Best

I recently returned from Shanghai, China. The food at New Peking is great, can't tell the difference.

Editorial review from Citysearch 10/13/2012

I live in the area, and prefer this to the nearby 'Kittys'. If you like spicy, I would recommend Kung Pao Chicken, also called princess chicken or Red Pepper Shrimp. I love Chinese cuisine, and have found nowhere around with this quality. For a non-spicy dish, I totally recommend the Shrimp in cream sauce.. though it is a bit sweet to my taste, it is addicting and worth the trip. The egg drop soup is made with tofu, and though it is a bit bland, there is no added MSG, which I prefer. Another great find here is the spicy seafood soup.. it is yummy. Though some may like the Almond Chicken, the chicken seems dry to me, and their gravy relatively flavorless; just not my cup of tea. Also, their egg rolls are nothing out of the ordinary; I think they are pre-made, rather than made fresh. All in all, this is a restaurant I will frequent when I crave Chinese, though, I don't stray from these 'regulars' that I have commented on. more

BAD BAD BAD 5/19/2011

I am new to the area and asked people I knew where I could get some good Chinese, well only one person I asked eats Chinese and said to go here, her 8 year old son didn't agree with her and I should have listened to him. I love Almond Chicken but this was the worst I have ever had. The chicken was soggy and had no real flavor to it and the gravy was (if thats what you really want to call it) was a brown gravy that too had no flavor but absolutely loaded with salt!!! I normally LOVE my leftovers but these went straight to the garbage can. I should have known when my take out was ready in 5 minutes. Don't waste your time and especially money!!!! I HAVE to rate it but believe me it isn't worth a 1. more

Worst Chinese Food I've EVER Had 4/13/2011

My brother and I took my mom here last night and I was hopeful after seeing the packed parking lot and hearing the positive reviews. I was heartily disappointed and frankly shocked by the amount of people who write glowing reviews of this utterly mediocre restaurant. I haven't been to China, but if this is what "authentic" Chinese food is like there, I'll pass. My favorite 'Chinese' restaurant is Sze Chuan in Canton, and this meal came no where near the quality and flavor of Sze Chuan. more

We love this restaurant. we have a home now is florida also and still havent food chinese food that compares to New Peking! In fact we dont even bother going to any other chinese restaurants anymore because there is no comparison. more

BEST CHINESE FOOD IN MIDWEST!!! 9/3/2010

I have been going to this place since I was 12 yrs old. Very friendly staff owners are just great people. Now comes the food OMG everything I have eaten here is just amazing. There dishes are top Notch, from the appetizers to main entrees SIMPLY AMAZING!! I live 65 miles away from here now and I still make it at least once a month for the food. Hot and sour soup, egg rolls, steamed dumplings with the spicy sauce, Hunan Chicken, Yen King chicken, Phoenix chicken, shrimp with lobster sauce and pea pods, Chicken Fried rice crab Rangoon, ect everything here is great. more

Pay attention to the low reviews... 5/4/2010

Went to this place thinking the poor reviews were people who didn't like "different" or "authentic" based on other reviews. Well... if school cafeteria style frozen carrots/peas in MULTIPLE dishes is what's authentic, I must be sorely mistaken in my views on authenticity. Food wasn't horrible, but definitely was not great, or even good. General's chicken not only tastes different than general (excuse the pun) General Tso's chicken, it doesn't taste like much at all. Bland brown sauce saved only by good blend of fresh broccoli, dried peppers, etc. Every other dish, though (soups, house specialties like their spicy shrimp) is full of peas and carrot chunks right out of a bag of frozen vegetable mix. Sauces are overly sweet or bland (one shrimp dish was somewhat spicy). Though a big selection on the menu (including Pad Thai, cocktails made with Sake, etc.), wouldn't recommend too much. Pros: Good, friendly service. Nice environment. Cons: ...Food. more

Amazing Chinese Food 11/17/2009

We drive past at least 20 Chinese restaurants to get to New Peking. It is worth the drive and every penny. Great food and service and I have never had to wait. Lunch or dinner, I highly recommend New Peking! Pros: Big portions, big menu - great tasting more

Best shrimp dishes 4/14/2009

I absolutley love the dry garlic shrip. It is sweet yet tangy and has a flavor and taste like no other shrimp dishes I've tasted. The white creamy shrimp sauce is pretty good also. I would recommend the dry garlic shrimp to anyone more

Best Chinese Food in Michigan!!! 3/9/2009

New Peking has fast service and the best Chinese food I've ever tasted, their interior is lovely and very ornately decorated with oriental flowers and Chinese art. Jasmine tea is aromatic and served in your own teapot with authentic Asian tea style cups (no handles, be careful, its hot!) Wait staff wear a uniform of crisp white shirts, vests and bow ties and are always genial. Been coming here for nearly 15 years and nothing else ever compares to them! Their menu is huge and everything always comes out hot and delicious; I definitely recommend the Mongolian Beef if you like spicy dishes! Pros: Delicious Food, Great Oriental Atmosphere, Good Prices, Fantastic Service Cons: Small Parking Availability more

Authentic Chinese Food! 8/25/2008

New Peking is a great place to eat. They have really great authentic Chinese Food. The menu is quite large - Shrimp, Fish, Chicken, Pork and Beef dishes and the portions are large and the prices low. They have a $5.95 lunch special and also dinner combos.\r \r They are located on Ford Rd and are easy to find. There is parking and the staff is friendly and quick. more

I am hungry just by hearing the name 8/9/2008

This place has been there for more than 20 years..If its not good how can it stay in business for so many years? Some of the reviewers gave one star maybe because all they know is" American-Chinese" food. I give New-Peking 5 star for food and 4 star for service.. more

authentic food experiences 7/25/2008

This is the restaurant to choose to have your dining experience in wonderful ethnic foods. Besides the wonderful choice of foods, you have a quiet dining atmosphere, very pleasant wait staff, clean facilities. I have been dining at this restaurant for many many years & it is always my first choice. The quality of the food served is well worth the charge-very reasonable..You dont need a bank loan to have a quality meal at this restaurant! more

Horrible Place! BEWARE, save ur Money! 6/22/2008

Horrible! save your money!, the food was awful, the service was poor, left hungry, if u do go here, dont say I didnt warn you! I have no idea what food these other people ate (other reviews), but this was not a good place to eat. Pros: None Cons: Food, and bad service, sometimes with good service u can look pass the food, not here more

Terrible chinese food 5/27/2008

This was by far the worst chinese I've ever had! The egg drop soup tasted like soapy water with celery flavor added in, and even worse it had a green tint instead of the normal yellow, and instead of egg there was tofu (??), carrots & peas. The pork fried rice was so greasy that you couldn't even eat it, the pineapples in the sweet and sour chicken tasted as if they had soaked in butter overnight and the general tso chicken was sweet rather than hot and spicy. We will not be recommending this place to anyone! more

Yummy, authentic Chinese food.. Great Staff.. 3/26/2008

We traveled to China two years ago, and absolutely loved the people an the food. We were so thankful to find NEW Peking, as the food here is quite tasty and very authentic (just ask for the Chinese menu.) It's written many different languages. The ladies that work there are soooo nice, and very attentive. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!\r Our other favorite place is Asian Buffet on 5 mile road in Plymouth. more

The best Chinese anywhere! 11/27/2005

I've been going to New Peking my entire life and it's consistently a great, fast, and inexpensive meal. The entree sizes are huge and can easily be split between 2 or even 3 people. I know several friends with Chinese ancestry who love New Peking above all other Chinese restaurants in the entire SE Michigan area. Contrary to the review by ggharee, the Crab Rangoons are delicious and easily the best anywhere (and so good you have to try more than one). We've converted many fans to New Peking simply based on their crab rangoons. They aren't overstuffed or sweet like many, they are savory and have a hint of green onion and garlic. They taste best fresh from the kitchen though, contrasted with takeout. One very impressive and unusual dish is the Sizzling Rice with Chicken - it's excellent with a sweet and sour flavor. Pros: Fast, Incredibly Good Food, Good for large groups more

Not impressed 7/10/2005

I was very disappointed in this meal. The crab rangoon were overcooked salty and had barely any filling. The rest of the meal was bland and there was hardly any rice. Probably one of the worst Chinese experiences I have had in Detroit. more
