awful experience. going to the dentist is already a scary situation for most so going in and being treated with no sympathy nor respect was very unsettling. the work she did also had to be redone by another dentist. more

Gayle Mooradian, DDS is rude, unprofessional, and makes mistakes with no apology or explanation. She is abusive towards her staff. Highly recommend avoiding her!!! more

Worst dentist experience ever!! I wish I had read some reviews before I went to her - I would have a couple more teeth in my mouth and a few more dollars in the bank. Avoid!! Don't do it!!! more

Terrible 12/28/2011

Going to the dentist is never pleasant, but it is even worse when your dentist spends the whole time she is working on you complaining about the temp at the front desk. I would rather have someone chat at me, asking me questions they know I can't answer, or even just work quietly, but she spent the whole time venting. If that was it, I could put up with it, especially for the price (at the time I didn't have insurance), but when I needed a filling things started going downhill very quickly. She put the filling in, and within a day, I started having pain in the recently filled tooth. I thought I was just sore, so I waited a little while, but I couldn't even chew on that side of my mouth. Finally, after a couple of weeks, I went back. She rudely insisted that it was my fault, that I had, obviously, cracked it on something. When I said, ""that is always possible, but it DID start hurting RIGHT after you put the filling in,"" she said that maybe my tooth just didn't ""take"" to the amalgam filling. She said she would remove it and put a traditional metal filling in instead. (Note: I had paid extra from the amalgam.) So she drilled out the original filling, insisting the whole time that, most likely, I had cracked it, then, with the old filling drilled away, she admitted that the problem was another cavity that she hadn't seen. She drilled that one too, and filled both cavities with a metal filling. She never apologized for blaming me. I just got back from my new dentist who is appalled at the state of that one tooth. He says all my teeth look good, and that it is weird to have one tooth that has been so drilled out. Now I need to get a crown for that one tooth, and I am so irritated it prompted me to write this review. DON'T GO TO DR. MOORADIAN. SHE IS TERRIBLE! more

Good Dentist, Poor Personal SKills 10/17/2010

I'm not entirely in disagreement with the other reviews ""Unprofessional, Rude and Awful"" and ""Avoid This One - Terrible Experiences Await"" -- however in my experience Dr. Mooradian is in fact a skilled dentist, she just lacks respect for her office workers and patients. She also employs some questionable accounting practices. For example, she will calculate what she believes will be reimbursed by your insurance, charge you the rest, and then fail to inform you that your account has a credit balance because the insurance paid her more than her (conservative?) calculation. I haven't tried asking for a refund check for the credit balance...I imagine she would (with a snarky comment under her breath) because it would be illegal for her not to. Oddly, I'm still a patient. Perhaps because I'm too lazy to find another (she's conveniently located), and perhaps because I'm actually amused by her office soap-opera antics. The turn over rate for her poor abused hygienists and office staff is really quite amazing. Another reviewer is not exaggerating about Dr. Mooradian swearing at her staff in front of patients, and occasionally at patients behind their back. It's so ridiculous it's comical. My advice to you is either accept her quirks or find another dentist altogether. And don't let her push you around, especially to get fillings ""replaced"" that are perfectly fine as they are. One final experience, Dr. Mooradian recommended I have an older (amalgam) filling replaced, and I decided to since she'd be working on another tooth anyway. After the Novocain wore off I could tell that the filling needed grinding down, because my bite wasn't right anymore. I returned the next day and with some persistence Dr. Mooradian got my bite fixed -- and wasn't even that snarky about it!!! So, your mileage may vary, and expect some interesting bumps in the road along the way... more

Great Dentist! 11/22/2009

My family and I just moved here from southern California this summer and we needed a new dentist. I found Dr. Mooradian because she is located in a central Santa Cruz area that is easily accessible and convenient. She also takes many kinds of insurance that other dentists complain about and has a friendly and helpful office staff. \r I went in for a routine exam that was thorough and efficient. Dr. Mooradian repaired a cracked tooth that was causing me pain and temperature sensitivity. After the repair which was completed painlessly and with great care, I am now free of any problems with that tooth. The last two dentists couldn't even diagnose a problem which was very frustrating. \r I needed a dentist for my children aswell. I usually take them to a pediatric dentist but after my positive experience and the idea that it would be more convenient for us to all see the same dentist. I made my appointments without hassle and when we arrived for the appointements we were seen on time, which is unheard of for most dental offices. They were treated with the same gentleness and sensitivity they usually were at their previous pediatric dental office. Again, the treatment was thorough and efficient and painless. My children were a bit nervous about seeing a ""family dentist"" as opposed to their usual ""kid dentist"" but they were very pleasantly surprised and have no problems going back for the fillings they need. My daughter was able to watch cartoons while getting her cleaning. \r I am very pleased with Dr. Mooradian and her entire staff. I have recommended her to several friends and will continue to do so. \r Pros: Great Family Dentist more

Unprofessional, Rude and Awful 5/27/2008

My first visit, front desk assistant friendly and the hygienist super sweet. The second time I went back, for a cleaning, no one was at the front desk. Dr. Mooradian chewed out the hygienist, swearing right in front of me, making me rather uncomfortable. She then snapped at another patient to go sit down, so Mooradian's dog would stop barking! (what dentist brings their dog to the office?). Dr. Mooradian continued to run around the office yelling, ""who has my schedule book"", while my hygienist was with me trying to schedule my next appointment. When Dr. Mooradian came to inspect my teeth, she was rude and snotty when I told her I might be moving and wasn't going to schedule an appointment for my next cleaning. Later that month I received a bill from her office saying my insurance had not paid them. I called and left a message telling them there was mix up with my insurance and that they should send the claim again. Now six months later I got a call from Dr. Mooradian herself, enquiring about payment. She yelled at me that it was my responsibility to keep up on payment, not hers, that she was very busy and I should have called her months ago. This was after I had already told her 3 times I had called in January. After calling my insurance company and they assured me there was a mixup with the claim and the payment would go out in the next few days, I called back Dr. Mooradian to let her know her payment was on the way. She persisted to know when it would get there. I also told her that I would be taking my business elsewhere, because I found her service very unprofessional and rude. She mumbled into the phone, said, ""well I didn't like you either"" and hung up. Come on grow up! No wonder you cant keep any staff at your office. I think she needs to seek out a therapist... the woman has issues! Stay away from here! more

Avoid This One - Terrible Experiences Await 4/18/2007

I didn't expect a trip to the dentist to be fun, but I had no idea how awful it could be. After being treated with appalling disrespect by Mooradian and her staff, I would not recommend her to anyone. \r \r I went to Dr. Mooradian suspecting I had an abscessed tooth. I had been in intense pain for four days and had been very sick to my stomach for two days. I barely dragged myself out of bed to make it to her office. \r \r I had a 3pm appointment and had been told to arrive at 2:45 to fill out forms because it was my first visit. I arrived at 2:40 to find the front desk empty. After 10 minutes a staff member waved to me while taking a phone call, but did not assist me. Five minutes later Dr. Mooradian finally checked in with me and gave me the forms I needed.\r \r I waited 15 minutes to ask a simple question about insurance. I had to ask three times where the restroom was, and barely made it there without being sick on the office's floor. After finishing the forms, I continued to wait. At 3:30 a patient with a 3pm appointment arrived, and was shown back immediately. I continued to be ignored. At 3:45 I approached a woman at the front desk, politely asking her when I could be seen and explaining that I was very sick and had been there for a full hour without any assistance. The woman snapped at me that they has just gotten ready and I could go back right away.\r \r After having one x-ray taken I waited another 10 minutes without hearing from anyone. I returned to the bathroom. I opened the door to hear Mooradian and her staff making fun of me for being sick. \r \r Mooradian proceeded to refer me to an oral surgeon and prescribe an antibiotic, but when I asked about pain killers and what to do about my terrible nausea she gave me attitude instead of answers. \r \r I left Dr. Mooradian's office feeling sick on a whole new level. Pros: Convenient Location, Clean Office Cons: Disrespectful Staff, Late on Appointments, Unhelpful and Catty Doctor, Not Compassionate more
