St. Louis ""city"" folks tend to think they have all of St. Louis' ""city neighborhood"" Italian restaurants. They don't. Nicoletti's is in a strip mall in Manchester in West County, but they are definitely a St. Louis Italian restaurant. Nicoletti's has been ""our"" local neighborhoods' Italian restaurant for more than 20 years and has many very loyal customers. It's not fancy, but it's comfortable enough. It's a little noisy and crowded, as another reviewer noted, but it's not over the line. In fact, just the right amount of noise allows for private conversation. \r

We usually try to get a reservation if we're going on a Saturday night, or we go early (before 6:45.) The service is always good and prices are quite reasonable. \r

The menu is nicely varied and they have a couple of very good signature dishes. They do a wonderful eggplant Parmesan and their steak is good. I usually love their very rich linguine tutta mare (although last time we were there the pasta was overdone. That's the first time, though.) The salads are uninspired, but sufficient. My spouse loves what they do with shrimp and we have also enjoyed their veal. When I order a dinner (rather than a pasta) I always, always ask for their Italian potatoes as a side (rather than the pasta) which are a wonderful concoction of potatoes, onions, olives and garlic, rich with other good things. So yummy. If there are leftovers (it's a generous portion) they can be cooked up with eggs for Sunday breakfast. \r

It's a good, solid St. Louis neighborhood restaurant out in St. Louis County. Come on over.
Pros: Good Italian food, simple and comfortable atmosphere, good service and good value
Cons: Not fancy or pretentious - is that a ""con""?
