How could anyone not like ice cream?? It?s Un-American. The best part is that you have total control over the creative process when choosing flavors. I love it, my kids love it ev...

Their flavours are overhyped. Agreed, they are a neighbourhood joint. But there are plenty of other mom & pop ice cream shops in the city that have better quality, better service,...

Best Ice Cream. 7/26/2006

I`ve been coming here since I was a kid. I absolutely love their ice cream. Halo-halo sundae with mango topping is my favorite!<3 There is always a long line when I pass by or come here; so try to avoid crowded times, esp. on hot days & night. But I say that the long wait is worth it. Many flavors to choose; American flavors & tropical (Filipino) flavors to love. Pros: Delicious flavors, good service, & cost. Cons: Parking & crowds. more

Best in SF 6/24/2006

I now live 70 miles away and have tried all kinds of icecream in many other cities and other countries; nothing beats this place. The twist is the fantastic flavors you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else, but even plain vanilla or chocolate are exceptional here. I've taken many here and all have become longtime customers. Mitchells uses realCREAM not milk or soy products etc. They've been around forever and have perfected making icecream. Not to be missed if you live anywhere in the city. Do yourself a favor and just GO. It will brighten your day. more

Lots of flavors - albeit fake ones 5/25/2006

I was surprised and dismayed to see that Mitchell's uses artificial flavorings and other unnatural products in their ice cream. In a town like this, I'm suprised Mitchell's ranks as highly as it does. I'll stick with my Haagen-Daaz or the gelato place down the street that doesn't have day-glo flavors. Pros: variety Cons: artifical ingredients more

Which to pick... 5/3/2006

The variety is awe-inspiring. The mango is good, but doesn't taste like mango. Try the lychee for something different. more

More more Mitchells! 3/14/2006

The other day I was made fun of by an SF Police officer for going back into line after I finished my cone. Then she admitted that she had done the same thing. Mitchells is so good you wonder why they havent expanded and dominated the world ice cream market. But its probably just because they like being the best kept secret in San Francisco. Pros: Great Ice Cream Cons: really busy more

Superb Ice Cream 2/18/2006

Mexican chocolate with chocolate dip in a waffle cone is the best ice cream dish I have ever eaten. Pros: great food, chocolate dip, waffle cones Cons: cramped, tricky number system, no seating more

Ice cream? But it's raining ! 6/6/2005

I have been going to Mitchell all my life - always exploring their new flavors they come up with. It is the ONLY Ice Cream shop that even in the RAIN there is a line out the door. After all these years, they still make a high quality ice cream. I have turned some may people on to Mitchells over the years and my cousin that lives in Japan now makes her first stop Mitchells and then she knows she is home! Pros: Parking, Great Product, Friendly Service more

Incredible Ice Cream, one you get to it 5/21/2005

This ice cream is good, really really good. I love the baby coconut and the chocolate. There are lots of flavors to choose from, including the old standbys, as well as several fruit flavors which put this place on the map. The trouble is, its almost off the map: not centrally located, and there are no other branches. It's worth the trek, if you know where you are going. Probably the best ice cream I've had in SF. Pros: Excellent Ice Cream Cons: Not centrally located more

Very Disapponted 3/12/2005

I lie the fact that they offer some unusual and creative flavors, but they just don't taste very good. more

Wonderful flavor... 6/12/2004

I am a food connoisseur and one thing that stands out in Mitchell's ice cream is the flavor definition. I've tried comparing it side-by-side with other brands of ice cream around town and this is hands down the best ice cream in town. You will have to taste ice cream from Berthillon in Paris to see what I mean... Pros: Local, Open late, Parking lot Cons: , Mediocre service, Cash only more

No doubt is the best ice cream... 10/2/2003

My husband turned me on to Mitchell's Ice Cream about ten years ago. Since then I would REQUEST the Mocha Almond Fudge ice cream pie as my birthday cake. My favorite - Mocha Almond Fudge and Toasted Almond on a waffle cone with chocolate dipped. (forget about the diet today...yummy!) Pros: Fast service Cons: Long line , inconsistent portion, average price more

Worth the wait! 6/17/2003

My hubby and I went to Mitchell's for the first time last night. WOW!! Although we weren't prepared for the 30 minute wait, we found that it was worth our while. The ice cream was so smooth, creamy, and luscious! I had a chocolate chip scoop and hubby had a strawberry shake. Both were marvelous! My only complaint would be that for the high volume of customers they service, they really should expand their operations. The wait was pretty long. Pros: Incredible ice cream, Interesting flavors, Small parking lot Cons: LONG wait, Lot usually full more

YUUUUMMMM!!!! 1/10/2003

You don't know about Mitchell's? It's FAMOUS!! :) We love goin to Mitchell's! We even got a pumpkin ice cream pie for Thanksgiving last year. Their ice cream is delicious, and it's soo fun to go for a cone cuz everyone is in line happy and drooling that they're about to get some yummy ice cream! :) Visit Mitchell's and have fun! Pros: yummy!, nice people, supporting local biz more

Mitchell's is the BEST! 1/8/2003

I've been a customer of Mitchell's for years, so I can tell you that ""kiki 94110"" and ""mangofruitcake"" don't know what they're talking about. Mitchell's has been making their own ice cream for 50 years, and the quality has always been excellent. Since Mr. Mitchell still owns & runs the place, it hasn't changed much over the years. They wouldn't continue to have so many customers if it wasn't good! Try the Mocha Fudge and Kahlua. They're great! Pros: great quality, parking lot, friendly service Cons: no seating, big crowds more

Quality has lowered considerably! 12/8/2002

Go to Joe's. At least he makes his own ice cream. Mitchell's is an overhyped SF crony landmark with no redeeming qualities except that it's in the Mission. more

Overrated and not even homemade 12/1/2002

Their flavours are overhyped. Agreed, they are a neighbourhood joint. But there are plenty of other mom & pop ice cream shops in the city that have better quality, better service, and better value that what you get at mitchell's... What is the hype, anyway? Service has no real heart to it anyway, and the audience is just a group of people who have jumped on the Mitchell's bandwagon. Pros: parking lot Cons: expensive/not a value, service, blah more

mmm good to the last. . . 10/28/2002

I've grown up with Mitchell's Ice Cream and they make the best in the west! Cons: Too many choices! more

delicious treats 10/21/2002

Macapuno, mango, pumpkin, ginger...these are just SOME of thier wonderful ice cream flavors. The butterfat content must be astronomical because it all tastes so darn good. more

fab flavors, so-so quality 10/16/2002

grrreat choice of flavors lively crowd quality...well: it's not gelato!! commercial-American texture better on the concept than on actual flavor Pros: number of choices, unusual flavors, lively atmosphere Cons: so-so taste, commerical quality more

Sum man ol' ice cream 9/30/2002

I have been going to Michells ice cream every saturday for about 3 years now, and it is definetly the best ice cream I have ever tried, for me the best flavor is rum raisin, but the tropical flavors a incredible as well. It's great to have such great ice cream in such a great city. Pros: Great flavors, Good service, freindly employees Cons: Should be bigger, w/ seating more
