Myers Real Estate

I just finished renting from Myers for three years. DO NOT RENT FROM MYERS REALTY. Every time I had to call their main number, I got off the phone extremely frustrated. Office staff was consistently rude and unhelpful. They were reluctant to help in any way. For example, when I discovered I had a mouse problem, I bought and set traps and trapped several mice. Myers refused to send someone to dispose of the mice because I "used my own traps." They actually claimed they could have helped dispose of the mice if I had called them from the beginning so they could use their own traps! I knew at the time it was total BS, that I was just being blown off. As I said, I just finished my lease there. When I chose not to renew, I even called the office to see if there was anything specific I needed to do. They told me that all I had to do was NOT sign send in the lease addendum they had sent to me. So that's what I did. Months later, when I had about 2 weeks left in my apartment, they called and asked if I was re-signing. I said "NO", and they asked me to put it in writing. I just got my security deposit back, and they took $190 out of it because I didn't give them 30 days notice that I was not renewing my lease. Even though I talked to them on several occasions about not renewing, they never told me to put anything in writing until it was too late. Obviously, a little courtesy on their part would have gone a long way. But you will not get courtesy from Myers. I would never, ever, EVER recommend that a friend or family member rent from Myers. more

I rented a 1 BR/BA from Myer's Real Estate from February 2011-July 2012. I read some rather negative reviews of the agency before moving, but I was anxious to live in Grandview, and they had the perfect property for me. Throughout my experience with Myer's, I have to say that I was quite impressed with them in almost every aspect. The rent was very fair for the area and size of the apartment, and the pre-rental procedure, while as arduous as with any agent, was handled very courteously and professionally. While in the apartment, there were some mechanical problems that occurred, mostly due to the age of the property. The water heater broke down, the disposal had to be reset and there was a leak in my kitchen sink plumbing. All three issues were both significant AND taken care of within 24 hours of my reporting the issues on their website. The water heater repair in particular was reported at 8pm and was fixed before I got home from work the next day at 5pm. Some other reviews had mentioned impolite staff members in the office or on their maintenance team, but I had no such interaction with any such employees; they have all been ultra professional and very polite and nice. This is a great organization that I trust and look forward to renting with them in the future. more

Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know what a great job Arnold does managing the Overbrook Condo Association. He is always right on top of any problem that arises and he clearly visits the property fairly regularly, because he knows what's going on there. He is super organized and detailed, too. Good hire! more

While Myers might not be the greatest, the property owner of the apt bldg I lived in was/is a liar and a cheapskate. I got sick of being out in the middle. more

The office staff talks like they are renting the apartment for free. Property managers are some lazy guys who never do stuff on time. I don’t know how they managed to collect all the lazy unprofessional people together in there office. more

They are lying liars who lie. They don't do anything as far as maintenance unless you hold their feet to the fire, then they point the finger at the tenant. These people can't seem to comprehend that the reason for vacancies is their crappy service and the pitiful condition of the buildings. So I guess that makes them stupid, too. They are pathetic. STAY AWAY. more

Myers bought out Wears Kahn McMenamy in September 2008. The owners of the buildings are cheapskates who don't take responsibility for anything. The apartment buildings have no security, mailboxes are crappy, and you have to withhold rent to get them to do anything. Windows are falling apart and drafty. Supposedly there are no pets but tenants have dogs and cats and the lobbies smell bad. The buildings managed by Myers bring down the quality of the neighborhood. more

Do not use this company if looking to rent!!!!! They will not get back with you and will promise you things and will not follow through!!! Awful experience, there are too many good companies in the area to bother with them! more

Having moved eight times in the past twelve years, I had always enjoyed the convenience of renting an apartment. Despite the fact that I was"throwing my money away," I always quite enjoyed not having to fix things myself and the ability to move whenever I pleased. But my experience with Myers Real Estate finally convinced me to buy a house, in a way that my parents' admonishments never could. It literally took months of carping to get even the smallest repairs done. My apartment hadn't been painted in at least 10 years -- and had the yellowed walls complete with cracks chipping paint to prove it -- but they wouldn't even give me a free can of paint to do it myself. Repairs were made on evenings and weekends when I was at home -- incredibly annoying after a day at work. My experience with Myer's was nothing if not depressing. On the up side: they seemed to be some of the only landlords who allowed pets, the rent was reasonable, and they never charged me if my rent was a day or two late. more
