Delicious noodles and excellant service 5/23/2008

The staff was friendly despite my arriving after closing. The atmosphere was nice with a unique layout and view. The food was excellant particularly the lobster/mango spring roll and spicy mint noodle. The spring roll was well balanced with sauce and flavor, with lots of extra points for originality. The spicy mint noodle was suprising with tender noodles and well balanced sauce and good portion sizing. The wine list was extensive and perfectly chosen for the food available. I really enjoyed my experience. more

Delicious and Utah's Best Wine List 11/20/2006

Monsoon Thai Bistro is a lovely place. Full of dark woods with a beautful fireplace and an impressive wine cooler. In the summer, there is a cute patio with water misters and a fun atmosphere. In the winter, this place is VERY romantic with candlelight, a glowing fire, and a warm and welcoming vibe. The current wait staff is excellent (particularly Ryan, who knows both the wine list and menu exceptionally well). We are always greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner, sat promptly, and provided with menus and a wine list. And, what a wine list it is! It's more like a wine bible (and nearly as big). The selection of wines by the glass is good, and the overall selection is amazing, including a large number of ""cellar selections"" for those who are celebrating or looking for something special. If you're unsure which wine to order, the waiters can be very helpful. They demonstrate a good knowledge of wine and wine pairings, which can sometimes be challenging with spicy Thai food. However, the true wine guru at Monsoon is Keith Chan, the owner/operator. His wine knowledge is unsurpassed in Salt Lake City (and probably in Park City too). If Keith is available, he won't steer you wrong. I can honestly say that I have tried nearly every dish on the Monsoon menu, and I have never been dissapointed. For starters, one can't go wrong with the crispy spring rolls, a delicious classic. The thai dumplings are very good, and the mango spring rolls are refreshing and delicious. My favorite entree is the salmon in yellow curry. It somehow manages to be delicate, yet rich and spicy at the same time. It is a shining example of how complex Thai cuisine can be when done well. I would also opt for the green curry, the spicy mint noodles, or the pad thai, all are delightful and offer a choice of chicken, prawn, or vegetarian serving options. I would high recommend Monsoon to anyone looking for a special dining experience. Pros: Comprehensive wine list. Excellent service. Romantic. more

Great service and amazing food 9/8/2006

I'm really picky when i eat out and spend my hard earned money. We had a buy one get one free coupon so why not try something new. Pros: always a coupon out there, service and food Cons: didn't have one more

Average food, Horrible service 6/17/2006

I ordered takeout. I was told to be there in 25 minutes. 30-minutes later I showed up...they had forgotten to even start my order. I sat there for another 30-minutes while they prepared the whole thing. The waitress asked me what she could do to make it up to me, I suggested giving me one (just one) of the appetizers free. The ""head waiter"" absolutely refused. He was arrogant and I will never go there again. It wasn't about the $10 for the appetizer, it was about them showing concern for the customer. The obviously have none. The place is always empty. Pros: Beautiful decor; good (not great) food Cons: Horrible service and atmosphere created by sub-sta more

Amazing 1/20/2006

Upon reading all of these posts I was quite weary of my visit. I went in expecting the servers to be awful and the food bland. Thankfully my fears were laid aside. The staff was quite amazing, 3 servers covering all those tables i was impressed. Very knowledgeable of the food and the 20 page wine book. When the food came i was in awe of the portion size of the noodle dish I had, and of the curry my wife had. The food was excellent, best i had in SLC, it was a bit underspicy for me but that is something easily remedied. The price was on par with any other thai restaurant in town. Sligtly higher but what do you expect for Seabass and roughy being on a thai menu. Pros: Food, Service, Wine Cons: Seating, Lighting, Location more

Way too interested in alcohol than food 9/19/2005

The Thai food here is terrible. All the waiter did was try to keep pushing wine and alcohol on me and my friends, even after we said no. When it came time to pay the bill, he was nowhere to be found until I went into the kitchen. Very unprofessional waiters. Pros: Nice inside Cons: bad food, too much alcohol, too expensive more

very disapointed 8/18/2005

When in town for business I was told by a co-worker that this was one of the more upscale and thai places in town and that it would be a travesty for me to skip it during my visit to SLC. Well this guy oculd not have been farther from the truth. The server was rude, unhelpful, and borderline offencive. As for the food it did not fair much better, the portions were small and bland. I have been to Thailand and have a deep love for the food but this was not even good for midwestern standards. Their currys were oily and for some reason the Pad Thai tasted as if it had ketchup in it???? i dont know but the only thing in the restraunt I enjoyed was the wine I orderd. Thank goodness they didnt mess that up!! Pros: decent wine list, nice view Cons: BAD food, Awufu service, overpriced. more

Rude and not at all good 5/30/2005

I went to this place because of the Salt Lake Magazine rating of Best. It is not the best. There are many other Thai and Chinese restaurants better than this. To top it off, when I complained about the curry being bland, the waiter told me that they made it just like in Thailand and I didn't know what I was talking about. Very very rude. Pros: Nice decor, nice patio Cons: expensive, rude service, bad food more

What? You charge for rice? 3/21/2005

My fiancee and I both ordered curry dishes. When we got the bill, their was an extra $2 for rice. What the heck was that for? What else do you eat curry with? A spoon? When we ordered, we didn't order anything extra--the waitress just brought out the rice and we thought (rightfully) it was part of the meal. How cheap is that. It's a sneaky way to get two more dollars out of us. The manager was smug about it, too, pointing out the fine print in 6 pt type at the bottom away from the menu item. The curry was ok, but really the atmosphere was destroyed by them being so cheap. Expect to be charged for water. Pros: Atmosphere, Colorful Cons: Deceiving charges, Too little food more

I've had better 11/28/2004

I ordered the Pad Thai. It really wasn't that great. All in my group were not impressed with their meal either. The service is alright, the atmosphere is elegant and nice. I just wish the food were better. more
