Seemingly harmless dress code (WASN'T POSTED!) 86's you! 10/20/2009

Who would think that showing up in a "GAY-friendly" and casual club would get you booted out for wearing a GAY TRENDY/cultural bandana (white no less)?! We have gone to this place for years and years. The LAST time was several months ago when we presented at the club for a celebration. Not having ANY clue as to there being a so-called "dress code" upon arriving (none in the past), my friend is warned that she must take off her bandana if she enters. NO WHERE was there any sort of "dress code" posted outside. Feeling embarassed as now her hair was a disaster (and her lesbian pride hurt) she begrudgingly removed it and entered. While security said that she should "remove it or get out of the club" we decided it was time after a while to go - so on it went and towards the door we were heading (just like previously commanded.) Security decided to put a show on for the club as he pushed my door-bound friend several times from the back because he didn't think we were exiting fast enough. Despite the constant paranoia that is of the presumed 'gang attire' (assuming) why just pick on one item that declares to consume just THE culture/lifestyle? I appreciate and understand the club's concern for upholding safety for it's patrons and such but who gets to decide what is unsafe clothing or not?! They are going the wrong way about it. So much for freedom of my gay expression...and so much for that club. Pros: Music/people variety, cheap entry fee Cons: Not as "friendly" and "open" as it used to be! more

A fun place 6/8/2008

This is a really fantastic club. The bartenders are always friendly, the staff are always working hard to pick up empty glasses, and the DJ keeps the music going without skipping a beat. The crowd here is definitely a late night crowd so don't bother coming early unless you want the dance floor to yourself. They play mostly techno and remix with very little top 40 or anything you'd hear in other mainstream clubs. The drinks are generally good and if you get hungry, Javier sets up shop with the best hotdogs in town just at the end of the alley! My only word of warning is to girls who come in to dance with their friends. There are usually several perverts posing as gay men on the dance floor looking to take advantage of a girl who they think has been drinking. Just be careful and be sure you stay with someone you know at all times and you'll be fine! Pros: Positive atmosphere more

Empty all your pockets and assume the position 5/3/2008

Neighbours has a nice gay/mixed crowd and I have been a steady patron for 2 years but lately I look for other places to go. At the door the new security guards have me empty my pockets and turn around to be throughly searched. I have noticed that they also walk around the club looking for people to throw out. Walk funny, talk too loud or act intoxicated and you are gone with no refund and your drink emptied. It is too bad because it used to be fun now its more like a prison. Try The Cuff, Madison St. Pub or R-Place. They treat their customers with much more respect than Neighbours. Pros: Some people are gay, sometime I meet someone Cons: TOO much security, Staff treats customers like criminals more

a big enough dance floor! 4/23/2008

i have danced at this club for years. the d.j.s are great and the dance floor is a good size. ( not a postage stamp ) the assortment of patrons is wide and varied. i recommend this club highly. Cons: no coat check room anymore more

80's are Alive & Kicking On Thursday Nights! 2/15/2008

If you love Depeche Mode, New Order & Erasure - come out on a Thu. & dance the night away. You can totally be yourself. Great with a group of friends. Pros: Music & Mix of People Cons: It gets going late on a school night ;-) more

"NEIGHBOURSE" 8/31/2007

I used to live in Seattle,Wa. from july 1997 through december2004,I've first heard of Neighbourse on the year 1999 and since then have gone out to the club because of the different types of music played all through the week. I loved the DragQueen nights:Friday,Saturdays and Espescially Sunday nights which became Latino night,I met the "DIVA" herself and had a good time with her in the year 2001"La Gorda"Fucken AAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! along the nights I bumped into the prettiest Transgender people I've ever seen. They had "NICE BUTT" pretty smiles/looks,Some had real(sylicone)tits, and an open attitude. Not stuck-up like most Ts,tv's.tg's I've met over the years, the bumping and grinding made me feel good that I can express myself while dancing close to them,I love getting wet and proud of it! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND for those visiting Male,Female, gay, straight,Bi or lesbien to go and have a good time. Also to go when its happening like this sunday night the 2nd of september because its a holiday on monday and its going to be packed! since I've moved back to L.A.,Ca. all I dreamed about is going back to "NEIGHBOURSE" on a happening night one more time and it came true & I'm going to PARTY. more

Best crazy time 6/18/2007

Although I have very little club experience, seeing that I am freshly 18 and still have parents, I had a truly amazing experience at neighbors. I had just graduated, and wanted to do something crazy so I went with some of my girls and a gay friend and his friend/more than friend. At first it was really shocking, since there are definitely some colorful personalities and people there, but they are really nice if you get to talking to them. I did not like the 18+ part, because there were NO straight guys, but after 2am when the 18+ and 21+ combined, there were a few. Boy, was the 21+ crowd CRA-ZY! Not a club for conservative people...I consider myself quite open-minded and believe me, my jaw dropped more than once. Also, the people here are aggressive (asking to dance, leering and even the not-so-occasional butt grab), so take that into consideration as well. Dancing- great/crazy/crowded Drinks-can't say (too young) Guys/girls-GREAT looking guys...most gay but if you are a gay guy then this is your place. Besides my friends and I there weren't a whole lot of attractive ladies though Music-Good to dance to, but a bit too much kelly clarkson top 20 stuff, but who cares right? #They have male cage dancers! ##I went on a Saturday night Pros: Dancing, crazy time, busy, energetic Cons: Little sleezy, a few lechers more

best 80s night anywhere 2/7/2007

I went on an icey Thursday night so it didn't get too busy but I had an incredible time. The DJ has some incredible talent and did some awesome mixes without once trainwrecking. Drinks were really cheap and the crowd was friendly. I don't get the gay/straight debate here on this page. What difference does it make. As long as the gay party goers don't mind a couple of us straight folks there, I quite enjoy going. Pros: great 80s night Cons: none more

80's night was fun 1/17/2007

I moved to Seattle under a year ago and haven't found any good clubs yet. I saw this club called Neighbors in Seattle Weekly that had an 80's night on Thursdays, so I went..... not knowing it was a gay bar. Even as a straight male, I had an awesome time. The people were friendly, the music was good, and there were several attractive straight women there also. I will go back for sure. Pros: it was fun, and having fun was the reason I went out Cons: I am straight and the thought about the women being gay or straight is always there in my mind more

Best Saturday night people watching 10/13/2006

There isn't a better plac e in Seattle to spend a Saturday night/ Sunday Morning! Friendly bartenders mixing fair drinks. DJ's who spin the perfect set and LUMINESCENT GO GO BOYS who enjoy being the center of attention. more

User review by ryko 5/10/2006

This is the "gay" bar that refuses to die. The music is top-40, the crowd is often mostly straight, and the decor leaves much to be desired. Last time I was there it felt like an episode of "Girls Gone Wild". And could they PLEASE take down those awful metal awnings on Broadway? The place looks like a shanty. Skip this place and head to Sugar, where the owners actually care about the business and their customers. Cons: Bad music, Bad crowd, Dirty more

Great Place! 3/5/2006

Ok...so there is a lot of gay vs. straight here on these reviews. As a gay man, I say who cares! No matter what people say...Neighbours is predominantly gay...especially after midnight. You will see bachelorette parties and the straight couples, but generally everyone gets along. Straight people who don't like gay people won't go to a gay bar! I always have fun here, select bartenders are awesome (David and Mickey) check the website for their photos. You smile at them they smile back, and hand you a strong drink. You flip them attitude and you get water...same as ALL bars. Be nice to your bartenders!!!!! The dj's are great too. If you request something they will usually play it, if you tip them they almost always play it. Neigbours...Love ya' mean it! Pros: Good Drinks, After-hours, Great music more

Still Loving Neighbors! 1/2/2006

I have been going to Neighbors for years and I always have a good time there! I know nowhere else that I can say that about! Pros: Fun, Fun, Fun, Good Drinks!, Nice people! Cons: Crowded Sometimes, I drink too much! more

This is why I don't dance in straight bars 9/28/2005

I've been in Seattle only a few years and I've been to neighbours half a dozen times recently. I've always had a lot of fun dancing there and its usually a good vibe. Honestly I had to stop going because the last 2 times I went with my girlfriend we got thoroughly annoyed by multiple slimy guys pawing us. We are not oversensitive but after trying the cold shoulder, giving the evil eye once or twice, and overtly saying "please leave us alone" you'd expect a guy to take the hint. This is not something two lesbians should have to put up with in a gay bar. Please bring the gay boys back! I have nothing against straight people or men in general and I know that many women dance together to get attention in straight bars, but some semblance of basic manners would be nice. more

STAFF SUCKS 7/23/2005

I was out to have a good time and my parade was rained out. Tha staff sucks more

a good time not yet had by all 6/14/2005

I'm a small girl and not trained in any useful self defense so the idea of a club scene scared me. So this past friday I'm sitting with my friend Brian and his boyfriend Evan and telling them my plight. Love to dance hate the clubs out there. And thus my trip to Neighbours was created. I was able to dance the night away not afraid of what might happen to me nor what people thought of me. And the best part? Brian and Evan were able to party down like the normal, wonderful people they are. I felt comfortable, they felt comfortable and the music was great too! more

THE BEST!! 9/25/2004

I've been to Neighbors over a dozen times in the last few months and I've NEVER NOT had a good time. That place rocks like no other! Everyone is there to have a good time, not sit around and stare at each like other clubs. You can go there and dance the night away!!! Pros: GREAT atmosphere! more

Fun for Everyone! 7/6/2004

Neighbours is a blast. I love going there! Great people and fun times all night long! Pros: Afterhours, Atmosphere, Staff more

  • In Short
Every city has one: The disco that just won't die. Few in the gay community will admit to having a bruised affection for it, but it somehow continues to succeed where others fail. This glorified warehouse is alive with young club boys, their female friends, the city's best drag queens and curious straight folks out for a walk on the wild side. It is, for better or worse, what most people imagine a gay bar to be like.
