Editorial review from Citysearch 9/14/2013

Sorry for the long review. At the end of February I purchased a new 2013 Madass fully upgraded. The person I was working with was very friendly and helpful at first. I had a very busy schedule at that time and I was amazed when he told me that the scooter should arrive in 5-7 days. I waited until the 7th day before contacting Moto to ask for an update. They had not even started on the scooter which was not a big deal but I wish they had told me. I asked when I should expect the scooter to ship and they again stated the end of the week. Again I called at the end of the week and still no progress. I finally convinced them to ship out the scooter and received it two weeks after the expected date. I was a little frustrated but it was not a huge deal.\r \r The scooter seemed to be in good condition until I reached 100 miles. After changing the oil, I noticed blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. The smoke was thought to be the oil sealing the valves but it continued to be a problem. I contacted Moto and they said to take it to someone even though there was no warranty shop around and they would take care of the parts. I also had the rear break lock up a few times.\r \r The scooter shop nearby found that the rear break locked up because there was no lock-nut and the screw was backed out constantly applying the break. It was a scary safety concern and I was just glad the break did not lock up while I was riding. The blue smoke ended up being an oil leak from an improperly installed o-ring between the case and cylinder causing the bike to burn a lot of oil. It took more time than necessary to get Moto to supply parts (which they said they would supply) for the repair which was to replace the top end of the engine. The most frustrating part is the inaccurate dishonest information and lack of any sort of customer service. The service department just kept talking about how much it was costing them for the repair but no sort of sympathy or willingness to work with you. I waited 4 months for parts during the summer and had to call multiple times for an update which I never got an honest answer for. Moto continuously told me the parts were on the way and the next week they said the parts were on back order. I would have been fine with all of this if they had just been honest with me. If you want a new scooter or service from an honest establishment that won't play around with your money and time I would not shop here. \r more

Free Scooter Storage 7/27/2010

I bought a used Ruckus on Craigslist 2 years ago. (We've 5 drivers in the house, 3 of them teenagers, and only 3 cars.) Runs great. Lots of fun. It started to get loud, not the muffler, something in the motor/gearbox. I called Moto-Scoot ""sure we work on Hondas, but we have a 2 week wait"". I'm an understanding guy and bring it in on Monday June 21st and they'll call me in ""2 weeks"" No call.. I call on Thursday July 8 "" We were just about to call you, something is shot with the motor. Might need a rebuild or a new motor"" ""How much?"" I ask. "" Could be $400"" ""OK"" I say. Hell, what are my options. ""2 more weeks"" he says. I stopped by yesterday (July 26) to see how it's going. ""We haven't touched it. It's gonna be another week at least. We're very busy. When someone says 2 weeks they don't really mean it."" ""So if someone says $400, they don't really mean it?"" I ask. ""When do want to pick up your bike?"" he asks. ""Tomorrow"" is my reply. Picked up today and took it to an actual Honda dealer. So if you need scooter storage, try Moto Scoot on Water Street..36 days, no charge. No service, but no charge. PART TWO... So I took my Ruckus to a Honda dealer and they called me the NEXT DAY with a detailed written estimate...the motor is toast and repairs (worst case scenario) would be $650 for parts and $550 for labor... $1200 total. Even if an authorized Honda dealer charges a 50% premium over an independent shop (probably more like 25%), the job would still be $800 ($960).. So I guess the guy at Moto Scoot must have realized that his initial estimate of $400 was WAY too low and would rather be seen as a rude jerk than incompetent businessman, incapable of accurately estimating the cost of a job. Won't shop here again - Anti-LGBT 7/21/2009

I bought my scooter here and have received good service but will not spend another cent at Moto-Scoot. The owner is anti-LGBT so I can no longer support his shop. If you are LGBT or an ally take your business elsewhere! more

In the fall of '08 I took my Madass Scooter to MS to have some upgraded engine parts installed, get a general check-up done, and have the front shocks rebuilt. Pros: staff expertise, location, discussed, documented, and stuck to work-order, super-cool guard dog more

Don't go there!!!! 10/20/2008

I have to say that I had a terrible experience at Moto Scoot. It took a month to get my bike back! When ever I called for an update, I was spoken to very rudely. And when I finally got it back the seat was off, it was dirty, and clearly all they did was start it up. No test drive or anything! I got about 2 miles away when the bike died. After getting back to the shop, we discovered that they put in a used spark plug and the spark plug cap was broken so it couldn't maintain contact! I've had nothing but problems since. After dropping a couple hundred dollars there, I'm going to have to take the bike in to another shop to get it fixed up! I'll never go back to moto scoot, and don't recommend it for anything other than a flat tire! more
