The only way to do Tabaq Bistro is if you can snag a table on the rooftop. The view is fun and it's a quainter version of W Hotel's P.O.V. Don't bother looking at the menu - just treat yourself and have your server make recommendations. The staff is very knowledgeable and will pair a bottle of wine with your table's tapas. Definitely a fun place while the weather is still warm. more

Tabaq is one of those places that you may not notice unless you're planning on going there...so you should plan to go there!\r \r Set in a converted rowhouse on U St. (and RIGHT off the 13th street Metro exit), the tapas restaurant offers mediterranean fare, fruity martinis and a breathtaking view of DC. Recently they added raw oysters to the menu, and Tuesday through Saturday Tabaq hosts a happy hour in their Red Room (main floor) from 5-8 p.m. \r \r My advice? If dining during the week enjoy the happy hour then move to the roof for dinner. The ambience is romantic and doesn't usually get so loud that you can't hear your dining partner talking. And the calories you'll burn hiking to the top will allow you an extra order of Tahini Eggplant! (Also try Dolma and Kibbeh. Don't ask me how to pronounce any of the names -- just eat them!) The cost of cutting and serving a birthday cake at Tabaqâ?¦.$46 dollars!! This after 20+ of us drank for two hours at the bar and another 15+ remained for dinner on what would have been a dead night for the restaurant. Had we agreed to this fee? Most certainly not, because on principle alone a $16 cake should not cost three times its cost to serve! And their ever so customer friendly response to our dispute, a huge nothing! So to Tabaq we say, we hope the $46 was worth losing our future business, because the experience definitely left a bad taste in our mouths. more

Quite possibly one of the most overpriced restaurants in town. While the food is above average, the prices are on par with top restaurants in the area that offer much better food quality and service. Their wait staff were distracted and their attention was so rare that it had to be requested. On the night of our second (and last) visit, they offered a reduced menu; in spite of the reduced number of options, the food took 40 minutes to arrive, event though the restaurant was far from full. After receiving poor and slow service the bill presumptuously included (not suggested) a 20% tip for a party of 2, with space for additional tip; simply laughable if it weren't just rude. more
