Mediterraneo has to be my favorite restaurant on the hill it gives you that feeling of high end Italian place. I went there once for a family dinner I almost didn?t go but I am glad I did because it was the best experience of my life. The food was great, the service amazing. The place is also very nice, clean, and elegant. I always go back if its my birthday, or a family even a small family event. more

Free appetizers after work! 12/9/2011

I love going to Mediterraneo on Friday because I work a half day and ""The Bar"" does free appetizers from 3-5 with the purchase of a cocktail. After a very long week nothing is better than a cocktail and the word free! Sensational! more

great food, not so great service 7/10/2011

Went there for lunch with a co-worker and I must say, the food was outstanding! They have a great lunch special- 3 courses for $15, which is hard to beat especially for the quality of food. However, our waiter was so inattentive and acted as if he had somewhere more important to be the whole time. Not to mention-- he looked as if he came straight out of the cast of Jersey Shore. I'm pretty sure he checked ut his reflection at least 5 times as we were sitting there having our meal. If the restaurant would invest a little more time in picking out their staff- I would have no complaints! more

NO - would not recommend 4/3/2011

I thought it might be a nice lunch in Providence. It was awful. The hostess put me on hold forever for the reservation. The wait staff was horrible. The food was so- so. And they over-charged us on the bill - 4 items. That is just tacky! We called mgt. to let them know - I am a business owner and would want to know. They were very rude. Won't waste my time in such a place again. more

Excellent food, but everything else is sub-par. 7/20/2007

I was monumentally disappointed in Mediterraneo. Entering, I was pleased with Mediterraneo. It's a very pretty restaurant with all the architecture and design I'd expect from a 4-Diamond eatery. We had called ahead for our table and were greeted by a maitre d' who was brusque at best. We were shooed upstairs where we waited around for 5 minutes. The upstairs was cold. I found it acceptable, but my partner was shivering. We were sat and given water. It took them over ten minutes to bring us our bread which was so tough that my partner had to stop halfway through her second piece because her jaw hurt. We were about to order our appetizers when we were informed we must order all at once. I'm unsure of as to why. Another ten minutes pass before our server returns. It's now almost 30 minutes in and we have only bread. Finally, the server returns to take our orders. Our appetizer comes out, mozzarella en carozza. For $9 we got a single piece of glorified fried mozzarella. I've had its equal at places not much better than Olive Garden. Our entrees arrive. My partner's Filetto di Maialo pork loin is truly excellent. At $25, it's a bargain. My ravioli all' aragosta is technically perfect, but is nothing special for $25. Our desserts arrive. My molten lava cake is bad. It's dry, luke-warm, with what could be gelato or ice cream on top. Either way, it's bad gelato/ice cream. The house-made whipped cream is good. My partners gnutella mousse is very good, though. Rich and flavorful, it's a success. But mine was over $10 for bad cake. All the while, an army of seemingly confused servants wander about ignoring us. I was never given water without directly asking. The tables had butchers' paper on them. The windows were dirty. The service was so bad it was stunning. AAA's Four-Diamond means a place of dining nirvana, not this train wreck. If AAA were to review Mediterraneo that night, their award would be stripped away, no questions asked. I expected a lot, and got very little. Pros: Excellent food, views, and house-made Limoncello to conclude. Cons: Service is some of the worst, some of the food is bad, everything is over-priced. more

Sub Par Experience 5/17/2006

We went to Mediterraneo expecting a very nice view, good service and awesome food. The food was delicious but everything else was below average. The waiter was very unattentive and did not even bother to refill our water glasses. The room was noisy and a bit crowded. And the view! There was no view, the restaurant is at street level and the only view is of a Atwells Avenue, not exactly romantic. Overall we were very dissapointed with this place. Pros: italian food Cons: unattentive staff, crowded, no view more

The other reviews are misleading! 5/17/2006

We particularly went to this restaurant because of its reviews. To sum it up Mediterraneo is a far cry from what was expected. The wait staff seemed to have an attitude problem. When we asked the hostess if the upstairs was open, a waiter passing by snapped, ""Upstairs is closed!"" We had to ask for our waters to be refilled and did not get any offers for limoncillos -- did we eat at the right place??? And can someone tell me how this place won best view? The food was decent but not a redeeming factor. Needless to say we won't be giving Mediterraneo a second chance Cons: wait staff more

Wow! 7/30/2005

Mediterraneo is a jewel! The open doors lent a breezy respite for myself and my food saavy mother (a chef) and father. The portions were giant. I noticed a couple sharing a dish- which seemed to be perfectly acceptable, the waiter even served them at the table from the plated dish I ordered what my family calls ""the acid test""- tuna, rare. It was excellent and very fresh. What really set this place apart were the small things, - the flawless service (never having to ask for more water, etc), waiters fold your napkins if you leave the table, the complimentary limoncello at the end of the meal- that really seal the deal. The waitstaff was young but friendly and extremely professional. If you are looking for a wonderful dinner in Prov- go to Med..away from the touristy crowd down the street, the meal and service are worth EVERY penny! Pros: Great waitstaff, authentic Italian, amibiance Cons: slightly expensive more

This place is great. The food is excellent. Very romantic and quiet setting. Great service. The complimentary limoncellos are also very good. Pros: valet parking more

Best Mashed Potatoes of my Life 1/9/2003

I had the same waiter both times I've dined here (6 mths apart). It's kind of comforting, b/c if the waitstaff is happy, then your dining experience is better. Mediterraneo serves the best mashed potatoes ever to grace my palate. I would recommend the antipasto for 2. Great service & attention to detail. On my second trip, we were served complimentary Limoncellos. Pros: valet parking, great service more

great 10/25/2002

Don't judge the restaurant from the outside. My party had Halibut, fillet mignon and pasta. All dishes were delivered ""hot and delicious"". A super meal, worth the price. more

Excellent 9/20/2002

This is my favorite restaurant in Providence, I am never disappointed by the food or the service. The chicken ravioli is to die for. They also make wonderful cosmos. more

Great Food, Good atmosphere 9/19/2002

just okay 8/16/2002

The food delivered did not live up to desciption on menu nor the price. Atmosphere was very nice but the service mediocre. Pros: atmosphere, location Cons: service, price, food more

Awesome! 8/5/2002

Mediterraneo's is the best when it comes to ambience and service. The staff makes you feel right at home and the food is artisticly prepared. Make sure to have a shot of Limoncello to clear the palette before enjoying dessert. more
