Marie attended, approves and recommends 2/28/2011

I attended the school in December of 2004. I remember being very nervous until I met Sandy, the owner. Sandy assured me that if grooming wasn't for me then, they would help me and talk to me about it and come up with a plan. She said "Let's not worry about that now. We'll ease ya into it and go from there" They eased me in to it, started me off slow and once I proved to them that I could complete the tasks efficiently, I was given a harder task to complete. Sure enough I picked it up fairly quickly and became really great at it. That is with the help of the two most AMAZING instructors there, Dena and Amber :) It was great hands on schooling and because of attending the school, I now operate my own successful pet grooming business.\r I do know that taking the 600 hour program was the best program. It gave me all the basic information that a groomer needs to know. It also gave me some medical knowledge of what to be aware of with older dogs, skin coats and what is normal for dogs more

2nd Job Choice best Job Choice 2/18/2011

I started my life going to college to become a Vet Assistant, I took all the core classes to get into the Vet Tech Program. While waiting to get into the Vet Tech Program I took the 600 HR grooming program with MSCC (summer of 09). Once I was in the program I knew it was the best career choice I had made for my life. MSCC has a great atmosphere, very clean environment, good location, and the teachers are great. Plus once you finish your program MSCC will help find you a job. They did for me, I got a job at Marie's Bed and Biscuit. Thanks MSCC more

Great school! 2/17/2011

I decided to attend MSCC while helping manage my family?s pet store and grooming salon. We at the time had 4 groomers working for us. One groomer who had been grooming for over 20 years was a self taught groomer, another had gone to a 3 week grooming school through a larger chain of pet stores and the last two had both graduated from MSCC. To be a groomer there is no laws or regulations stating you need to go to a grooming school but it had been made VERY apparent to me, by watching the type of work each of our groomers were putting out that it would definitely be to my benefit to attend some kind of school, and when I found out that not only did one of our best groomers go to school here but two! I knew if I wanted to be as good as they were I would have to attend MSCC. I was able to attend school part time and continue working in our salon as a receptionist, which took me a lot longer than the average student but worked well with my life at the time. I loved my instructors and was more

EXCELLENT INSTUCTORS AND SCHOOL! 2/15/2011

I was a student at MSCC from the end of 2009 through the beginning of 2010. During the five months I was in training, I had the best instructors! Although there were days that I was discouraged, the staff had a wonderful way of encouraging me. Never was I left feeling inadequate or stupid for not understanding a technique or asking to be shown something again. After obtaining my certificate, I opened my own salon in my hometown. After being open for less than a year, I called MSCC looking for a second groomer to add to my salon!\r \r I went into school with no idea how to groom a dog or cat. MSCC started at step one, explaining the equipment and the very basics. As I became comfortable with what I was learning, they taught me me more advanced steps. As a student I was ALWAYS supervised by one or more instructors AT ALL TIMES!\r \r In closing, I had a great experience at MSCC and would recommend it to any person looking to becoming a pet groomer. As a pet owner, I would have no qualms abou more

Better Days Ahead 1/21/2011

I WAS a student there and like many, got ripped off. The students are treated like dirt. I was never treated like a student more like an inexperienced employee. Denied the opportunity to be given different breeds to groom and therefore they didn't have to give me a certificate. Instructors take pleasure watching students flounder without instruction. When asked for help, sometimes treated with discust. It's suppose to be a school not a slave camp. I feel sorry for the dogs because they sense an unhappy place which can make matters worse than necessary. Save your money go to a reputable place. The money isn't cheap but the treatment is. By the way, we didn't get the choice of saying no I don't want my picture on your website. We had to sign releases. How fair is that? more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! 1/19/2011

I was a student here and it was the worst experience of my life. You go to the school and basically pay nearly $7,000 to clean and work for free all to get a certificate that isn't necessary to groom professionally. The instructors are not even Master Groomers. They make you feel like a second class citizen. They send out customers dogs with cuts that they never tell them about. I was put on a probationary period for missing THREE days because I had a kidney infection. The probationary period stated that if for ANY reason I missed ANY days or was late I would forfeit my tuition. I asked and even if I got in an accident on the drive to school that that would make me lose all my tuition. The students who go here get subjected to being treated like they are in jail. The instructors treat you like you are two years old. The director is money hungry and will tell you anything to make you sign her contract and they will not work with you and give you a refund without having to take them to c more

Michigan School-Canine Csmtlgy is a great grooming school! 9/24/2009

i am a past student of the mscc. if u r thinking of going 2 school there i have 2 say it was a great experience, i learned so much. because of the reputation of the school i found a great job right away. the teachers r great at their jobs and helped me on things that i had a hard time with. as 4 taking ur dog there 2 b groomed i think its a great place w/ cheep prices.there is always a teacher w/ the students so a mistake rarely happens. remember accidents do happen where ever u go. they r very careful 2 clean up all the time so there a min. chance that fleas or other critters might b hanging around. out of the entire 4 months i went there i was around fleas a hand full of times when bathing an animal & not once did i end up bringing them home w/ me. students learn how 2 deal w/ any situation (biting, hip problems, virus', cats, fearful animals....). i think it is a great place 2 go 2 school or 2 take ur animals 2 b groomed. more

pros make mistakes also 4/27/2008

I have taken my dog here and to a professional groomer and the professional groomer cut her ear once. I even had my ear cut once when I was getting my hair cut. Never had a bad experience at the school. more

Spend the money and go to a pro! 4/16/2008

I have taken my dogs to the school several times. Usually they come back with a few bald spots and razor burn marks. But this last time, they cut a chunk of my dogs ear. They called to tell me at work, making it sound like it was no big deal. When I picked her up, same thing, I said how bad it looks, and they agreed and suggested that I take her to the vet. They never apologized. I had to have my mother in law take her to the vet, since it was in the middle if the work day. The vet called me at work and said they have to keep my dog and put her under general anesthesia to do a surgery to remove the extra flap of skin that was left, and sew the rest of it back up. I called the groomer to tell them what has happened, and they said that, those things happen when there are mattes in the hair. I said they were no mattes, and you didn't even trim her ears. The manager, or who ever it was, said that she was matted on her neck (which she wasn't). But again no apologies. I will not b more

Definitely Our Favorite Groomer 10/2/2007

We have three dogs and take them for grooming once a month. We have had nothing but the best of experiences with Michigan Canine School of Cosmetology! Yes, it is a school, but we have been able to explain the cuts we prefer for our dogs to the management and have success time after time even though the students change. The staff is kind and loving. They know the boys and inquire after them if one should be missing. If we want to skip a month of full grooming for our short hair fellow, that's fine, they still do his nails. They are careful to point out any issues they see developing, a new lump or anal problem, just in case we haven't noticed. Appointments are set to convenience for morning with a noon time pick-up or afternoon for an early evening pick-up. The prices are great. We wouldn't go elsewhere. We have tried other groomers in years past, but were not nearly as satisfied. more

A Great Place to get a Haircut or an Education 3/30/2006

I have had my dogs groomed here regularly for at least 15 years. Most of the time the haircut is wonderful. This is a school, so on occasion you will get a new student, but the instructors are very competent and assist with the dogs. Rare to have an accident or bad haircut. \r \r There is a very high level of accountability here, which is another great reason for going there. Nothing abusive will ever happen to your pet - there are so many people there you never have to worry that something is being kept secret. (Not always the case at all salons.) To the best of my knowledge they do not cage dry. \r \r If your dog is getting up there in the years, they will provide personalized service. My dog used to push himself right through the door and go to the crate he knew was his. When he got older, they did his grooming on the floor so he didn't have to be up on the table. \r \r Prices are reasonable and the new parking lot is an added plus, so your dog will not get muddy on the way out more

Good Price, But... 11/30/2005

Although you probably wont find a better price in Lansing, at least, for dog grooming you might want to look somewhere else. Part of the problem, I believe, is that you leave your pet with them early in the morning and then pick up your pet later in the afternoon, and without observation and given the fact that they seem to take more pets than they should in one day we have had more than a few problems with them. Problems such as: fleas (our dog came home more than once with those most unwelcome guests), bald spots (Hey look our dog has white skin! Why's it so red, ugh!), and on one special occasion our dog had a small chunk of her ear trimmed along with her hair, and that was it. Your results may vary, to be fair; usually they did an all right enough job (or we wouldnt have taken our dog here repeatedly in the first place), but be warned. more

Excellent value 11/16/2005

This is a great place to go for pet grooming. The price is reasonable and the service is excellent. My dog always comes back looking great and smelling good (we wish we knew what they used...I suppose I could ask). They even put a little kerchief on the dogs...so cute. They are definitely the best value around this area for dog grooming. more
