Why I Make Advanced Reservations 5/15/2011

Why I make an advanced reservation. So that 3 people can sit at a table for two next to the toilets and kitchen and a few feet from a bar so crowded and so loud you can't hear the person across from you. And after surveying a sea of open tables, as well as those on other floors, being told, this is it.\r So with the ambiance of a bathroom stall in Times Square and comfort of a middle aircraft seat with the tray table down we ate. At this point the objective was simply to get out of there so we ate quickly, making a food rating unfair. Of note, there was a chocolate ganache added to an otherwise ordinary crème brulee. The service was prompt and polite and the only standout of the evening. \r When all this is mentioned to the manager who was standing by the front door as we leave, we get not so much as an apology. Simply a blank stare. We got the message and won't be back.\r more

Dont order the food. 8/31/2010

The food at this restaurant is definately not worth the price. My wife ordered swordfish and it was overcooked, dry, and the rice it sat on had the consistency of glue. I ordered calamari, which was not the greatest, and a filet with pieces of lobster covering it. The flavor of the meat was not the greatest and the potatoes on the plate appeared to be frozen. The service is fine but definately not worth the price of the food which was outrageous. I could have went to Harris Teeter and prepared a better meal myself. more

Disappointed. 8/6/2010

We ate on the rooftop deck and it was pleasant and quiet. The meal started well. The bread brought to the table was good. Unfortunately the glasses of wine were rather characterless. I ordered a sauvignon blanc and my husband ordered a red, can't remember what it was. The entrees were mixed. My husband had the lamb dish and it was almost VERY good. The meat was tender and moist, but the accompanying sauce was So salty it was almost inedible (and he likes a bit of extra salt). The yucca fritas were dry and could have used a dipping sauce to go with them. My vegetable napoleon needed another layer of mozzarella cheese and more sauce. My daughter had an attractive, salad that she enjoyed. Overall, I wish it had been better. more

quite a gem 7/19/2010

Start to finish, had a remarkably good experience here. Urban approach to dining in a rural-town setting. Great wine program, simply delicious food, wonderful atmosphere. more

The Finest in Mosby Country 5/17/2010

John Mosby would have loved this delightful restaurant on the Historic Main Street of Warrenton, VA. The food is excellent, presentation exceptional, and the portions just right. Desserts are special with many choices. The wine list leaves no voids in the offerings. ENJOY IT! more

2007 Fall Dining Guide 10/13/2007

By Tom Sietsema Washington Post Magazine Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 My favorite area wine bar isn't in Washington, but is far to the west of the city, in Warrenton. That's where you'll find the dashing new spinoff of Columbia's popular Iron Bridge Wine Company. Both restaurants are committed to the joys of the grape, with amusing categories ("I'm Thirsty" whites and "Close to Home" Virginia selections) and happy-to-pour-you-a-taste servers. These days, however, I'd give the edge to the younger place. Set on one of the prettiest main streets around, the horse-country branch opens into a long and narrow room whose walls double as wine displays and whose palette is warm in plum, copper and black (marble bar). Head downstairs, and you'll find a cozy warren of rooms begging to host private parties. One flight up from the main floor are tables ringing a balcony that peeks onto the action below. Snack-size plates dominate the menu, and your waiter is likely to (rightly) sing the praises of the shatteringly crisp duck confit nuzzled with diced pineapple, the spicy lamb sausage partnered with a soft pretzel and pickled red onion, and a trio of soups (asparagus with tangy goat cheese gets my vote) that resonate with the season. "Stop me, or I'll recommend everything," a chatty server jokes. Truth be told, ribbons of London broil get too sweet a sauce -- and the hovering waiter is such a presence that I'm tempted to ask him if he'd like to pull up a chair. "Worth the trip," a pal concludes as he finishes the last of his "Road Less Traveled" (actually, a 2005 Boutinot Cotes du Ventoux Chat-en-Oeuf) and reluctantly ends his mini-vacation from the big city. more
