I recently found a baby kitten, and I took her for a couple of days. She was barely three weeks old, and needed lots of attention and feeding every three hours. I have two adult c...

TERRIBLE PLACE MORE KILLING THAN RESCUING. THEY WILL TRAP INNOCENT ANIMALS AND KILL THEM THE SAME DAY. HAVE THEY EVER BEEN INDEPENDENTLY AUDITED REGARDING THEIR KILLRATE. THEY LIE ABOUT NOT COOKING THE BOOKS BUT DO A BODY COUNT AND LET THE TRUTH COME OUT. MORE AND MORE PEOPLE KNOW WHAT GOES ON IN THIS HORRIBLE PLACE .. THEY SEND THEIR DRIVER OUT WITH TRAPS AND HE SITS AND BAITS ANIMALS TO BE KILLED. HOW MUCH DO THEY MAKE FINANCIALLY TO DO THIS? NO OTHER PLACE BUT THAT HORRIBLE DETROIT ANIMAL CONTROL DOES THIS. MACS NEEDS A BUNCH OF PICKETERS IN FRONT OF THEIR DOORS.\r WOULD NOT GIVE THEM A PENNY FOR THEIR CRUELTY. MORE PEOPLE THAN EVER KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON HERE. JUST CALL IT THE MICHIGAN CRUELTY SOCIETY. more

Their site says they take walk-ins between 10-2. I called yesterday to find out how busy they were. Was told not busy at the moment. I said I would make it there at 1:00. I wasnt able to make it in. I show up today at 12:15 and was told the vet clinic closed at 12. I said thats not what your site shows. Woman said a vet had to go to the hospital. But i could come in the next day. It will be open 9-12. Those are the new hours. A waste of time. The only good thing was the animal hospital they referred which was 10 mins away. Had to wait an hour but it was a better place. Better attitude i should say. more

This organization DOES care about animals 6/1/2011

I have had only positive experiences with the Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society. I've called three or four times in the last three years about what I saw as neglect cases. They visited the homes and the situations were corrected. They may not have the nicest facility, but they certainly do the best with what they have. more

Fast, Quick Adoption 11/23/2010

This organization was a joy to work with! I met and fell in love with my kitty and had papers signed and out the door within an hour and a half.\r \r They called my vet, verified I was taking care of my other cats and I was out the door with my little darling.\r \r I don't understand why some folks are having problems with adoption, but it's much easier to try to adopt when your vet is open and they can call for verification.\r \r My little girl loves her new forever home and I'm thrilled with her! more

this place is NOT animal-friendly 1/15/2010

I've been trying to adopt an animal and the place made it impossible, claiming that they could not find any vet records for my animals they I already have, yet the records I gave them were never verified, even though one of my animals was taken to the vet who works in the same building, next door to them. The reason they gave me was: "I don't know what happened" each time, and, to make up for their incompetence by telling me that I should have been practicing more preventive care for my animals and then the records would be easier to find (because going once a year is wrong, even if your animals are fine). I made numerous phone calls to inquire about the status of our application and each time we talked to someone else. No one knew what was going on and the final comment I heard was that I could go elsewhere. They clearly do not care what happens to the animals, nor are they helpful in trying to find them home. It is common knowledge that they euthanize big numbers of cats and dogs th more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE 6/11/2008

I AGREE! this place is bad... i found a kitten outside who needed a home and i took him in there, this kitten was about the sweetest kitten ever, constantly purring, still very small, only a month old.. i went in this place and they opened the door to the cat room, full of cats, at least 30, and they threw him in there and closed the door. they would not tell me any info on what is to be expected other than he will go to foster care untill adoption. a few weeks later i checked on their petfinder page and saw they had hardly any cats posted, and he was not one of them either. i expected to see tons of cats posted since i saw so many in the cages that day, and i expected to see him for sure since he was so young and purrfull and highly adoptable.. all those cats and kittens are dead..\r i emailed them about it and no reply, i checked the site again and he was never posted. when i brought him in, he had fleas and worms, and was very skinny.. what i think is going on is, if a cat is brought in and needs some basic vet care to be performed before it can be adopted out, this costs them money.. and there will be no profit if they have to spend money to make a cat adoptable.. so i think they desroy all who do not bring in profit, only adopting out animals who are allready adoptable, and not in need of any vet care or medications. \r i have ben rescuing cats on my own for a few years now. there are other shelters out there that dont euthenize, if you have to bring in an animal to surrender.\r but i also think, if you are looking to adopt, please please go save one from this awful place because im sure they only give the ones they are adopting out a week or so to find a home before they too are euthenized.\r oh and btw, about a month later i found that kittens brother and sister living under and ice cream truck.. i took them both into my home and have them still to this day! they are 8 months old and very fat and healthy. so that just goes to show they destroyed a healthy cat... Pros: no pros, but yes, please adopt the cats from them so you can save a life that only gets a few days to find a home before euthinization Cons: they destroy life, healthy animals who just wanted someone to love... more

Michigan Anti-Cruelty Mission to Put Down Your Pet 2/19/2008

It happened to me: Don't let this happen to you!\r \r MACS will destory ALL pitbulls that enter that shelter: no exception. They also destroy adoptable dogs and cats and will not work with rescue groups. Pros: Nothing good about this place. Run by tyrants. Cons: It is all about killling here. more

Big-Time Euthanizing Shelter 2/18/2008

They run the place like a rundown hubble, when they are rich in benefactors and are a million-dollar operation. Big-time killing shelter. Euthanizes rather than work with rescue groups. Are not forthright about policy.\r \r Rating is -1, but system would not allow that. Had to give it one star regretfully. Cons: They are a big-time euthanizing shelter! more
