I hadn't looked at the reviews before 2/2/2012

I hadn't looked at the reviews before going in to miss delta for breakfast/brunch on Sunday... and I am glad that I didn't as it may have deterred me!! I was with a party of six. We were seated quickly, brought water and offered coffee immediately. We all ordered something different and most of us had ""special requests"" - which our waitress was very sweet about. Our food took a bit of time but nothing crazy or terrible... it seemed about average to me. And EVERYONE was super happy with their order. The portions are LARGE so it would be easy to share things. But everything was pretty great. I would definitely go back and even recommend it. Gravy is right across the street - but at miss delta the wait was shorter, the portions were bigger, the price is about the same, and the food was great :) more

Out of Everything 9/17/2011

I went for the fried chicken - out of white meat. They had frog legs on the board when I entered the restaurant - all gone. They were out of a beer on the menu I wanted and to top it of they were out of a desert on the menu my wife wanted. Service was bad - under staffed - but the food was good. Overall I'll give it another shot. I went a 7pm on Friday - next time 6pm. more

True Southern Hospitality ..."NOT" 3/4/2011

Ok, I am always a second chance stop in at any restaurant unless the food is so bad I cant stomach it. Yet, this place takes the cake on RUDE, RUDE servers. If you want to be treated like a person of color in the south 30 years ago this would be the place to stop in. I was seated with my children (bi-racial) at the same time with a Caucasian man and his son w/ grandchild at their six top. We agreed at the door to share the table because it was so packed. We ordered at the same time yet their food arrived before ours in fact we didn't get our food until they were done! I was shocked when the waitress turned it on us for ordering something that takes a long time. Funny thing is we didn't order anything but fried food and a burger. No fried chicken that takes 20 min extra or special orders. The quick fast stuff. But that is only visit number 1. Tonight we went again for it was happy hour so prices are cheap and I figured I would give them another chance. So we are seated and tell the waitress, one sweet tea, one sweet bourbon tea two sodas. We get our drinks and they are not sweet. I said excuse me this isn't sweet, The waitress said well honey you have to tell me you want sweet tea in a snotty manor! Well folks that did it, in fact she didn't even offer to bring us new drinks she said well i guess i can bring you some sugar! Are you kidding me. Why not ask us to go get our plates from the back door like they did before the civil rights! Take your chances... PS BBQ sauce is to smoky ..add some honey and a little more garlic. more

Great Food & Atmosphere 11/4/2010

We stumbled on this place and were very happy with our first experience. Service was attentive and professional. I had a Bloody Mary that was had more veggie than Farmers Market.... and it tasted great. We started with Fried Okra.... tasted like homemade, breading flaked off just like mom's and they don't throw out the end pieces! I had jambalaya.... it was VERY spicy, but OF COURSE IT WAS! Excellent. My partner had catfish, greens and black eyed peas... and a side of hush puppies..... all were EXCELLENT. The atmosphere is relaxing and fun. Maybe we got lucky on immediate seating, fast service and great drinks and food..... so, we'll go back again soon.... can't wait! more

Left hungry... 8/21/2010

So sad to have gotten the short end of the stick here. After reading all the positive reviews I was actually excited to try their food. When I arrived with my party (it was 4 of us total) we were told that they didn't have room for such a big group and that we could either wait 20 mins or sit at separate tables. Seeing as how we arrived together we decided to wait. After about half an hour we kindly asked if our table was ready yet...only to be told that they had given it away to someone who had just walked in, but that they were cleaning up another table and it was in the "better" part of the restaurant. (versus the not so good side we would be seated at originally???) Again another half hour went by and yet again we asked if our table was ready. Only to be told that there was no other table and that the person that told is that was just "covering their a$$ since they f*cked up" By that time my excitement level is going down and I begin to realize that the negative comments are true and not just overreactions. more

Worth giving it a try 7/18/2010

Had been a bit unsure about going after reading all the negative comments so decided to call and speak with the manager to get their perspective on why so many negative reviews. She was very forthright in taking responsibility for their staff not communicating what was going on as well as their not being prepared for the onslaught of customers from a promotional coupon. She explained that they had made changes to lessen problems in the future. My dining experience on July 17 was extremely satisfactory. The service was excellent and the food came in a timely manner. Based on how much I enjoyed myself I wouldn't hesitate to go back again Pros: Cool atmosphere; attentive staff; good food more

All I ask for is honesty 7/1/2010

Busy! Usually a good sign. 20min to be seated they said, 30 it was, ok. Another 20 to get our order in o.k. But now its getting late so when I ask how long are dinners taking, the smiling waitress said, ""15-20min unless you order the fried chicken, that's taking longer. About 25-30 min"", so fine, my 4 friends and I place our order, avoiding the chicken of course. 45 min later we are ready to go having not been given our food or an update on our food's progress, all I can think of is I've got to get up at 4 am to go to work the next day. I did ask how long it would take to get our dinner, remember! I would have been fine with a simple appetizer had I known the wait would be so long , but no 15 to 20min was the smiling waitress' reply. Her smile and attitiude changed when I said we had to go. We eventually got our incomplete order to go in 1 large bag tied together like we all lived together. Having separated it, we tried to explain why we were unhappy and the not-so-smiling waitress blamed groupon and a large call in order that was recieved before our order was put in. Hmph! What ever! Not my fault. Just came for dinner. \r I ate my flat iron steak while driving home ,yes, with my fingers and I must say it was cold but potentialy good at one time.\r Maybe when the owner learns to staff properly he'll have a better chance with return bussiness. Pros: hummm Cons: over worked, under staffed more

NEVER GO HERE!! 7/1/2010

We were at this restaurant for almost 2hrs and all we got "served" was water and the two drinks from the bar friends ordered. We were quoted 10-15 min for food to be to our table....45min later we were ready to walk out. Our stomachs growling for having sat at their establishment almost 2hrs just to get food we decide were done waiting. We ask our server how long our food will take because we can't wait any longer, she scoffs at us and very angrily heads twords the kitchen to check. From there on out it got severly worse. She came back with a very snotty attitude and stated our food was "on it's way out now" so we ask the kitchen to box it up to go. She passes on our request with spite and ignores us for the next 10-15min while they box our food that was supposedly "ready". Any question presented to her in that time was either ignored or answered in a very snotty tone. We finally get our food...we state again that were unsatisfied and her reply is "everything is make to order so food does tend to take a long time" contrary to her earlier statement. We present our groupon and she proceeds to blame their shotty service on being overwhelmed since the occurance of the groupon(a weak EXCUSE at best). No tip was given or even deserved. I would suggest selling your groupon if you have one..it seems to inspire even worse service then normal. Pros: NONE-WISH I COULD GIVE NO STARS!! Cons: TERRIBLE SERVICE, BLAND FOOD more

Super Salty 2/16/2010

Being from the South and new to Portland, my husband and I are on a mission to try every "Southern" place in town. Miss Delta's was our 3rd stop. All of their fried batter was WAY TOO SALTY (fried okra, shrimp, oysters). By the time we left the restaurant, I felt like I had eaten a salt lick for dinner. Most of the food was not very hot and in fact, when my husband asked to try a spoonful of gumbo the owner replied, "let me see if the chef can warm you up some", which led us to believe that it is not made fresh. Most of their dinner entrees were bland tasting. The fried catfish and hushpuppies were ok and the piece of cornbread was burnt. This is not a place I would take my Southern relatives to next time their in town! Pros: Quaint Cons: Salty, bland more

Hungry? Go here 8/21/2009

I went because someone had mentioned they had cheese grits. Well I didn't do the grits. I had hush puppies (big ole boys), a bowl (again hugh) of gumbo, collard greens (with port of course) and a cornbread muffin. The food was really really good. The greens were served in a medium size bowl that was overflowing. The gumbo, chicken, sausage, and shrimp, was served with rice. The hush puppies, well, were just good. Took home half of the gumbo and 3 pups. Also got a couple of muffins as well. As for the price, well, all for under $20....not to bad. Oh, one last thing. The sweet tea was good also and was served in a big ole glass. Recommend this place. Pros: Good food Cons: Too much food more
