GREAT STEAKS AND CASUAL DINING 10/5/2011

My family and friends have been dining at the Monte Carlo Steakhouse in Albuquerque, New Mexico for years and have always had a good experience there with the delicious foods (ALL) and good service. If you want to pay high prices go to the fancy restaurants with all the fancy furnishings.. this is for a casual family home like dining experience which i prefer with my budget. Excellent steaks always done the way i like it or they do it right for you. LOVE YOU MONTE CARLO!!! Thank you for being a down home place to eat! more

Best Resturant in the Area 9/11/2010

I was in Albuquerque, NM for a convention with my husband and two other co-workers. My husband had seen Monte Carlo's on Diners Drive-ins and Dives and so we thought we would try it out. While the resturant is not much to look at from the outside (which I think is part of the charm) the food inside is WONDERFUL, the service was GREAT and the atmosphere was TERRIFIC. The stake that I had was one of the best I have ever had - I would recommend this resturant to anyone in the area. The value is great and you can't ask for much more that that - food, service, atmosphere and value. Take my advice - VISIT THIS resturant - if it wasn't for the fact that I am from NC I would defintely visit often. more

BEST STEAK EVER!! 6/30/2009

I could have chosen any place in Albuquerque to eat last week for my birthday. I love fine dining and atmosphere. I had heard so much about the Monte Carlo and wanted to try it. Decided to go for my birthday with a large group. The place is certainly interesting................almost like a Speakeasy minus the door and ""the goon."" My rib eye was one of the best I have ever eaten in a restaurant! (I used to work in Las Vegas, Nevada as a concierge and got comps to some of the best fine dining in the city.) The atmosphere is interesting (to say the least) but the steak was excellent. I suggest you try the Monet Carlo and the large rib eye! Can hardly wait to try a prime rib sandwich some Wednesday for lunch...........heard it is also a must do. I can still taste that melt in your mout steak! Pros: Fast, friendly service Cons: Not much of a dessert menu - Baklava was stale more

Fantastic food! 3/25/2009

Besides the great food, we all thought it had great atmosphere and the wait staff were friendly and helpful. I would come back in a heartbeat! Pros: Excellent steaks more

Amazing 3/5/2009

Best ribeye I have ever had. more

MONTE CARLO'S ""RARE"" IS NOT AS DESCRIBED IN THE MENU! STAFF WAS CRUDE AND RUDE! 8/6/2008

My brother came from California. We had both seen the show on The Food Channel (""Dumpsters - Diners and Dives"" .... or a variation!) featuring the Monte Carlo and their steaks. This was a great opportunity to venture 25 miles for dinner - so off we went with out wives.\r \r The Rib Eye was our choice. They list five or six ways steaks can be cooked. We all asked for RARE - which should be cool in the center. The 14 ounce steaks that came wer far beyond ""rare"", more like ""medium"" (nasty way to ruin meat!).\r \r We all mentioned it to our waitress and she went to the cook to see what happened. A gent who never introduced himself came to the table and asked about ""the problem"". We relayed our disappointment and our definite dislike for ANY MEAT cook ""beyond rare"". He asked if we would be satisfied if we were only charged for TWO STEAKS. We all replied, ""no"" and explained we did not come in to get free meals in any quantity. He was not pleased and informed us that out of two-dozen customers that evening (August 6th 2008) we were the only ones to complain. We politely informed HIM it did not matter; and if we could not get the steak cooked as we asked, we would simply leave.\r \r We stood to go and out of the blue another table with four folks motioned towards the waitress. They had a similiar complain - theirs were not cooked enough - they were - as you might guess 'rare"" and they had asked for ""medium"". The gent who offered us two free meals then said, ""oh we switched the orders"", so we will just switch them to the correct tables! in short - we all would get steaks which had been cut into and tasted by other individuals. ""What a way to run a restaurant"", exclaimed a lady at table number two!\r \r In the end - we ALL LEFT and went elsewhere. The quality might not have been as good, but they were cooked PERFECTLY and were 4 ounces larger than at The Monte Carlo!\r \r NEVER AGAIN WILL I DINE BEHIND A LIQUOR STORE! No matter which TV show features their cuisine! Pros: Horrible experience - but at least we got out without paying for food NOT cooked as we asked. Cons: ATTITUDE - CRUDE AND RUDE STAFF / MANAGER (OWNER??) more

Does not live up to expectations 2/16/2008

We read the reviews before we went and even called the restaurant. I specifically asked if the beef served was ""prime"". Both the male who answered the phone and our waitress assured me it was. It was not. Under the best of circumstances it would have been considered a low grade of ""choice"". The portions were substantial but quantity does not make up for quality. The french fries were cooked with the temperature to low. As a result instead of have fries with a slightly crisp outside and tender inside we had potatoes that were essentially soaked in hot grease. All three of our meat dishes were served luke warm at best.\r \r Our review will not affect their business it is a locals place. The wait staff is very friendly but that is not enough to have us return to see if we just caught them on a bad night. All in all an experience we do not care to repeat. Pros: Not enough to bring me back Cons: Waste of good money more

A Do Not Miss Albuquerque Eatery 11/30/2005

I've been in the restaurant upholstery business in Albuquerque for almost 30 years and have had lunch and dinner at every place in town and several that no longer exist. The Monte Carlo is the single best steakhouse in town. It maybe could use a bit of redo but that might also change the ambience. If you want light and airy go to one of the franchise joints for a second rate, smaller piece of meat and a waiter who'll tell you his name. Trust me, I grew up in a steakhouse in the midwest and know good meat. Pros: great meat, old time atmosphere, involved owners Cons: a tad dark more

Great Food!!! 10/18/2005

I go there all the time and get their steaks and some times I get a hamburger. All of the food is very great. Pros: Hamburgers, steaks Cons: parking more

very-very-very-low quality 7/30/2005

Stay away. This place had by far the worst steaks I have ever had. For what they charged, I should have been served a kick but steak. What I got was a poor excuse for a seak. The steak was fatty, old in taste, and below the choice cut grade. Pros: not a thing Cons: worst food in town more

MMMMM........ 10/16/2002

The Monte Carlo has the best steaks. green chile cheese burgers, fried zucchini, and french fries in Albuquerque. If you love any of these foods you'll love the Monte Carlo. I do have to admit the owner could do a little remodling. You won't even care what the place looks like after you taste a green chile cheese burger. Pros: friendly staff, lots of parking, low prices more

Ghetto Fabulous 10/7/2002

The food is delicious, the people are wonderful but the atmosphere could use some work, as in work I mean......new furniture and some re-construction. Pros: nice people, great food, inexpensive Cons: crowded, loud more

family time 7/21/2002

The Monte Carlo has the best steaks in Albuquerque at reasonable prices. Cooked to prefection tender plentiful excellent cuts to choose from Pros: inexpensive, plentiful, family orineted Cons: dark, crowded more
