I just found this place, even though they have been there for years. It is right next to my new place of work. I moved out of NY 15+ years ago and all about gave up on finding a...

NY Bagel, it is not 9/2/2008

As far as NC bagels are concerned these are OK. I moved here from Brooklyn about 3 months ago and to compare these bagels to NY bagels is a total joke. Believe me, they are nothing like real NY bagels. These so called NYers that are raving about these bagels must be from Long Island where you can't get a decent bagel either, but they think they're good. I'm not sure of their baking process, but to bake authentic bagels you first have to par boil them and then bake them. If they are not making them that way, then it's a totally different animal. Never mind not using NY water, which has a distinctive taste. I knew it immediately, even before I bit into one that they were different. They were about half the weight of a real bagel. They were light and fluffy. NY bagels are a little weighty and dense. Glad to see they have Boars Head products though. I also had a black and white and a few danish, all were very good. Anyway, I thought I finally found a decent bagel shop judging by the reviews but the search will have to continue. Never mind trying to find a good bialy. Pros: Boars Head products, home made foods Cons: not authentic NY bagels more

Wonderful food! 8/19/2008

These are the best bagels I have EVER eaten! I love the toasted poppy seed with cream cheese. I've also eaten their deli sandwiches on croissants (Tommy's new butter croissant) and they are awesome, too. For my sweet tooth, I have fallen in love with the blueberry danish. Delicious! They are usually very busy no matter what time I go, but they move through the orders quickly, efficiently and are friendly. Something for everyone! Pros: Service, Food Cons: Parking more

Great bagels and friendly service! 6/2/2008

Wow! Tommy is the best bagel maker. He is nice and has a good heart, which makes the bagels taste even better. We recommend this place for anyone who likes slammy bagels and pastries. YUM! Thanks for the great bagels Tommy! Pros: Great friendly service! Cons: Put more jalapenos in the japapeno bagels and they will be even better! more

Homemade Half Moon (Black & White) cookies 12/31/2007

We call them Half Moon cookies upstate (Black & Whites downstate) but these are the real deal! It took me forever and a day to find a legitimate bakery here in the triangle that makes fresh Italian bread and half moon cookies. All the pastries here are great and I highly recommend this little bakery. I have not tried the bagels yet but have heard they are fantastic. Pros: Half Moon Cookies (Black & Whites), fresh Italian bread more

Best Bagel and Challah outside of NYC! 8/2/2007

What can we say other than this place is a gem! We get our monthly supply of bagels early on Sunday morning. The bialies are phenomenal, get it with egg, cheese, and pastrami for a taste of heaven! The Super Cinnamon is better than any cinnamon roll. Their challah literally melts in your mouth. The bagels freeze well and are delicious with just 30 secs in the microwave and then toasted. My father-in-law is a picky New Yorker but will allow us to serve NYBD's bagels when he visits! (This says A LOT.) The place gets packed so be prepared for a line but it is worth every sec spent waiting. Pros: Food, service, price Cons: limited seating for dining more

Best Bagels in the Carolinas 3/18/2007

As a native New Yorker now living in North Carolina I can easily say NYBD serves up the best bagels in North or South Carolina!!! I cover both states as a software sales representative and whenever I am in the Triangle I will go out of my way to get my bagel fix. The sandwiches are huge and for you true New Yorkers their Black & White cookies are awesome. more

great bagels, everything from scratch! 2/5/2007

bagels are amazing (and hot if you go in the early morning), service is wonderful, owners are always there and super friendly, sandwiches are HUGE and everything is from scratch. go on weekends for GREAT homeade italian bread!! reuben and canollis (made to order) are my favorite! Pros: homeade everything, NOT A FRANCHISE!!!! Cons: not enough seating when it gets crowded more

Best Bagels in the Triangle. Family run and NOT a franchise and it shows with the quality of the food. 1/15/2007

Awesome. Sandwiches are huge, fresh and top notch. Bagels are better than anything else in the Triangle, made from scratch. And you have to try some of the pastries. Pros: Fresh, made from scratch, NOT a franchise. more
