Editorial review from Citysearch 9/1/2013

I've eaten at the Glenwood location for many years and have always found the food to be great. On my recent visit, the food was, once again, great. Our server was attentive and prompt. Sadly, the decor is the same as when the restaurant opened and is in huge need of a makeover. Please update the restaurant to appeal to today's diner. more

Lousy service, lack of manners 3/5/2011

Been there several times, and service has never been great. On one ocassion, the waiter actually mocked us as we were walking out the there. more

Solid Chinese 4/23/2010

I strongly prefer their Chinese menu and it is very fresh, inventive and the best in the area. Not so much when you go to other areas like Thai, Sushi etc. Pros: Large menu, fresh food Cons: Non Chinese food average more

Great restaurant 8/30/2009

We had dinner there a lot, regular customer for takeout as well. Great food and nice services! Pros: Nice place! more

Unresponsive Management 2/21/2009

The food is fine, and the wait staff is good. HOWEVER, during my visit the was a table with three completely out of control children who were running all over the restaurant, crawling on the floor under other patron's tables, and screaming to the tops of their lungs. When I complained to the hostess, Hondi, who identified herself as the manager/owner, she told me that as a customer it was MY responsibility to confront the oblivious moms to tell them to dicipline their kids. She also said, "They come in here all the time, and they are always like this." My response to her was that as an owner / manager of a restaurant, it is her responsiblity to look after the dining experience of all of her patrons, and if a table's behavior is disruptive to the dining experience of other patrons, it is the MANAGEMENT's responsibility to step in and take action... not the responsibility of other patrons. By not taking action, I told Hondi that it demonstrates that Neo China does NOT care about the dining experience of their patrons. She refused to take action even though other tables were also complaining and commenting on the issue, even after I asked her a second time, and she also commented that she was "afraid to say anything" to the moms of the out-of-control kids. Cons: Unresponsive Management more

Meh 10/20/2008

I'm new to the Raleigh area and was looking for a decent chinese takeout place. After reading mostly good reviews, I tried NeoChina and was disappointed. I got my usual, General Tso's Chicken, extra spicy. It was edible, but I won't get it again. It just lacked something, not very flavorful, definitely not spicy, sad overcooked limp broccoli, generally below average in my book and I'm not usually super critical of chinese food (I just want good, Americanized takeout). Of course, I can only speak for this one dish; maybe some of the chef specialties are more deserving of the great reviews listed below. Pros: Takeout ready super quick Cons: Below average food, expensive more

Blah Food 6/17/2008

I wasn't very impressed by the food. The chicken fried rice had almost no flavor. It didn't even have onions in it, or bean sprouts. My boyfriend had the sweet and sour chicken, which was okay. The sweet and sour sauce wasn't very good. I'm really not a picky eater and usually you can't screw up sweet and sour chicken. I just wasn't impressed. We might as well stick to the hole-in-the-wall take-out place by our house for better "basic" Chinese food. Pros: None Cons: Not a lot of flavor to the food more

Best Chinese Food in the Triangle! 5/25/2008

This is my favourite modest priced restaurant in NC, and I have been coming here for more than 8 years now and it simply gets better and better! The food is amazing and the service is always friendly and gracious. The staff takes a real interest in their customers and remembers my children by name (note to waitstaff: this is an awesome way to score a bigger tip!). The hostess is very kind and charming and the entire staff makes the place feel like one big family. The selection of food is wonderful, with veggie dishes and all meals can be spiced the way you prefer. One reviewer complained about the egg rolls; I have found that their veggie rolls are the best that I've had ANYWHERE! The seating is prompt and very comfortable and the prices are reasonable. This is a great restaurant to take the kids, a perfect first date, or when the realitives are in town. I simply have no complaints! As for it being "American Chinese", well, if you want "real" Chinese, you need to head to Beijing. I am half Chinese and I love the food. It's one of the best in North America and beats anything else in NC. Try it today! Pros: the food (this is the best Chinese in NC), the waitstaff, the comfort level, everything! Cons: absolutely nothing! more

Great Food and Experience 5/5/2008

Food was excellent. Great atmosphere (in shifts). Kids gone by 6:30. Elderly gone by 8:30. Mostly couples til close @ 10:30. I didn't notice smoking (other review), but had full bar. Must be well ventilated and drinks are stiff (Martini for $5). Previous reviews also spoke of bland. Don't be afraid of spicy dishes on menu. They are not over the top hot, unless you request it. Waiter was very attentive too. I plan on going back with my lady (of course)and taking some friends. Pros: All ... service, food, drinks, atmosphere Cons: Can't think of any. more

Not Good Chinese & Bad Service 2/11/2008

The egg roll was so bad I tried returning it and they wouldn't let me, saying other people ate it without complaint. It seriously smelled and tasted like r otten cabbage. My waitress was nowhere to be found for 20 minutes. The manager smelled it and told me that is what cabbage smells like. It isn't. She told me to put more sauce on it if you can believe it. The aftertaste was so bad no matter how much sauce I drowned it in I was disgusted and couldn't even finish half of it. The tofu dish I had was terrible also. The vegetables were fresh but the tofu had a sour taste to it. At first I thought it may have been a sour brown sauce (?), but then realized it was the tofu. I left it all there and didn't bother trying to return it after they wouldn't exchange the egg roll. I felt robbed when paying so much for a meal that was so bad I couldn't eat anything but the rice and broccoli. I may have given it another chance with all the wonderful reviews this place received but considering the way the manager acted and the service, I will never go back there. Pros: other people were in there eating Cons: I dont know why with bad food & bad service more

Great Chinese Food 2/10/2008

My wife has gotten a lot of different dishes and has loved them all. I tend to stick to the General Tso's Chicken which is always fantastic! Just spicy enough and the little whole peppers are great for the dish. We've always had good service, admittedly we go when it's a little quieter. Weekend nights we get take-out, which is always ready when we get there and packed up well. Their Crab Ragoon is awesome! more

Best Chinese 12/31/2007

This is a great place to eat, the food here is far better than PF Chang, the prices are very resonable. more

Average at best. 5/18/2007

The food here is pretty average. A lot of it does not have very much flavor. When I get food from here, it's usually only two items that are actually wonderful here: The egg rolls and the Subgum Wonton Soup. The egg rolls are over stuffed and yummy!! This is one of the few chinese restaurants in town that serves Subgum Wonton Soup. For those that don't know, it's basically Wonton soup with veggies and 3 meats. It's a meal in and of itself. The only downside is that it's a serving for two, but if you are like me, you can eat both anyway. Pros: Select Items are really good. Cons: Only select Items are really good. more

decent 11/17/2006

this place was ok.. over priced for the small portion size. more

Excellent food but SMOKING spoiled the fun! 10/5/2006

I loved the food (big points for not being too oily/greasy) - it was flavorful with wonderful vegetables. Ambience was wonderful; music relaxing; wall sculptures/paintings very nice. I didn't like that there was a smoking section, though - spoiled the taste of the food. Probably won't go back until they ban smoking!! Pros: Wonderful food & ambience Cons: They allow smoking, and it spoils the otherwise wonderful ambience. more

Best Chinese Restaurant in Raleigh! 3/18/2006

Love it! We have eaten at Neo China dozens of times and every meal is perfect. Never had a bad experience. Pros: Atmosphere, Prices, Quality more

Worst Food & Service 5/30/2005

The food was bland with no spice and the chicken was not properly cooked. We ordered a tofu dish. Tofu had a sour taste and had a bad smell needless to say they served stale food. We explained this to the waiter and he didn't show any concern. We had to leave the food and came back home with empty stomachs. I would never recommend this place to any one. Cons: Worst Food, No Quality, Bad Service more

bland 10/28/2003

I was served incredibly bland food - hardly a hint of garlic or ginger, but lots of corn starch. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour. Pros: nice interior Cons: bland sauces more

OK at best 9/16/2003

The food was only fair compared to all the other Chinese restaurants I've patronized in the Triangle and waiter was 'too familiar' with the customers and was almost hoping we'd leave ASAP. Cons: food, staff more
