Best Boutique Roaster in the Midwest 5/28/2005

If you're fed up with the burnt taste of Starbucks and the over-crowded (as well as overrated) Intellegensia, You'll love this true American coffeehouse that brew's up what is rapidly becoming this city's favorite eye-opener beverage --- Metropolis Coffee. Thankful for indie coffee! 5/26/2005

Thank god for independent coffee shops like Metropolis. It is cozy and hip, with new cutting edge art on the walls every month. And they have a lot going on besides the art: live music, open mics, film screenings, and more. A nice change from Starbucks, they use fair trade coffee and roast in house. Jeff and Tony are friendly and social, always around to greet you. They know most of their customers on a first name basis. By the way, I use sugar in my lattes, but this is the first perfectly made latte that I ever enjoyed without sugar! I can't say enough goodness about Metropolis, I love it there! Best Coffee in Town 5/25/2005

There are coffee shops and then there are phenomenal coffee roasters who also have a retail store. Metropolis roasts every bean to perfection and the proof is in every cup of coffee or espresso that they serve. I never fail to go out of my way to stop by and pick up a double espresso that is perfectly drawn and enjoyed from the first smell of the bean to the last drop we can coax out of the cup. If you're only looking for a cup of regular coffee, don't bother with cream or sugar - it is best enjoyed straight up - it's amazing. Tony and Jeff could not have created a better legacy than Metropolis! more

The baristas are hot. I'm not talking cute or hot in a mediocre tepid kind of way, but hot! Oh yeah, and they put pretty little rosettas in your drink, and then you feel special that these hot baristas put this pretty art in your latte. That's what I call service. more

Wow. This place is amazing! Truly the best place for coffee in the city. The owners, Jeff and Tony Dreyfuss, and the rest of the knowledgeable staff make you feel right at home. They have a true passion for what they do and it shows. Definately a place you need to check out! Pros: inexpensive, parking lot, great atmosphere more

Metropolis is off the map; much, much better coffees and espresso than I've had anywhere including Northern Italy, and I'm head roaster for a well known coffee chain from CA. Pros: drip coffees, espresso, friendly more

I loved Metropolis from the moment I walked in last June. It was here that I had my first latte with gorgeous latte art (thanks Bill!). Metropolis has wonderful coffee--no question. The lattes and capps are amazing. The customers are cool. And, now that I work at Metro, I know first hand how much the barista love and respect the beans, their customers, and each other. There are other wonderful coffee shops in Chicago. However, I really think this is the best. Check it out. Pros: best capps in the cit, laid back, off the red line Cons: busy, busy, busy more

Dear coffee lovers, I am an european living in Chicago, and I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about Metropolis!!! It is Hands Down The BEST coffee house with the best coffee! As a coffee drinker for so many years I guess I have gotten used to the overroasted coffees of Starbucks, and the strangely tasting drip coffees I keep buying from the grocery stores because when I tasted the Metropolis coffee for the first time I was blown away by the taste! It was sooo smooth and not bitter at all! Just that wonderful coffee smell and taste that I love! The cafe itself is just so esthetically pleasing that it almost blends in your consciousness. Everything from the special made coffee neon sign to the perfectly picked color of the walls just blends in order to create the athmosphere! METROPOLIS ROCKS! IN SEARCH OF PERFECTION 5/19/2005

I Have recently spent three months on tour in the Pacific, Asia, Europe and North America. Everywhere I travelled I found it hard to find good coffee. Would you believe that Starbucks actually was better than many local products. Its true. And then I arrived to live on Granville St. Down the road is Metropolis and I gave it my one time test - you only get one life with me. Not only did it pass - but with flying colours. I cannot recommend the coffee and the staff for their competence, friendliness and service. The young woman who actually does the brewing is a barrista beyond compare. Great for our Neighborhood! 5/19/2005

The presence of Metropolis Coffee Company is a true improvement to our neighborhood. They plan engaging events, like movie showings and live music. There's always interesting art hanging in the cafe. The owners are wam and genuine, and often walk around to chat with patrons. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Oh yeah, and their coffees and huge selection of teas are outstanding! Best Cafe In City, Hands Down 5/18/2005

This little gem is the best coffee cafe in the city. Not only is the coffee top notch, but the vibe is comfortable with everybody, and I mean everybody, welcomed as a potential or exisiting friend by the owners and the staff. Stop by often enough and they'll call you by name. The seating is comfortable, the music is always choice, and everybody working seems to really care deeply about coffee and teas, and even what you may be reading. The staff is lively and personable with opinions, and a genuine creative vibe among them that doesn't touch on overbearing or false. And a number of the staff boys and girls are cute, cute, cute. Metropolis coffee surpasses other Chicago roasters brew. And, they are happy to accomodate the true espresso aficionados. I like my americano the ""real"" way - EQUAL portions espresso to water - and they GET it. The staff and owners cultivate community; every customer is welcome and greeted with a familiar smile. more

Great coffee, great smells, a plethora of teas, friendly faces, wonderful service, decent prices interesting art, neighborhood outreach, couches, wi-fi, outdoor seating, even parking. Beans are roasted on the premises with a wide variety of options. Doesn't get much better:) more
