MLS did great job at very fair price 9/19/2013

I was reffered to MLS by a friend. They trimmed all my trees and fertilized them as well. I checked their references and insurance papers. Their work was top notch and clean up was very good \r I used MLS TREES SERVICE on 9/ 18 /2013 for a second time, as well several of my neighbors, we all found there work to be very high quality, in addition they fertilized and cared for several of my sick trees and brought them back to health more

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/4/2013

Jeff Doyle, owner of MLS Tree Service, came to my home to look at my sick trees. He told me he was a master arborist, an adjunct professor at MSU, and that he teaches classes in tree diseases. He spoke rapidly and left quickly after securing my business. His men drilled a few holes in the ground and poured some granules inside. He treated all the trees the same, despite differing problems with different species of trees. I thought it odd when he made a comment about a ring I was wearing at the time and asked to see it more closely, but everything was happening so quickly, I brushed it off at the time. I was billed almost $1000 for that day. He said the treatment would be good for 3 years.\r \r When I called him back a few months later, stating that my trees looked worse, he came back out, said he would do a different treatment, but instead did the same granules for yet another $500. He said that the biopsies he took showed that the borers were dead. I asked, when did he take the biopsies, he said he couldn’t remember the date, but that he sent them to Michigan State University and got the results. I asked to see the report, he said he would send them to me. When I brought up that there were some very bad reviews online about him, he countered with some of the good reviews. I said that anyone can enter a review, and I looked at them with skepticism, since he or his family or his employees can enter good reviews to counter the bad ones. He just looked at the ground and said nothing. Again he spoke rapidly and left quickly. \r \r I phoned him back, stating that he told me that these treatments would be good for 3 years, but that he repeated them a few months later. I could not afford this since I'm a retiree on a fixed income. He offered to refund my $500 and I agreed to that. He said he would mail a check to me at the end of the month. I asked again to see the biopsy results, he said he would bring them to me on his next visit. I phoned him a third asking for the results and he said he would send them in the mail. Three requests, no results.\r \r I waited for my refund to arrive at the end of the month, and it never came. I called him yet again and a different man returned my call stating that Doyle had sold the company to him and that Doyle was in Florida. My phone calls after that were ignored. I believe he had one of his employees lie to me in order to get rid of me and keep the money he promised to return. I recognized this man's voice, and he used the exact same language and persuasive lies that Doyle had previously.\r \r I went to MSU's website, could not find him listed on their faculty page. I called the University and was told they had no one on staff with that name. I also spoke to an arborist that recently graduated from MSU's arborist program and he also never heard of Jeff Doyle. I did my own research on the supposed treatment for one of my broadleaf trees, and found that what he told me he was giving the tree is actually a treatment for needle cast for pines. I don't believe he ever treated my broadleaf tree with anything other than some fertilizer granules. The disease is much worse now and I have hired another legitimate, certified arborist to treat it. His credentials have checked out.\r \r I agree with the previous reviews that this man is a scam artist, taking money from trusting people. In my opinion, he doesn't know proper tree care or diseases and treatments, and didn't believe I would check out his credentials or research his supposed ""treatments"". His behavior is classic for taking advantage of innocent people. I wish I would have seen these negative reviews before I gave him any money. Do NOT trust this man or his company. \r more

MLS saved my sick trees 12/11/2011

I saw MLS Tree Service working in my area and asked for a free quote for fertilizing and trimming. Their price was very reasonable and their references checked out. They did the job promptly and efficiently. I referred them to a friend of mine. My friend did hire them, and she was very happy, too. more

Beware of Expensive Fertilizer Treatments 12/5/2011

My father-in-law, a senior, needed a downed limb and tree removed as well as others pruned. Owner Jeff Doyle (JD) recommended a fertilizer treatment at $75 per tree. The work was done quickly in mid-November by boring shallow holes and pouring granular fertilizer in the holes. JD stated the treatment would be good for several years. A subsequent review of MSU's website revealed the method and timing of this treatment would yield minimal results. JD agreed to come back out the following week to give an estimate on taking down the tree and never showed up. A follow up call also went unanswered. A second contractor came out to give an estimate. He indicated 2 of the 7 trees fertilized had sufficient rot and should never have been treated. In sum, JD made a quick buck off a senior by recommending an expensive fertilizer treatment rather than running chain saws and a chipper. To his credit, he did cut and remove the downed limb. more

Unprofessional Scammer 8/29/2011

I would not recommend MLS tree service if you want your job completed. I believe the owner has some serious issues with honesty and integrity. I was promised a job completed and it has been over 3 months since he was contracted. Mr. Doyle has promised repeatedly (4X) that he would be out to finish job. He has never shown up and lied each time. Very unprofessional...do not use this company..there is a reason he quotes less expensive. BEWARE more

Quality service for a reasonable price 2/16/2009

After reading the 2 negative reviews I have to say I was a little apprehensive about requesting a quote for some early spring clean up from this company but given that they are free I figured I had nothing to loose. I have to say I was not only pleasantly surprised by Mr. Doyle's promptness and professionalism but was quickly put at ease in my mind that he was out to provide the best service possible at a fair & reasonable price. Not to mention that out of the 3 local ""tree service"" companies I contacted he was the only one to show up on time as promised. In fact one company never even bothered to show or call to let me know they were not coming. You would think with today's economy customer service would be at the forefront, not the case with everyone. I went ahead and gave Mr. Doyle a deposit on 1/31 for work to be performed the following weekend on 2/7 as I felt very reassured that I was working with a reputable person and company. As it turned out my instinct was right! They showed up AGAIN as promised & on time on 2/7 and worked very quickly to remove a lot of dead wood from my 3 large oak trees and remove an old stump. Even though it took them a little longer then expected and they had to come back the next day to finish up and do the final clean up they did an outstanding job above and beyond my expectations and because of that it prompted me to come back to city search and help set the record straight regarding those 2 negative reviews. From my experience with Mr. Doyle and his company you get nothing but top customer service at a fair and reasonable price which in today's economy should be a given and with MLS it is! Pros: prompt, fair, & professional Cons: None more

EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE 2/12/2009

Jeff took care of my fallen tree for a decent price. I referred my best friend to him and he got the same good service at a fair price. I'll use MLS again if the need arises. Pros: They did a great job Cons: can't think of one more

WATCH OUT!! 1/26/2009

The owner of this tree company - Jeff Doyle - is a TH$EF ! He will take your money and give you nothing in return. He took hundreds of dollars (nearly a thousand) from me and then refused to return calls, emails and even tried to fake that it wasn't him when I did catch him on the phone. He simply took my money and I never heard from him again. He did this with forthought and malice - planned it - and followed through with no remorse or guilt. I assume he does this all the time and is the major way he makes a living so WATCH OUT FOR THIS GUY AND HIS BUSINESS!!! He comes off very convincing and sounds honest but will take you for whatever he can - a con. Cons: will take your money and perform no service more

BEWARE- WILL NOT RETURN DEPOSIT FOR INCOMPLETE WORK!! 11/16/2006

This company's owner took a deposit check on 10-23-2006. To remove two trees The next day....Haven't seen him since!!! Asked for my deposit check back...Now they won't return my calls!!! Cons: If you want to make a donation to this guy , Hire him to do nothing. more
