Editorial review from Citysearch 7/31/2013

I am puzzled by the negative posts here. I have been seeing Dr. Chiritescu for several years. I was first referred to her by my primary care doctor to evaluate some potential skin cancer spots. I did have to wait for several weeks for my first appointment. That wait time was less than any one of the other specialists to which I have been referred as a new patient.\r \r Only once have I ever been delayed in the waiting room more than 10 minutes past my scheduled appointment time.\r \r Dr. Chiritescu has been very effective and accurate in diagnosing my skin conditions. She is well respected by the skin cancer surgeons that I have seen. They always have words of praise for her keen eye in identifying skin cancer.\r \r Without hesitation I would recommend Dr. Chiritescu to anyone looking for an excellent skin doctor.\r \r I love that I can get early morning appointments in the 6:30 to 7:30 range so I can be on my way with minimal disruption to my day. more

Rudest People Answering the Phone 1/25/2012

I don't know why I went to my appointment considering how RUDE Laurie, the person who answered the phone is. So unbelievably unhelpful and RUDE. I was given a long list of RXs that my insurance won't cover and saw the dr for five minutes (and she is very odd). Don't go. more

cancelled my appointment 6/27/2011

I was hesitant to go to Dr. C's office after reading all the reviews.I still wanted to give them a chance and made an appointment. A day before I called to find out approximately how much time it would take for the session ,since I needed to be back at work. The receptionist was very rude and unhelpful. I canceled my appointment right away. I am Glad I made a wise decision. more

Don't go there. 1/25/2011

Feedback here is inline with my experience. The one who wrote a review talking about 'short wait times' is probably another doctor..or her husband. more

UGH 12/14/2010

I would never recommend this place to anyone. The staff is incredibly rude, they make you wait forever and overall a bad experience. The first time I went I ended up waiting well over an hour and the doctor only saw me for about 10 minutes. I tried to catch her in the hall to answer a question I had after she left and was told by a nurse that I would have to wait in the waiting room for her to have an opening but that she was very busy that day and it could be over an hour. Then when I went to have some tests done, the doctor talked with the nurse as though I was not there the entire time and did not even acknowledge me. This office is filled with the rudest people I have ever encountered in a doctor's office before. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME more

New age dermatology 6/23/2010

2 of us in the family waited to see the dr. We waited for over 1 hour and the people who were called into their rooms,1 hour before us , had still NOT seen the dr. We left. No one should wait this long. On top of that, the woman who came in after us, said she had read that this was a huge draw back to coming here. I think she left shortly after us. no dermatologist is worth waiting this long for your app. especially with the prices they charge. FIND SOME ONE ELSE!!!! Pros: we waited over 1 hour with no exclamation/ no apology.. Cons: nothing! less than 1 star.... more

Long wait and horrible outcome 12/16/2009

I was referred by my family physician to Dr. C. Anyway, I had been having severe acne problem since this summer. So finally in October, I went to see Dr. C and hope she could steer me in the right direction. First I had to wait close to a month for an appointment. Then when I got there on time, I still had to wait close to 45 minutes for Dr. C to see me. She took about two seconds looking at my face and then started throwing a crazy long list of prescriptions to her RN. I ended up spending close to $200 for that list of prescriptions. After using it for two weeks, my face got even worse. I had six new severe acnes popped up on my face all at once, on top of what I still had on my face. That was terrible timing for me because I had so much PR work at the time. So while I was at the hotel, I desperately caked up those new acnes with what I have always been using to fight existing acnes - Clearasil acne treatment. Then when I got home the next night, I stopped using all that stuff prescriped by Dr. C and which I had spent so much money on. Instead, I pulled out my old Proactiv 3-step facial cleaning regimen and started using it again. Then I continued using my Clearasil to fight the tough acnes on my face. That was the darn truth. After just a week, my face start clearing up and now after a month and a half, I am pleased to tell you that there are no more new acnes popped up on my face again (knocking on wood). The acne scars on my face are also fading away. I feel so much better now. And today I called the office to inform them that I won't be coming to the follow-up which was originally scheduled for next Monday. I don't see a reason to spend another $60 co-pay for nonsense. I did ask if anyone would want to hear my reasons but they didn't even care. They just said thank you for letting them know I cancelled the follow-up appointment. So you think I will ever go back or suggest them to my friends and family? Heck no!! Cons: long wait and horrible outcome more

Short wait times 8/5/2009

I've been to Dr. Chiritescu three times in the past two months and never waited more than five minutes to enter the exam room. Once the nurse was done, it wasn't even five minutes more before the doctor entered. Perhaps New Age Dermatology has taken these reviews to heart because I find the wait times are practically non-existent! I've had pleasant conversations both about my condition, and in general, with the doctor and two nurses, and I found all to be genuinely interested. The doctor does move quickly, but I've never left feeling like I couldn't ask the questions I wanted answered. Pros: Short wait times, friendly staff more

Nothing new here really, just confirming others 7/22/2009

I'm just confirming what others have said. I've been going there for over three years and am tired of putting up with the waiting! Plus Dr. C rarely spends more that a few minutes in the room and when I ask a question her accent is very hard for me to understand. I've had a few questionable spots removed with no problem I have to admit but the rest is not worth it! Cons: long wait, rushed, lack of info more

Long Waits 3/18/2009

On average the waits are well over an hour. Even when I made the very first appointment of the day 6:30am, I sat in the waiting room for 20 minutes and the exam room for another 15. This is not due to 'unexpected treatments"". It is due to a common total disrespect for others time by the entire staff, from the doctor down. I will be freeing up my space in her waiting room. Pros: medical service is above average Cons: No respect for others time more

Long waits but good doctoring 10/1/2008

Wait time is always an issue, and even once you get in an exam room, the wait continues. Dr. C, however, has never been less than informative, pleasant, and skilled. She has biopsied several spots for me and none (on face or body) has left any kind of scar. I truly feel that the doctor knows her stuff and wants her patients to understand fully what their situations are and the reasons for the treatment she recommends. Pros: informative and skilled Cons: long wait times more

Horrific experience with Chiritescu and her entire staff. 7/10/2008

I wanted to share a surprisingly disappointing experience with Dr. Elvira Chiritescu of New Age Dermatology in Apex. I have been seeing her for years (unfortunately for me), and never had any specific problems and just needed check-ups, although I found her thorough and seemingly professional. A couple of weeks ago, I happened to go for the first time for an issue I was having. After a 75 minute wait, in the 5 minutes she spared me, she completely misdiagnosed my case, with extreme confidence no less, despite my clear explanation on my symptoms, put me on antibiotics where there was no infection, and when I called back in a couple of days complaining how the pain had not only gotten better but worse, she told me to *continue* her (wrong) treatment, and give it a few more days, AND if things do not get better, to then go to urgent care or call my physician!!!!! Pros: NONE whatsoever!!!!!! Cons: her poor medical experience, horrific wait time, misdiagnosis, and no bed side manners more

Avoid this wait room nightmare 6/10/2008

Even with an early morning appointment I have wasted so much time in the waiting room and in the exam room time and time again I seriously considered sending the doctor a bill this time. This is not an isolated occurence and mirrors what another poster has stated. If you think the airlines are bad with overbooking.... Go elsewhere. Cons: wait time, not satisfied with quality of surgical procedures (significant scarring) more

Disappointed 6/10/2008

I have gone to New Age Dermatology since they opened. Initially, you could get early morning appointments and be in and out in 15 minutes, the doctor had plenty of time to spend with you and the staff was considerate. As the practice grew, my 15 minute appoints turned into 1-2 hour appointments. There have been a few occassions of going in for a skin cancer check, sitting in the waiting room for 40 minutes, then being brough to an examining room and being dressed in a paper gown and left to wait on a table for more than 30 minutes. Pros: Can schedule appointment quickly Cons: unfriendly staff, long waiting room waits, poor bedside manner, large scars more

Dr C is the best! 9/8/2006

Malenoma is scary, but Dr. C is comforting and believes in listening to her patients! She has been great with me through all my procedures! She came recommended by Cary Skin and is well connected with UNC. Dr. C is great with kids. When my kids when for their skin checks, she made sure that they were comfortable and she explained everything that she was doing. I've repeatedly recommened her practise and will continue to do so! Pros: They are great! more
