My addiction 6/27/2010

I have been an avid sushi goer for many years in many different cities , and on different coasts. Miya sushi commands the phrase, ,""I could taste the LOVE in the food."" The clean pure flavor of the carefully chosen fish, along with the delicately prepared traditional japanese dishes, and the wonderful livingroom atmosphere, make this restaurant a true Addiction for someone like me. But the good news is that its healthy, affordable, and delightful, and just beware,if you do come and try it,be prepared to be a REGULAR. The Albacore is some of the best I have ever had,and the sushi rice is always the perfect temperature and consistency. If you just want a quick sampling of different fish, get the Chirashi Sushi, for under twenty dollars, and you can barely finish it.As different delicacies come into season,Toshi and Suzuki are sure to feature them on the little blackboard. For true purists and for the average japanese food lover, this is your place and I cannot stress it enough. Bon Appetite. Pros: Perfection more

Covers all the bases... Excellent 5/24/2009

This place is great. Toshi-san and Suzuki-san are superb chefs, and this is one of the few places in the valley that maintain traditional high standards of superb fish (for the traditionalists), very creative maki (for the moderns), and exquisite traditional japanese meals. The previous reference to CHEERS is correct, great for the whole family, very high percentage of japanese customers, and ridiculously affordable relative to the quality of fish. Do yourself a favor and get in line at 5:30 when the doors open. Jay Patterson Pros: A GEM - all of the reviewers are right. Cons: None at all. more

REAL sushi in LA 2/22/2009

I am Japanese and know what REAL sushi is. Miya sushi is one of a few restaurants which serves REAL sushi. Their fish is always fresh, delicious, and prepared right. The taste and softness/hardness of the rice are always perfect. Not only their food, the service is very good and friendly. I can't wait to go back there again. Pros: Freshness of the food, service, and everything more

Like a Second Home! 11/4/2007

Miya Sushi is the Cheers of sushi bars - everybody knows your name. It's easy to become a regular at Miya because the sushi is always fresh and delicious, and the staff makes you feel welcome and appreciated. Step up to the bar and try a few appetizers to start: shishito peppers, sauteed shitake mushrooms and asparagus, and the broiled chilean seabass are a few of my personal favorites. Then, look up at the specials board to see if they have any ankimo, spanish mackerel, or oysters on the half shell. All of their food is top-notch, and they have outstanding lunch specials, too. Enjoy. Pros: great food, consistently friendly service, relatively inexpensive Cons: closed on mondays? (seriously, not many cons to this place!) more

Thumbs up! 9/2/2004

Despite the small and sometimes crowded dining area, their sushi and prices definitely make up for it. The service is really pleasant. From the moment my girlfriend and I walked in the door we were greeted with smiles and treated like regular cutomers. Try the tempura appetizer, you'll love it! Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive, Friendly Service Cons: , Crowded more

The Longest Meal 7/24/2004

My husband and I were looking for some local sushi, having just moved into the neighborhood. On the advice of sidewalk, we located this little restaurant and decided to give it a try. We walked in and were seated at the two person table right in front of the door. The menu was pretty limited, but it had some of the basic standbys. No substitutions were allowed in the combinations, but the food was passable. The real problem was the service. We were in a very high traffic area and we still had to wait half an hour for the check; catching the eye of the servers did no good. Don't go here unless you're a larger party they can't ignore or you've got a lot of time to waste. more
