I moved back to Southern California...and I still have yet to find anything like Mitchell's. *sigh* The UBE FLAVOR ICE CREAM...nothing is like it anywhere...and the AVOCADO! I wish Mitchell's sold in stores down here! more

Best non-commercial ice cream 9/15/2002

My family has been going to Mitchell's for over 20 years. I am an S.F. native and when friends or relatives from out of town come to visit, I always take them there! Even their ice cream cakes are to die for! We ran into Benjamin Bratt there once (he is also an S.F. native)! The secret is out, it's no longer just a San Franciscan secret! Pros: number system, on the corner, easy to find Cons: parking sucks, small store, packed all hours more

Now that ""San Francisco"" magazine has named Mitchell's cantaloupe ice cream as one of the 125 'Best Things to Eat' in the bay area, I guess the lines will be even longer. I've been a fan of their cantaloupe ice cream ever since I first tried it about 4 years ago. Since then, I've added their Mexican Chocolate and Thai Iced Coffee flavors to my favorites list. more

Try the Chicago Cheesecake. Or the peach. Or the mango. Or the French Vanilla Custard Or the ... well, you get the point. Delicious ice cream, helpful staff, prompt service, AND it's a family business. Makes me want to get a cone right now. more

Mitchell's ice cream definitely has my vote for best in the area. They also win hands down for sheer variety of somewhat unusual flavors.....from durian to corn flavored ice cream. more

Mitchell's is such a treat. Especially good are the tropical flavors, two kinds of coconut - awesome! Great waffle cones. Wish they had indoor seating on those cool nights, though. more

Worth the Wait 7/23/2002

I had my doubts when I took number 120 and they were only on 84, but when I tasted that avocado ice cream dipped in chocolate, I was sold. I have trouble eating any other ice cream now. Nothing stacks up! more

Best mom and pop ice creamery. 6/5/2002

Best and creamiest ice cream in the area with a diverse selection of flavors. Rum raisin and mango are superb. Only downside is no seating - this is a walkin, take-out place. Pros: super creamy, best flavors Cons: difficult parking, no seating, long lines more
