Worst

I've been to Nicholas restaurant half a dozen times and came to realize over the last few visits that the service stinks. Some of their food is good but my dessert was a pile of ...

Wonderful 1/1/2006

A great place for vegans, meat eaters, and everyone in between. The lentil soup is the best thing ever. Pros: great food, prompt service, great menu Cons: small, crowded more

Best Baba ganoosh for your buck 10/27/2005

I'll keep it short and simple, you just can't beat this place for your basic eastern food. Fresh bread, home made hummis, baba ganoosh, it's all fantastic! The only thing and I mean the ONLY thing that I would change is their salad dressing and that's a personal choice. Pros: cheap, fun, food Cons: parking more

Good Lebanese 10/15/2005

Not the best in town, by any stretch of the imagination, but still quite good. The service is very quick, though it can take forever to be seated. The constant supply of fantastic hot fresh pita bread is a plus. The prices are decent, but more than compensated by the huge portions. The meats are all excellent, though the chicken was over spiced. The rice, on the other hand, was over cooked in what tasted like instant chicken broth. There are often things that are off the menu, so have a second option in mind. The inside decor is awful, and eating outside (next to a garage) is hardly fun, but the people are so pleasant that it helps make up for it. Pros: hot fresh pita bread, service, quantity of food Cons: decor, lousy al freso dining, wait to be seated more

Amazing Lebanese food! Incredibly friendly service! Great for families and quick, casual meetings. more

The best med. food in the city! 8/6/2005

Nicholas is easily the best Mediterranean restuarant in the city because it is so good. The place is almost always a mob scene though so I would reccomend takeout if you want to eat quickly. Still, there are few places that are more worth the wait for food that never misses hitting the mark. I particularly love the Gyros, Lebanese Pizza, Hummus and frankly just the plain pita. Also, its cheap as hell, so why are complaining? Pros: Wonderful food, Fresh ingredients, Low prices Cons: Parking, Wait to be seated, Not the most ornate more

These guys put the pep back in my step 5/20/2005

I love this place. The wait can be daunting, but go on a Sat. afternoon, noone is there. The food is amazingly delicious. Our faves are the lamb platter and all the mezza selections. Fun to take someone new there. Our kids love the fresh pita bread. Service can be a little slow at times, but it's well worth the wait. Pros: Delish Food, Great Prices, They remember us :) Cons: parking is a pain, crowded, long wait more

It doesn't get any better 3/14/2005

This is the best restaurant in Portland and it's even better because so few people know of it. It's worth wait outside to eat in this little gem! Bring a group of friends, pick a few entrees out and enjoy them together! I'm moving soon and I will miss Nicholas, it's wonderful food, atmosphere, music, and service. Thanks for the great memories!! Pros: FOOD!!!, Friendly service, Atmosphere more

Lots of vegan and veggie food! 2/27/2005

Nicholas' has the best falafel and hummus in town. The vegan mezza is only 7.50, and it comes with way more food than I can eat: hummus, falafels, a vegan tzatziki-ish sauce, stewed garbonzo beans, lentils and rice topped with carmalized onions and all the pita you can eat! I love to eat here, though I ordered take-out once and they forgot one of the bags of food (unfortunately it was the vegan bag) but this has never happened to my friends that get take-out a lot. P.S. they don't take cards, cash or check only. Pros: vegan food, atmosphere, coffee Cons: tiny, long wait more

One word Wonderful!!!! 1/11/2005

This is one of my favorite places to eat. I have told everyone one I know about Nicholas' and they have all been more than impressed. I highly recommend the lamb Yummy! When you go just remember to be prepared to wait for a table, but believe me this place is well worth the wait. Oh and don't park in the lot next to them you will get towed. Pros: food, service, inexpensive more

Worth the Wait 10/11/2004

The wait is often long and extends outside but the food is so tasty, you forgot you had to wait for it. The hummos is wonderful as is the kifta kabab. The Mezzas are a great value and offer a lot of variety. The service can be slow when super busy but its a casual place and you should expect that. If you are like Middle Eastern food, you will like this place! Pros: Great food , Inexpensive more

veggie mazza 7/19/2004

A group of 4 other people and I ate at Nicholas' Restaurant before going to a show at Imago theater. I ordered the veggie mazza plater as an appitizer. Homemade pita like bread as big as the table was brought out and paired well with the hummus. I liked the mazza platter better then the veggie kabas. Very busy restaurant! Ladies, watch out for when you step out of the small restroom. I can't wait to go back to try something new! Pros: vegan food, delicious, inexpensive more

great value 7/8/2004

Nicholas's is a great value all around. It is rare to find a reasonably priced meal that fills you up the way they do. I have a friend who moved out of town and it's my job to scout new restaurants for when she comes to visit. I brought her to Nicholas's. When she went back home she dreamt about it till her next visit. more

Great Food 1/30/2004

We've eaten here a few times and always love it. The pita bread is the best (baked in old oven), desserts excellent. Can't beat the value for the price, not fancy but diversified crowd. Pros: Inxpensive, Great food Cons: , Location more

Worth every mile! 1/20/2004

My husband and I drive from Hillsboro for the wonderful food and it is worth every mile! The staff is friendly( going out of their way to make my baby happy) the food is incredible! And we have food for 2 more meals for a cheap price. We have tried other more expensive Lebonese restaurants and the food has not matched Nicholas's! Keep up the good work! The only suggestion I have is to use all white meat on the kabobs...but it is still delicious! Pros: inexpensive, great value, scrumptious Cons: parking is difficult, very busy more

Big vote for cheap eats 6/25/2003

Start with the peach drink, yummy! I don't recommend the ""Stephen's Specialty"" beef dish. The chicken kabobs were scrumptious, rice was excellent. Spinach Pie was good, not great. The vege or beef platters are the way to go. The dessert with pistachio and honey is highly recommended, but not the other specialty sweet treat. Value and portions are unmatched. Pros: chicken kabab, peach drink, honey dessert Cons: stephens beef more

You're in luck 6/18/2003

The only disappointment I have associated with this restaurant is that I lived in Portland for two years before I discovered it. Don't let this happen to you! You know a restaurant is good when the owner is not above busing tables and pouring water. He wants you to have a good time, and you will! Pros: Good food, awsome drinks, nice people Cons: can get really busy, 'cuse it's good more

Nice place, Great food 4/10/2003

The food is plentiful, the prices are reasonable, and the decor is cute. Definitely will return to this middle eastern restaurant. Pros: Great food, Reasonabl prices Cons: Closes too early more

Really Good Food 3/1/2003

Wow. Truly amazing food. On their menu they say everything is made by hand with no shortcuts. It tastes like that. Healthy, Fast, Inexpensive food. How can you go wrong with warm freshly baked pita bread and some humas for $3.95. Pros: take-out, inexpensive, fresh Cons: parking, busy more

The Best in Town 1/29/2003

Nicholas' Restaurant is one of the best places to eat in Portland. You get a lot for your buck! Pros: Great, cheap, authentic Cons: small more

sturdy, cheap, reliable 1/21/2003

food this cheap is hard to make this consistently. they do a great job keeping to their standards at a high volume and low prices. way too often, vegan food in portland is nothing but shameful and disgusting. here, it's natural and delicious. the ongoing redecoration of the space is always interesting. who doesn't like a place where you see people working hard? if you are venal, you might find this place a little crusty; shame on you. Pros: consistent, real more
