I went because someone had mentioned they had cheese grits. Well I didn't do the grits. I had hush puppies (big ole boys), a bowl (again hugh) of gumbo,collard greens (with port of course) and a cornbread muffin. The food was really really good. The greens were served in a medium size bowl that was overflowing. The gumbo, chicken, sausage, and shrimp, was served with rice. The hush puppies, well, were just good. Took home half of the gumbo and 3 pups. Also got a couple of muffins as well. As for the price, well, all for under $20....not to bad. Oh, one last thing. The sweet tea was good also and was served in a big ole glass. Recommend this place. Pros: Good food Cons: Too much food more

Comfort Food at its Best 2/3/2009

I adore this place. Having lived in New Orleans, I can honestly say the food is as close to authentic as I've tasted in Portland. When I'm craving southern cooking, that's where I go. Great gumbo and the ambience is just lovely. It's often busy when I go, but the service is always great, and I usually end up taking an order of something with me to share with whomever couldn't join our group that time. Comfort Food at its Best 2/3/2009

I adore this place. Having lived in New Orleans, I can honestly say the food is as close to authentic as I've tasted in Portland. When I'm craving southern cooking, that's where I go. Great gumbo and the ambience is just lovely. It's often busy when I go, but the service is always great, and I usually end up taking an order of something with me to share with whomever couldn't join our group that time. I'd heard about this place, and the former Delta Cafe, and had high expectations. This was a new culinary experience: how do you know what your next favorite thing will be until you try it? The owner waited on us and was obviously invested in us (and everyone else) loving her comfort food, feeling at home. -Very attentive to us and to detail! The gumbo with a side of black eyed peas and rice was rich and I don't usually like cornbread, but this was different... and great. Drinks were amazing. The music enhanced the atmosphere. Definitely a new standard for attentive customer service, -and they were packed with a wait list! Can't wait to go again! more

Southern done right 8/12/2008

I had a great experience at Miss Delta. Being from NC, I am always interested in checking out what most places consider "southern" cuisine. At Miss Delta I certainly wasn't disappointed. Although not exactly authentic, Miss Delta offered great atmosphere, good service, and southern food done right. I especially enjoyed the hush puppies, which were buttery and flaky without being soaked in grease or thick and mealy. I definitely plan on heading down south again soon. more

burnt, bitter, and wrong 8/9/2008

I've had blacked catfish hundreds of times but this little number tasted like the crumb tray on the bottom of a toaster oven: the fish had no flavor. The greens were overly cooked and bitter. All of this on a money making friday night? wow good luck Miss Delta - think it might be time to look into a cook(s) who cares - the punk rock buringman duo I saw back there appear to have there mind on other things than food. \r \r I was looking forward to my night out - ended up spending the night with a horrible stomach ache. mac n cheese. hush puppies. this place was great! Its been at least 5 months since I've been in my one and only time.... but that time was great. It was a busy night... my friends bday... and they let us hang out at a bar across the street while we waited for a table, and they came and got us when a table was ready!! our server rocked... she was just very personable and honest about what food she thought was best. i can't wait to make it back to this joint!! This is real canjun cooking! 4/3/2008

The menu was limited but the 4 of us all order different sides and entrees. The best of them were: the chicken, the ribs, the shrimp creole, and the fried okra. Each had the full flavor of canjun cooking. The disappointments: the black eyed peas were flavorless and the pecan pie had too much sugar not enough pecans.\r \r The service was great and the atmosphere had a quiet buzz to it the night we were there(Wed.) more

Great Food, Drinks, Reasonable Prices 1/24/2008

Wow! what a great meal. The caesar salad was one of the best we've ever had. TThere were a lot of pan fried oysters for $10, and they were done to perfection. The creole was spicy, but not overbearing, with tomatoes done just to the right point, not cooked to mush. The drink menu was extensive and the waitress' had great suggestions. It was late tonight, so they were out of a couple of the main dishes, but there was enough of a selection that it was no problem finding something good to eat. Service was quick and efficient. Dinner for two with hard drinks at $50 is usually not something to be had. I would highly recommend this place to anyone, any time. I know we will return again--soon. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner last weekend, and all I can say is, wow. Parking was a nightmare, but that?s what happens anywhere on N. Mississippi on a Sat night. The food and drinks however, were amazing. We had a couple of drinks, which were good sized and delicious. I had the fried chicken, which the menu says takes about 20 minutes. It was worth every minute. The chicken was divine, moist on the inside, perfect crunch on the outside and not greasy at all. My boyfriend had the meatloaf, which again was perfection. Sides were all great, from the Coliflour bake, to the mac & cheese, to collard greens. The music and ambiance was wonderful throughout. Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough. I?ll be back next weekend with some friends to see if it?s a repeat experience. Pros: Food, drinks, atmosphere, service Cons: Parking more

We love Pasta Bangs. The seafood linguine and hazelnut pesto penne are great, and the Caesar salad is fantastic. The owner, Polly, has been our waiter both times we visited and she mixes a solid cocktail. We'll be back! Pros: Cozy atmosphere, fresh pasta more
