Editorial review from Citysearch 7/13/2012

This week I went to both this one and their ""sister"" cafe on Dougherty Ferry. This one was closed/locked when I got there a half hour before they were supposed to be closed. The cafe door was unlocked but when I went in, I was informed that they closed an hour before their closing time, and that the other location should have called ahead to check that for us! more

Our Family's Favorite Restaurant. 5/10/2012

Good food - good service - great portions - friendly atmosphere. The only ""less-than-perfect"" meal I've ever had has disappeared from the menu (I didn't say anything!). My wife's favorite is the crab stuffed steak medallions. Mine is the tutto mare. But occasionally we branch out for new experiences. more

Best steak & pasta in St Louis 11/15/2011

This is our most favorite places in St Louis of all, we go here for every special occasion we want to celebrate and have never had bad service and have spoken to the owner on several occasions! more

Frustrating experience 7/5/2011

The evening started out OK. We were seated quickly. The waiter was not the friendliest person I've ever had. Then when the food was brought out, I discovered I was brought the wrong dinner! Of course it took a while to get his attention to bring me out the correct dinner. Food was good, but it took over 25 minutes after we were done eating to pay for our meal. I went to the waiter to let him know we were done and in a hurry to pay, and it stll took 20 minutes to finalize payment (as we were charged for a salad we didn't order). So, wrong food, charge for something we didn't order and it took way to long to settle our bill, making for a very frustrating experience. more

Terrible Service! 1/3/2011

My friends & I (party of 7) met after work for a small Christmas gathering. Several of us arrived a bit after the rest of our party & we had to go to the bar ourselves to order our drinks because our waiter couldn't be bothered to check back on our table. When he took our orders, his attitude was nothing short of just plain snotty. There are many other restaurants in the area where I'm sure we will received much better treatment. For our next outing, we will head to one of those instead. more

Delicious food and great service. 11/26/2009

I love the friendly atmosphere. It’s the only place in St. Louis I know where the owner comes and shows you great hospitality. You always get good portions and the food is excellent. I recommend the Chicken Parmesan or the Steak Modega. If you don’t know good Italian food stay at the Olive Garden but come to Nicoletti’s if you want the real deal. Pros: Great Italian food with huge portions more

Worst Dining Experience of my life!!! 7/22/2009

I have never written an online review before but I feel compelled to do so in this case. I am not a food snob but Nicoletti's was the most overpriced (my meal was $25), disgusting food I have ever eaten. I had heard rave reviews about this restaurant and the place always seemed to have lots of cars in the parking lot, so I thought it would be a safe bet. My friend ordered the special (prime rib) and I had the chicken speideni. My speideni was at least somewhat edible...her prime rib was disgusting. It tasted like canned meat and appeared to have been microwaved?? The bread was terrible, the salad was mushy, and the pasta tasted worse than Chef Boyardee. I considered refusing to pay for the ""meal"" but the staff were so curt that I decided it best to just be through with the meal and get out as soon as possible. Perhaps this restaurant was good in the past and I just visited on an off'-night, but based on some of the reviews I have read, it looks like it is par for the course. Diner beware! And believe me, I will never take dining advice again from the folks at work who raved about this restaurant. What a disappointment. I wish I could give Nicoletti's negative stars. Pros: Close to home/convenient location Cons: Everything else more

TOP NOTCH RESTAURANT, ACROSS THE BOARD!!! 3/14/2009

If possible, I'd give Nicoletti's TEN stars! Not sure what the negative reviews are referring to, since every time we go the owner comes to the table to welcomes us and chat for a few moments. Every time we visit Nicolleti's, our favorite place to dine on special ocassions, we leave satisfied, happy, and VERY full. Everyone we refer has raved about the experience. I can't speak for others who may be accustomed to mom or dad plopping the supper down on the table, but if I'd grown up eating this kind of culinary treat every night... I'd be a fattie! Pros: Filet Mignon Stuffed With Crab Meat is AWESOME!!! Cons: Honestly can't think of one. SO worth dining there! more

ZERO STARS FOR THIS ONE 9/26/2008

Food was not very good and the service was horrible! We tried to get help from the manager but he was very defensive and aggressive. We all at our table of eight voted he was inebriated and laughed it off. We were told by another table that was having the same problems that that was the owner! In these tough times, how does a place that treats customers like garbage stay in business?\r \r Cons: TREAT CUTOMERS POORLY more

Best Lasagna I've EVER HAD! 7/8/2008

My family and I LOVE Nicoletti's and have never had a bad experience there. The food is amazing and no one we take there is ever disappointed. I almost always order the lasagna because it is THE BEST I have ever had but anything with red sauce at Nicoletti's is great. I love the sweetness and flavor of the sauce. Another one of our favorites is the Tutte Mare (seafood pasta with cream sauce). We have also had the Canelloni, pizza and a couple of the chicken dishes, all of which were very good. They give very generous portions of most entrees which usually provides for leftovers or makes it possible to share a meal. Their salads are also amazing. Kind of a typical, basic Italian salad but very good. I can't comment on their steaks, but when I eat Italian I don't go for the steaks. For me, good Italian means good sauces and they definitely have that here. The ONLY complaint I have about the restaurant is that their ""non-smoking"" section doesn't seem to be inforced. There have been numerous times we've been to the restaurant and had to request to be seated in the back room because of smokers towards the front. The back room has always been smoke free and a nice area to sit in. Pros: Awesome Food Cons: Non-smoking section often has numerous smokers more

Sydney and Howard 6/16/2008

I can't believe anyone thought this restuarant was poor quality. My family and I have been coming here for over 10 years and have never had a bad meal or bad service. We had our son's wedding rehearsal here and 22 out of 30 people at filets and raved about them. Mike Nicoletti saw to it that the steaks were premium and the wait staff was very attentive. We have taken out of town guests who also said the food was superb. Just wanted readers to know that not everyone has had a bad experience. Pros: Food was superb Cons: sometimes a little dark more

VERY UPSETTING 3/12/2008

Menu is over-priced and food is not very flavorful. Service was horrible and when we complained our food was taking too long (45 minutes) , a man came to our table and was a total a**. I mean this guy made a scene. I was told that this guy was the owner. HOLY COW - CHASE CUSTOMERS AWAY!!! Folks in the area were embarrassed by his behavior. If this guy was the owner, he was either a j*rk or drunk (or both). \r \r I sure wish I read the City Search reviews before I went here. Looks like other folks were unhappy. Pros: ZERO Cons: VERBAL ABUSE BY THE MANAGER/OWNER more

CANNED SPAGHETTI SAUCE 2/9/2008

Nicoletti's is just plain bad. Our dinner experience was horrible from the poor service to the bad food. My pasta was cold and I swear the red sauce was Chef Boy-Ar-Dee. As least my Chef Boy-Ar-Dee at home is warm. \r \r I will never ever go back. Pros: NICE LOCATION Cons: BAD FOOD! more

NEVER EVER AGAIN 1/26/2008

This restaurant has really gone downhill since our last visit. It was our 6-month anniversary and wanted to celebrate somewhere a little nicer. First of all, the service was terrible. My boyfriend asked for his steak well done. After waiting over 40 minutes, his steak came out bloody in the middle. The place was not even crowded so why did it take so long??? You hear horrors stories about sending food back. My boyfriend's steak came back burnt to a charcoal texture and had pieces of something on it. We think they chef through it on the floor than burnt it crisp. We told our waitress and she went on to get very snotty and said we asked for it well done that that's what we got! Never ever again. Pros: CLOSE TO HOME Cons: BAD BAD BAD more

Not Recommended 12/24/2007

This was top worst restaurants of all time. Wait staff was rude and food took forever to come out. The steaks were burnt and the salads were wilted and soggy. We complained (mildly) to our waitress and the owner came over to our table and instead of being hospitable, he was a the total opposite of nice. I think he was drinking because he was sluring his words. How this dump stays open is beyond me. With all the great choices of restaurants in this area, I would recommend to stay away from this one. \r \r This is a first for me but I would give it zero stars if that were a choice. Pros: GREAT LOCATION Cons: BAD FOOD. UNFRIENDLY STAFF more

Unexpected 10/27/2007

St. Louis ""city"" folks tend to think they have all of St. Louis' ""city neighborhood"" Italian restaurants. They don't. Nicoletti's is in a strip mall in Manchester in West County, but they are definitely a St. Louis Italian restaurant. Nicoletti's has been ""our"" local neighborhoods' Italian restaurant for more than 20 years and has many very loyal customers. It's not fancy, but it's comfortable enough. It's a little noisy and crowded, as another reviewer noted, but it's not over the line. In fact, just the right amount of noise allows for private conversation. \r \r We usually try to get a reservation if we're going on a Saturday night, or we go early (before 6:45.) The service is always good and prices are quite reasonable. \r \r The menu is nicely varied and they have a couple of very good signature dishes. They do a wonderful eggplant Parmesan and their steak is good. I usually love their very rich linguine tutta mare (although last time we were there the pasta was overdone. That's the first time, though.) The salads are uninspired, but sufficient. My spouse loves what they do with shrimp and we have also enjoyed their veal. When I order a dinner (rather than a pasta) I always, always ask for their Italian potatoes as a side (rather than the pasta) which are a wonderful concoction of potatoes, onions, olives and garlic, rich with other good things. So yummy. If there are leftovers (it's a generous portion) they can be cooked up with eggs for Sunday breakfast. \r \r It's a good, solid St. Louis neighborhood restaurant out in St. Louis County. Come on over. Pros: Good Italian food, simple and comfortable atmosphere, good service and good value Cons: Not fancy or pretentious - is that a ""con""? more

The Red Sauce 2/18/2006

""The Red Sauce"" is like My Grandmother made a it was little sweet. This sauce just puts the sauce on the hill to shame. You will be looking for anything you can find bread, more appetizers to finish it off. The owner and the staff are friendly and very professional. One of the best overall dinning experiences in St. Louis. When I was finished I still walked out with plenty in my wallet after feeding four. more

Title 8/11/2002

Small, a little crowded, a little noisy, like any good Italian restaurant should be. Good food, reasonably priced. more
