Mount Plaines Animal Hospital

We've been to several vets in the area over the years, and have settled on Mt. Plaines. Always great care.They've always seen Dr. Claudio - he's handled our pets wonderfully, and both dogs love him, and he really, really cares about their well-being. more

We have seen Dr. Claudio numerous times with 5 animals over the years. He truly cares about our pets. I've referred many people to Mt Plaines and tell them either vet is great. more

I have using this facility for 20 years. However, I refuse to have my pet see any vet there besides Dr. Ruffolo. The male vet mishandled and traumatized my pet. This happened right before my eyes! Now my pet has such a difficult time going there. I have let them know that the male vet is no longer allowed to see my pet. Dr. Ruffolo did cover for him which I was not happy about. She does provide my pet with quality care. Please be careful when choosing vets at this hospital. Another highly rated pet care facility is Aberdeen Animal Hospital located on Golf and Mt Prospect Rd. They also provide quality care and are worth a serious look. more

I love everything about this place EXCEPT for one major thing. I agree with everyone thus far that the staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and dependable. However, I only have one cautionary complaint. If you take your pets to Mt. Plaines, do NOT see Dr. Claudio. Dr. Kim Ruffolo is exceptional, and the staff are all great, except for Dr. Claudio. He's nice, but he misdiagnosed my dog three times. A urinary tract infection after she was spayed, eye problems, and an injured leg all went undiagnosed by the same vet--this is consistent behavior. Dr. Claudio is easier to get an appointment with than Ruffolo, so be careful. Every time he sees my dog, we have to come back for another visit to get her checked properly, and actually, Ruffolo caught most of the misdiagnoses that Claudio caused. So if you do go here, my only advice is to stay away from him. We love our dog to bits, and loved Mt. Plaines, but I changed vets solely because of him. more

I can't say enough good things about Mt Plaines Animal Hospital. I've used both their vet services as well as the kennel. All the staff members are friendly and professional and seem to genuinely care about me and my pets. They are great about keeping me informed of upcoming vaccinations and are very accommodating about scheduling appointments. Their kennel rates are very reasonable. more

Dr. Ruffalo and Mt Plaines Hospital are the best. I wouldn't go anywhere else. We used to live in Mt Prospect and started going their many years ago with our new pug puppies because it was in walking distance to our house. We have since moved away but will not change vets. She and her staff have been great helping through our medical issues. One of the dogs had a condition that caused her to go blind and deaf early on and their staff helped us deal with that. Our other one was diagnosed with cancer and Dr. Ruffalo helped us find a specialist and with treatment our pug lived another five years. We now have new pugs and they will be lifelong Dr. Rufflalo patients. more

I have brought my dog to Dr Kim for 10 years. They are a terrific team, caring and compassionate, and carefully explain everything to make the right choices. Always friendly service. I also board my dog at their kennel. Love you guys. more

We have had Mount Plaines Animal Hospital take care of our pets (dogs) for years. When we have had to resort to putting two of our dogs to sleep, they were so kind and caring and helped us through this difficult process. We even got a HAND WRITTEN condolence card from the vet who put our "Rusty" to sleep. We would never use another vets office, all of the doctors are top-notch professionals who honestly care about you and your pet. more

Dr. Kim Ruffolo is the best vet I have ever met! She is not only brilliant, but a kind & wonderful person. She has been my vet for the past 8 years and i haven't and will never have any reason to go any where else! I trust her and her office 100% and I recommend her to anyone and everyone. Your Pet will always be in the best hands! 8 years ago I took my guinea pig to Dr. Ruffolo because she was very sick, ( She specializes in small animal care) Dr. Ruffolo not only nursed my pet back to health (which speaks worlds about her work, as it is very difficult to make a small animal like that healthy again) but she did so by taking my guinea home with her to give it her utmost attention! I have taken all my pets to her since and they always get the best care in the business!!! We love our pets like family and would only get them the best possible care, that will always be Dr. Ruffolo! more

I lived in Mt Prospect a few years ago and had nothing but wonderful experiences with this vet. They were so kind when I had to put my older cat to sleep and were a tremendous help with my new kitten. When he got sick after only having him a few weeks and the emergency vet basically told me it was hopeless and it was a rare condition...my vet at Mt Plaines called me the next day and calmly told me she disagreed and thought it was only a respiratory infection. Needless to say, 8 years and 20 lbs later...she was right. \r \r I loved that I could call to check on him and the front desk new immediately which cat he was and would tell me if he was out playing, and just generally chat about him.\r \r I've since moved to the city, and every time I go to my current vet I miss Mt Plaines and wish they were closer! more
