The Best Indian Dinner in Portland Metro Area 11/18/2011

If you want the best Indian food in this area, come here and you'll find it. It's that simple. I have eaten here dozens of times and it is always superb. Don't be put off by the strip mall location. Inside the restaurant is beautiful, warm in winter-cool in summer, and always very comfortable with big booths and gorgeous decor. It's also shining clean. But the food, oh, the food! All the sauces taste fresh and homemade. The vegetables are perfectly cooked. The naan is delicious and sets a new standard. The chutneys have perfect balance. The rice is fluffy and aromatic. I don't usually eat meat but must make an exception for the tender luscious chicken. Servings are ample. If you don't get the mixed plate of appetizers you are a fool as this is enough food for lunch for two people next day, after you've eaten all you can at the table. Service is as good as in a five star restaurant: unobtrusive but always ready to refill glasses, take new orders etc. And the owner is a very nice, polite and welcoming man. If I lived near this restaurant I fear I wouldn't be able to resist eating here very single day. more

A Couple tasty thiings 1/7/2011

This restaurant's lunch buffets quality fails to match the ratings presented in various reviews. I couldn't rate dinner quality but, after lunch's I won't be returning. I've been to Swaggart's and India House and both are much better. Though after having been to Asia I know that both are only comparable to the hole in the wall dives down Aias's dark dank ... hold your nose ... watch your step back alleys that most of America's non-minoritys wouldn't walk down. more

Best in Portland 10/23/2010

The food here is excellent. When we moved to Portland 5 years ago from Seattle we were sad to find only a handful of Indian restaurants in town. But this one is all we need! The number is programmed into my cell phone because we pick up to take home a few times a month. more

I love Indian Food and this place is awesome! 12/7/2009

When I first went to Bombay Cricket Club, I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Nice spicy food, fabulous naan, love the rice. Then I went to New Delhi...and that was end of my love of BCC. New Dehli serves handmade food from scratch--no joke here--the head chef is the owner's wife and all the recipes come from his mother! If you want it spicier, add some peppers--they'll be happy to bring them to you. All of the staff is very friendly and makes you feel very much at home. My mom and I eat their buffet all the time and my friends and I have gone there several times for dinner. The food is always consistent and DELICIOUS!!! The only real downside: I wish they had the mixed drinks that the other, aforementioned Indian restaurant on Hawthorne has. New Delhi has only a few kinds of beer and wine. :-( Pros: Wonderful food Cons: Not so spicy; no mixed drinks more

Best Indian food in Portland... if not the world!!!! 11/23/2009

I love, love, love this place! I honestly don't know what people see in the Bombay Cricket Club.... except maybe their cocktails. If you're serious about Indian food, this is the place to go. I just learned that New Delhi is a family owned and operated, and they have a lot to be proud of. Pros: good quality, extremely friendly staff Cons: parking more

best Indian in Portland 7/22/2009

I've tried most of the Indian places in town, and this one is my favorite by far. I've been going there a few times a month for the past four years. The food is fresh and delicious. It's very clean and the buffet is kept well stocked (except the lamb dish is usually without any lamb in it; it's so good that people like me skim out the lamb and leave the sauce and potatoes behind). The service is efficient. Parking can be a pain. The spices are mild, which I like. There are condiments to spice it up if you want. Pros: food, service, cleanliness Cons: parking more

I've read some less than stellar reviews and I'm here to let you know: Pros: Easy to spot vegan items, casual atmosphere, carry out menu Cons: Hard to find the first time, parking is sometimes a pain. more

Best Indian Food in Portland! 12/10/2008

My best friend is Indian and I love her mother's cooking. This is the best I have found in Portland. The staff is always friendly and the food is always fresh. We get take-out about once a week from New Delhi. I highly recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala. Pros: Food more

Seriously? 11/13/2008

This restaurant is mediocre at best, I'm not sure if nobody posting has ever tasted good Indian food or more likely the restaurant management is ""stuffing the ballot box"" - I really can't imagine otherwise how there could be 23 positive reviews with 4 or 5 stars prior to me. I tried the lunch buffet for $8.95 and even at this price point I have gotten good Indian buffets elsewhere but this really reminded me of what fast food Indian would probably taste like. The lamb vindaloo honestly tasted like a marginal American beef stew and the curry-based dishes were slightly better but still mostly tasteless and uninspired at best. I am absolutely fine with the lack of heat in most/all dishes but PLEASE give me some flavor. Even the Naan was only marginal - I consider Naan to be like a good pizza crust, it should be very good on its own and even better when paired with other flavors. Neither delivers here. Pros: Not much Cons: Utter lack of flavor more

Great food, decent atmosphere 5/6/2008

The food and service is always great, staff always courteous, atmosphere is clean and comfortable. It's a pleasure to have such good Indian cuisine close by, usually with no wait, and easy parking. more

Don't let the outside deceive you! 5/5/2008

I read all the great reviews on Citysearch, so my son and I decided to try it, since he lives nearby and we both love Indian food. When we pulled up, I looked at him with the "" I don't know look."" But we remembered other reviewers stating not to be deceived by the outward appearance, and went in. Boy, what a treat. From the outside it looks like a cheap kinda sleazy restaurant / bar, but once you step inside you immediately feel at ease in a very comfortable place. The food and service were both exceptional. We ate much more than we meant to and rolled out of there rubbing our tummies with delight. We will definitely be back. Pros: great food and service, ample parking Cons: really weird location and ugly exterior more

Excellent Food and Service 4/5/2008

My husband and I have gone here on our lunch hour for a few years and we can't tell you when we've had better service. The food is excellent on the buffet, always stocked up, clean and tasty! Pros: Food, Service, Value Cons: Strip Mall more

Out this world Indian cuisine! 2/14/2008

Hey, if you love Indian food you have to try the New Delhi Restaurant. My wife and I love Indian cuisine and have tried every restaurant in Portland and enjoy this one the best. The food is absolutely fabulous. The service is excellent and prices are reasonable. The strip mall location is a little funky, but parking is not a problem. more

Wonderful food and service 2/4/2008

My husband and I went here based on the reviews on this site. We were extrememly happy with the food, service, portions and prices. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Lamb Saag. Both dishes were wonderful. We asked for medium spice and that's exactly what we got. Though I prefer my food on the mild side, the flavor was spicy without burning my mouth. The Naan was flavorful and freshly baked. The server recommended a perfect red wine by the glass to go with my food and it was an excellent suggestion. I highly recommed this restaurant to those that value high quality dishes and wonderful service. We can't wait to go back and taste our way through their menu. Pros: Service and food quality Cons: possible parking issues, but worth it. more

The buffet was amazing 10/26/2007

Go for the buffet, which means go for lunch. It's pretty cheap for a great meal. I actually only signed up for this just to write a review on this restaurant. The service is great, family owned. Very good Indian food. Not romantic or super high class, but kind simply elegant nonetheless. Pros: Amazing Buffet Cons: Not a lot of privacy when eating more

Most authentic and delicious Indian food ! 7/10/2007

I went to this Indian restraunt on Barbur and 30th on my friend's recommendation and I must say the food was just fabulous........ more

buffet price $7.95, well worth it 4/5/2007

After reading the reviews for this restuarant, i decided to drive my convertible on this nice bright sunny day from Tualatin to Barbur Blvd and experience the indian cuisine. Boy! let me tell you the reviews were soo right! The buffet is very affordable and at $7.95 all you can eat...there is alot to choose from. I had the Chicken, rice, pita flat bread and some veggies. I must say, i drove past it on accident because it is kind of hidden, but overall, excellene variety of dishes, cvery clean and the people are really nice and will answer any questions you have if you unfamiliar with the items for lunch. Pros: Great SERVICE!! chicken, rice, pita flat bread Cons: parking more
