Good for lunch, dinner is too loud 1/11/2010

The beer is good. The food is good as is the price. Lunch is good because it is not too crowded. During dinner hours the music is turned up too loud that one cannot carry on a conversation. more

Must try! 1/11/2010

Smells like the oldest!! 1/4/2009

The upstairs smelled like $%#@ and urine!! Waitress was miserable and food was terrible.Spend your hard earned money elsewhere. Pros: If you like bathroom smell ambience Cons: Where's the Guiness and the friendly staff??? more

Love this place! 11/9/2008

I go to McGillin's all the time. They have a great list of regional beers and a friendly atmosphere. There's always something giong on - a party, Eagles game to watch, karaoke. I usually order the tuna melt - but lots of times they have unbelievably low priced specials on pizza, tacos, wings and beer - cheap and they taste good too. I love this place. Pros: beer list, friendly crowd, affordable food Cons: parking more

Avoid on Football Sunday 9/22/2008

Entire place smelled like urine on a Sunday afternoon after the eagles game. Even the smelly alley outside had a better aroma. more

Not all that its hyped up to be 6/24/2008

My friends and I went here for the first time on a Tuesday night because we heard great things about the place....there wasn't anything special about it. Our waitress wasn't friendly or helpful. It took way too long for our food to get to us. My friend ordered malibu bay breezes that tasted like juice. The $0.25 wings came with bleu cheese and celery that was an additional $1 (which we didn't know, they just gave it to us and then charged us) - they weren't that great, I've had better. The staff was not helpful; when we asked for another chair, they said ""Go find one yourself"" and when we trying to, they got all huffy about us standing around. What? Plus its WAY too loud. Unless you were as drunk as everyone else and don't mind screaming to talk and sitting in the dark, by all means go to Mcgillians. We won't be back. Pros: Food was OK, bathrooms were clean Cons: Service, too dark and too loud more

ONE BIG PROBLEM 6/23/2008

CALLED AN IRISH PUB BUT WITH NO GUINNESS ON TAP ? HELP ME TO UNDERSTAND THIS. FERGIES PUB SMALLER BUT GOT THE RIGHT BEER Cons: NO AUTHENTICITY more

Best Bar in Philly 11/5/2006

This is my favorite bar in Center City. It's reasonably priced with great weekly food specials. Their Tuesday $.25 wing special is the best in the city. The crowd is always friendly and ranges from college students to older professionals all wanting to enjoy the $5 pitchers of Bud lite and PBR. The Karaoke regulars are worth watching! Pros: wings, beet pitchers, atmosphere Cons: not enough seating more

If you're over 30... Leave after Happy Hour 10/12/2005

I would ceratinly recommend this bar to a tourist because it is THE oldest tavern in Philadelphia but after you've enjoyed a serene happy hour drink, some cheap eats and chatted with a friendly bartender, I would advise that you seek out a more ""adult"" spot for an authentic philly vibe. By 8 p.m., this tavern is over run with college students swilling $5 pitchers of Miller Lite and So-Co and Lime shooters, while Bon Jovi or Neil Diamond blares from the juke box. The Karaoke nights on Wednesdays & Fridays are too annoying for anyone over 30 to put up with. Pros: draft beer selection, decent pub fare, historic location Cons: college kids, noise level, karaoke nights more

Best place in the city for great food, good friends and great prices -- Anytime. Don't miss the best wings in the city! No Guinness, but I respect the owner for standing his ground! Pros: Best Wings, Inexpensive, Always a good time more

This palce has the best bartender in town. Good music, good food, and good people. I highly recommend it. more

Best Pub In City 9/18/2003

McGillin's is without question the best pub in Philadelphia. Good service, cheap drinks and food, cute waitresses, and a young lively crowd are hallmarks of this little treasure. If you're into the foo foo Old City scene, this may not be your cup of tea - afterall, you're probably accustomed to spending $10 bucks per drink. more

142 years and going strong! 12/13/2002

This is a spot I always take out-of-town visitors for consistently good food and a happy and historic atmosphere. Closed on Sundays, the friendly staff and other patrons makes for a fun visit time and time again! Pros: good dinner specials, historic decor, reasaonably priced Cons: sometimes crowded, no reservation more

Where's The Guinness? 11/30/2002

I love the place but I enjoy 20oz pint of Guinness once in awhile. They do not serve the world's most famous stout due to a silly dispute with the Guinness Import Company and the owner. Can't we all just get along? more

can't go wrong 8/29/2002

McGillin's is a classic old pub that I never get tired of. You can find a decent and mixed crowd almost any night of the week. I don't eat there too often but I've been pleasantly surprised each time. Solid turkey burgers and wings. Once had a great beef stir fry special. The bartenders and waitresses are nice and easy to get to know. They have the standard brews w/ a few extras. For an all around great bar McGillins gets my vote. more

central in center city 8/7/2002

The atmosphere alone makes this bar great! The barkeeps are friendly, there is a better class of patrons that show up, and it is reasonable. Pros: reasonably priced, good size, better crowd Cons: hard to find more
