service, Novelty, Food more

tepid tapas and bad service 12/12/2005

All the food arrived almost simultaneously, most of it before our wine even arrived (we asked for our wine at least three times before it was served). In order to make room for the onslaught of quickly cooling tapas, the server even went so far as to put the menu, that we wanted for later reference, on the floor. In addition, our waitress almost spilled our beverages everytime she came to clear something. The only good thing would have been the food if it had been timed better (at all really) and eaten while hot. Pros: food Cons: service, timing more

Could be good..... 11/13/2005

if the attitude of the staff wasn't so pretentious. The food has the potential to be interesting, but the execution of several combinations wasn't executed well. Did I mention they are pretentious? Too bad really. more

What's the rave about? 10/21/2005

I have been to the 9th Door about 6 times...there is a decent bar scene. However, I have found the food to be average and the service below average. While not the entire wait staff is lousy, most of them are. The staff become especially rude as it gets busier and later and will make comments such as, ""we are busy right now so you're gonna have to wait."" While at a table, a drink order may take up to sometimes 15-20 minutes to complete. Cons: service, order time more

fun addition to Lodo 8/29/2005

great place to meet friends, enjoy assortment of ""tapas"" and wonderful wine more

SERVICE BRINGS IT ALL DOWN 7/13/2005

Service at the 9th Door was appallingly inept. We thought the food couldn't possibly make up for the lapses in service yet somehow it did just that. Asparagus with salmon was unreal, cheese plate was the most thoughtfully-prepared and presented in the city, albondigas (meatballs) were unreal, part II. Could have done without the salmon tartare - just not great but everything else was. Back to service: Waitress showed up after 15-20 minutes (after we asked if we had one at all), wine came 5 minutes AFTER the first dish was serve, plates were never cleared, the wrong wine was served...waitress was nice but just completely clueless and spent so much time lingering and chatting (sitting down with) certain tables that she just wasn't taking care of business. Support staff was equally slow and unaware. Service was infuriating but I'd go back for the food and the surprisingly quiet/sound-absorbing atmosphere. Pros: atmosphere, food Cons: service, service, service! more
