Not What It Seems 3/14/2012

Not a good place for toddlers. The staff tries to keep an eye on all the children but they are overwhelmed. Too many kids and not enough supervision. They seem frustrated. I personally talked to the teachers and they have expressed their frustration with the directors. Kids are always getting hurt and it is not being reported to the parents. My son was getting bitten by the same child who has bitten other children in the class. One evening at bath time I noticed my son had a bite mark on his shoulder. I wasn't told my son was bitten this day. The next day when I questioned the Assistant Director she claimed she didn't know of any incident. I was told by the Owner that he would call the teacher to see if she remembered an incident that day. He later told me that the teacher did not remember any incident. The following Monday, I spoke with the teacher who informed me that the Owner never called her about this incident. The Owner lied to me about talking to the teacher. My son was getting hurt on a weekly basis. The biter was allowed to continue his behavior for over 8 months. The Owner refused to do anything about the biter. I had the feeling the biter's family may have been relatives or a big contributor to the school. Otherwise, I could not see how this was allowed to go on. On another occasion I witnessed the biter pushing a little girl against the wall so hard she slammed her head. This happened right in front of the Owner and THREE teachers. I have to wonder if her parents were ever told. Although my child was very stimulated here, I could not leave him in a place where he would be hurt everyday and where they lie to me. Very frightening. more

Love This Day School 2/14/2012

I was returning to work after 5 months on Maternity Leave with my daughter and realized that my 2 1/2 yr old son, who was home with the Nanny needed socialization and more than just the basic skills. I visited 6 different schools between home and work for over 2 months and was rethinking the Nanny situation. I decided to look into one more schoool and Lucky #7 was My Special Spot. I knew the moment I walked in this was the school for my son. You could see and tell the Director, Jeff and the teachers actually cared for the children. It took my son and I a few weeks to settle in, my crying in the car after dropping him off, but the patience Ms. Gina, Ms. Patti and Ms. Gloria (Koala Kids) showed my son and I was remarkable. My son has graduated to another class now (Panda Pals) and I am going to be enrolling my daughter at the end of this year. In regards to the Negative Review Below, children are children and bumps, bruises and even biting does occur. In the past year my son has attended we rarely experienced any of it and I have to say if the littlest incident occurred we were immediately notified personally by the teacher and on his book when we picked him up. Mostly the normal boo boo's from playing. I have picked my son up many times at all different times of the day and have ""NEVER"" seen them outside unsupervised. There are always two or more teachers with each group outside. My son is Happy and Loves going to school. He is excited everyday to tell me about his day. He is constantly talking about his teachers, Ms. Emily & Ms. Sarah. I receive pictures several times a month of my child within the classroom to my personal email, which just brightens my days. At the end of last year I received a cd with pictures of him throughout the year in school, I cried my eyes out. Jeff and all the teachers love the children. more

The best place for chidlren!!! 9/28/2011

The best place for chidlren!!! Their ratios are lower than all the other schools in the area, they provide so much, and the staff is always friendly and professional. I've never had to worry!!! I don't know what the review below was talking about, but I can tell you that I've had all 3 of my children go through this school (the third is on her last year before public school) and I have always been able to count on them for constant communication. They even called me when there were just minor boo-boos or incidents, which did not happen very often at all! I always saw the staff be super attentive to the children and respectful. Before going there I got tons of recommendations from other experienced parents and all of the parents I have come to know all share similar positive experiences. We looked at all the other schools in the area, we even had our first daughter in a well known chain (that was horrible!). Sure there were some teachers throughout the years that did not live up to the schools standards, but the directors recognized it right away and my guess is that that is the reason why those people no longer work there, THANKFULLY! Nonetheless, they have the best teachers and best teacher turn-over around! Their teachers've been there not just 2 or 3 years (which for most preschools is unheard of) but been there 5,7,10 and even 13 years!!!! Everybody is like family and your child is treated as one of their own children! Plus, both my older chidlren were more than well prepared for kindergarten!!!!! Basically, I say ignore these reviews and go see for yourself! more

not a safe daycare for your child 8/26/2011

I was a former employee and I could not begin to tell parents the High School drama that went on in that school. As a parent I would NEVER and I mean NEVER send my child there, not even for FREE as it was offered to me in my new contract after I tried to resign. I accepted the new contract in hopes that things would get better and things would change but it didn't..I was a very hard working teacher assistant at MMS not to long ago...I loved my class, I loved my kids and I loved my job. My issues weren't the kids or the parents it was directly with the owner, director and some of the staff..often I would go upstairs and hear the owner making fun of the students..for example if the child had trouble with their speech and stuttered the owner and director would be upstairs making fun of that child..or teacher's fighting with each other within the same suite ..for example during lunch time two teacher's really went at it, I even feared myself because of the tone and what was said that the more

Worst place for toddlers! 8/11/2011

This daycare is not a good place for babies and toddlers. The staff does not do a good job keeping an eye on the children. They seem frustrated and can not handled the amount of kids per class. Kids are always getting hurt and not being reported to the parents. Two kids were recently pulled out by the parents because of they were always getting hurt and getting bitten. Do your research well and find a place where your child will be safe. This is not a good place for babies. Good luck more

Do not put your child in this daycare! 8/11/2011

This is the worst place for toddlers! Lots of biting, children fighting without intervention from the staff. Staff members are always in bad moods and is very obvious. They can not handle the children. Children un-attended when they are in the back playing. constantly changing staff memebers, gee i wonder why they dont stay long! By the time I pulled my toddler out of here the baby had bite marks all over as well as bruises! Parents do your research well, this place is not what they make you see on your appointment. Pay attention to behind the scenes! Keep your child safe and find another place for your children. more

GREAT PLACE FOR INFANTS THRU PRE-K 9/24/2010

This is a great place for infants! After visiting many other nursery schools and day cares in the area, and after a less than great experience with my first son, we settle on MSS for both our children. The place did undergo some renovations and change in ownership/management quite a few years ago and I could not be happier! Clearly the previous review is too old and I would recommend anyone who is considering finding a great place for their children to go see it themselves. The staff are very warm and the communication between them and me (as well as other parents) is great! My children are so happy and they have learned so much! My baby even learned sign language before his first birthday!!! Their ratios are low and the staff is so attentive. The owners are very approachable and everyone is treated life family! Go see it for yourself because I have not met another parent who is not in love with the place. more

Fantastic care - great parent communication 12/8/2005

My son went to My Special Spot for a year, until we moved out of town. Since then, it's been the standard by which all daycare centers are measured. The care is AMAZING. Teachers (like Miss Faye, Miss Patty and Miss Ginger) are warm and caring (and turnover was low when we were there), and the communication with parents is unmatched. Parents are invited to many activities during and after school hours, and parent-caregiver conferences are scheduled regularly. The school is well-run, well-maintained, clean and friendly. It's a little pricey, but I would happily recommend MSS to anyone. Pros: Fantastic staff, Clean, bright facilit, well-rounded curric. Cons: Expensive, Classes a little big more

EXCELLENT 11/18/2005

I absulotely love this school. The teachers and assistants are excellent with the children and assisting all children with different levels of learning comprehesion. I must also add that every single staff member, whether it is the owners of the facility or staff work closely with the growth process for each individual child. There are so many in-house events that are established to keep parents informed of the daily progress of their children and there is always open communication between staff and parent. I cannot rave enough about how I as a first time (new parent) love this facility... I must say safety for the children also is great and secure. You have to LOVE IT! Pros: safety, learning techniques, commun./affection Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

Not a safe place for infants! 11/18/2005

I visited this day care center when determining where to place my infant son. My first impression was that the entire center was very chaotic. I did not feel that the place was very secure at all. Furthermore, the infant room was huge, and it did not seem like there were enough teachers for a room that size. I could get lost in that room! I saw a woman changing a baby, and she turned away to get a diaper. You never leave a baby unattended on a changing table! I wouldn't leave my dog there, let alone my child. more
