These people are the scum of the earth, they prey on people when they at their most vulnerable and stressed - moving day.
Our story is similar to those listed below. We called, and were quoted the rate of roughly $285 for the move, and $75 a month to store our stuff. We were assured our stairs would not be an issue and were given instructions on how to pack our things. A man who would later be called ""the foreman"" came by, right on time and had my husband sign a contract. A contract which he continued to fill out and amend and add to as they day went by. All the while making sexist remarks, and anti-semitic remarks. One of the things we were told to do on the phone was fill our dressers with our clothing. Well, ""the foreman"" became very angry with this and told us that we had to empty them and buy their boxes to fill them with, all the while they were getting paid by the hour. These boxes cost $35 a piece for what you could get at Fedex for less than 5.
And there all of our things were, loaded onto a truck and locked and the bill came. I figured we would end up having to pay for supplies, but of course what they used cost three times that of what you would buy in Manhattan at Duane Reade. Then there was the $860 fee for the stairs, which brought the grand total to roughly $1400. ""The foreman"" said that if we wanted our things back it would be $1600 to unload, plus however long it took them ($85 an hour). We had no choice and watched our stuff drive away.
We had arranged for them to mail us the inventory of our belongings, and e-mail us the bill (they don't use ANYTHING in paper) for the storage. June came and went and no bill arrived. During July we got worried, and even though we were overseas we tried to call repeatedly and were met with either hang-ups, or straight to a full voicemail box that would not accept messages. We tried to e-mail the addresses we used to arrange the horrible move in the first place, and contact them via their website and no response. No bill came. We were really scared.
We returned and made a special trip to New York to find out what happened to our stuff. After three days of constant phone calls, two days of actually trekking out to 141 Lanza building 12 (a scary place) we finally got and a 45 minute phone call we finally got an ""invoice"" out of them, which was likely created while I was on hold. Interestingly, Kimberly Johnson, a supposed employee there, has not mastered the art of being on the phone and on the computer at the same time. Every time you call these people one of two women answer, but if you ever ask for their name they give you a different one. Even when you meet them in person and then speak to them minutes after they give you a different name.
We got our belongings out of that awful unit on our own, paid them in cash. Most of our stuff was there, a few boxes were missing, but of course we have no recourse because they never sent us the inventory list. They did not handle our stuff very well because the feet of the dressers were completely smashed and some of the boxes had been opened. Probably the only reason our stuff was still there after three months was because we had nothing particularly valuable or they were lazy. I doubt they ever had any intention of legitimately storing our belongings.
Don't be idiots like us, stay far far away from the criminals from Garfield, New Jersey. Any positive review of theirs is written by the women with the multiple names.
